I know the damage is already done with the ascended crafting materials and raising the crafting level cap, but I feel like ascended armor should be a reward from a questline.
Expand further on the background story of ascension and how it relates to fractals. This is the perfect opportunity to give what most GW1 players want to see, a return of familiar lore and possibly enemies.

Ritter, I agree wholeheartedly. And hopefully Anet will also introduce another method (karma, tokens, ect …) of obtaining Ascended Weapons as well.
While I don’t care if one of the methods of obtaining Ascended Armor is through crafting (like the weapons), I would really love to see OTHER methods of acquisition existing from their very inception. A reward from the quest line is an excellent idea, as would be a dungeon where tokens exist for their acquisition. And for the non-dungeon runners, Karma would make an excellent currency for Ascended armor (in the same way Laurels are for trinkets).
Essentially, when it comes to Ascended “anything”, the more methods of acquisition the better. The damage has already been done with Ascended, and they are not turning back – okay, so be it. But it would be nice if they lessen the pain (grind) of obtaining it by expanding the methods of acquisition.

Seriously, crafting professions will simply go up to 500 and than you need endless materials to craft items that are account bound…

I don’t mind crafting it. Some people like crafting after all, although I’m not huge on it.
Still, I think we should have other ways of obtaining it as well, just as we do with exotics. Like I’ve said in other threads, just make it more expensive, and let it remain account bound on acquire via these other methods. Gives a variety of player types various avenues to obtain the same thing. Should make people happier…

Oh there’s no need to “wonder” about it – you can bet your life they will. The Vertical progression will go on (and on and on and on ….)
BUT —- let’s try and take things one at a time. Ascended armor are next up —- so let’s try and address that for now.
You know, don’t kill the messenger but I’m pretty sure they already announced that they would be crafted. They’re definitely upping the crafts all to level 500, which you kind of would assume means the armor crafts would craft ascended armor at 500 just like the weapon crafts did. I think the only real question was if they’d use the same ascended materials for precursor crafting as they do for the ascended weapons and armor.

Crafting unfortunately isn’t going away — at least make it so that we only have to click one button to get it over with because the act of crafting (refining, making item parts, discovery) is NOT FUN AT ALL.
I’d rather finish an epic quest-line where skill is actually required to get a piece of the armor-set, instead of grinding all day. Why doesn’t ANET want us to feel accomplishment for doing quests? No wonder I don’t feel connected to the game-world. No decent quests, no interesting lore, no immersion. It just boggles my mind. Seriously, it’s getting old.

I’m basically ok with crafting asc armor, but please, please, don’t just copy how it works for weapons.
Because then, heavy armor user will be totally screwed. Iron and platinum ore is already bloody expensive now after asc weapons were included. If asc armor introduces another sink, it’ll be gg. Medium and light armor user will also be screwed, because their raw materials can’t be guaranteed to be harvested, they are only available from RNG drops that you salvage.
Either come up with a different idea for how asc armor crafting works, OR double harvesting yields for ore and either increase drops for lower level cloth, or add harvesting nodes for them.
Oh And change the harvesting banner to increase chance for additional yield, not chance for rare yields. I’ll die happy if I never see another trove.

Nobody thus far has said anything about removing the ability to craft ascended weapons and armor, all anyone has done is request that there be additional methods of obtaining them, as ANet promised there would be in the first place.
You and others who enjoy crafting can gain them the way you wish, those of us who do not enjoy crafting can gain them some way we enjoy.

I agree that would be a horrendous grind fest even worse then the legendaries I’d imagine.
I’d also make it a point to make them not wearable in WvW that way WvW can stay an even keel situation (or as close to one as we have atm) so people won’t have an unfair advantage just because they had more precursor gold or enormous amounts of time to complete the grind before others. Ascended was supposed to be simply for Fractals how about making it stay that way as far as armor and accessories go.
That’s how I’d feel more at ease about the situation with ascended.
To be honest, I would rather craft Ascended Armour than do a quest chain. I don’t mind crafting in GW2 I just wish it didn’t require so many materials per item. It was more enjoyable when 2 logs/ore refined into a log/bar. I understand the resources per refined was increased to clear stock but those of us that spend all of our time in WvW didn’t really have a massive stock in the first place.

You can’t be serious. These drops are in the thousands of a percent area, and are soulbound. You could do every boss that drops ascended weapons every day for several years and the odds are you still would not have one, and the odds are even lower of getting the one you want.
Well if you look at your bank slots you will notice T7 materials (currently not available) assigned for (presumably) crafting ascended armours.
So I would be very surprise if ascended armours are not craftable. What is not know is if Anet is going to make them more available through drops/tokens than ascended weapons.
Putting them in fractals will be nice since I haven’t played fractals for a while.
I dunno about you guys but i’ve always noticed that the mats around the game are really scarce, like i looked at some maps online and i can’t even find half the nodes in-game that it displays, nerfed or smth?
I just find it easier AND cheaper to go kill some champs, then buy the mats off the TP. To me that doesn’t really involve me in the crafting experience, it just feels like i’m purchasing my items rather than actually crafting them. I wouldn’t mind running around the beautiful world of GW2 gathering mats if there was actually more than a handful to gather. Don’t even start with T6 nodes :P

When the ascended rings first came out, there was only one way to get them (people who dove into the Fractals past level ten), and the same complaining that “We shouldn’t have to do [x]” was prevalent then. Eventually other ways to get those same items were introduced.
I suspect Arena.net wanted to show crafting professions a little love, and threw them a bone by giving them first shot at these ascended items, and eventually, there will be other ways to acquire said armor and weapons.

A problem of vocabulary apparently… you don’t know what ‘availability’ means do you? Is it available for customers to obtain as they wish? Do you see any businesses saying they have items available, then refuse every method of purchasing them which is available to their customers? No, you don’t, because then the item isn’t available to them.

I agree OP, the GW1 player base that came to GW2 on the promise of no grind, no tread mill, horizontal progression, etc., got the old bait and switch. Sadly this isn’t the same ORIGINAL developer group that created GW1, they just took the name, location names, skill names, and threw that against a totally different game in almost every aspect. So different they decided gear tread mill and only verticle progression would lure in the WoW crowd. Well it didn’t and will never.
This game is now totally based in power creep and grind.
As much as I hate crafting ( i HATE IT – i cannot stress this enough ) it is clear which way Anet has decided to go with the armor.
They’ve introduced the craft for weapons – added new materials – they can’t back down and switch it around.
For better ( ha!) or worse ( which is the case here ) ascended armor will be a craftable endeavor which we will be forced to suffer through many times over.
The biggest disappointment is that the armor itself ( especially heavy) looks terrible.
You’re literally going through ALL that effort ( of crafting and gathering) just for stats. JUST STATS.
I was at least hoping for some decent skin. But No.
Remember the transformation stones for 6 pieces of ascended armor as well. You don’t want your nice new armor piece to look totally mismatched with the rest of your gear.
To be honest, I’d rather go through content as frustrating as Liadri for a single piece of armor rather than craft my way through. At least with Liadri, there’s an element of skill rather than money.
let them craft ascended armor, but also let the armor be obtainable from killing champions, or dungeon loots.
Ascended stuff should not be only for high level fotm. I know some people think they are elite because they can get to lvl 50 , but really the difficulty to fotm is similar to the Liadri fight.
My problem with the ascended weapons has been that the grind to acquire the materials is just not any fun. There are so many fun aspects to the game that they could tie ori and ancient wood to but they force us to do repetitive and mind numbing activities to get these materials. Love the combat, dungeons, WvW, lore, etc. Hate the crafting grind which I feel is necessary to stay competitive in WvW.
Please do something to make this FUN instead of a CHORE that makes me want to resub to WoW. The carrot chasing in WoW is more fun than this endless quest for materials although the combat is dull.
You can also get ascended weapons from champ boxes or teq. They’ll hopefully add in ascended armor into the boxes and later on have another revamped boss that has a chance to drop ascended armor.
The chances seem like they are about the same as getting a precursor in the forge though…
I just wish they would stop with all this account bound rubbish, and make ascended stuff tradeable on the TP….and remove the stupid time gating on crafting, it serves absolutely NO useful purpose other than to stick two fingers up at the playerbase.
Ascended gear should be available from multiple sources – dungeons, temples (although karma is now so nerfed that trying to gather it for ONE piece of armor takes forever if you’re playing wvw and even in a champ train it onyl trickles in), epic quest chains that can be done solo (but scale so if you want group fun, then take a group of 5), even fractals (if you really must include it…). Even random mob/person kills should have a chance at a drop.
If it’s a complete grind then alts become unviable or just way too tedious to gear up to be competitive – after gathering everything I needed for ONE ascended weapon I pretty much took one look at all that effort and thought: 20+ more times? nah, forget it, I’ll just hang on until some other game grabs my attention.
Multiply that by the number of level 80 exotic geared alts I have that I use in wvw (although ranks has cut this down already to 3 or 4 mains) that I will have to craft armor for and it all feels more like a job than a game.
And there really should be some way of achieving a legendary weapon other than the current grind fest, which makes a nice story and rewards you the weapon of your choice at the end of it – sort of like finishing the personal story questline but with a series of quests added on, solving problems around the world so that you become ‘famous’ and eventually are rewarded a legendary at the end of it (account bound- yes, this would make sense to be account bound).

I already stuffed my bank with mats for armor crafting and now you tell ’em not to make it craftable? Srsly man.
I would like them to have several different ways to obtain ascended armour, sure crafting can be one of them, but make sure there are other ways as well…because a lot of people don’t like crafting. A lot find it tedious and boring…
Really, I would be happy if they allowed the crafters of ascended to sell it on the Trading Post…probably not going to happen however as we would then obtain the gear way too fast.
Any method besides random drop of ascended needs to include dragonite, bloodstone and empyreal. Those are what makes ascended something you earn via gameplay. They also need to make the other pieces require as much effort or more as earning 10 to 12 times 4 gold (cost of the buyable crafting mats) + an ori imbued inscription.
That said, I do feel ascended was introduced rather mechanically, with no lore or place in the world. Yes they must consider the economics, but also the rpg element.
Well they made tequatl tougher, and they’ll buff up other bosses aswell, and he has a small chance to drop ascended weapons, so I’m sure they’ll have plans to make armour obtainable from other sources.
Though I don’t mind ascended items playing hard to get, exotic gear has become ridiculously easy to obtain.
And WvW isn’t ballanced stat wise now anyway, what with food buffs and bloodlust.

It’s a wonderful idea to make ascended gear acquirable through quests. But it requires much more work to implement it that way, when compared to crafting. So, unfortunately, it looks like we’re stuck with this kittening grindfest for good now.
Just implement more acquisition method, crafting is the worst method they could have ever picked. I’d be okay even with mystic toilet to upgrade your exotics to ascended, most people probably transmute their exotics anyway.
My preferences, in order:
If either 2 or 3, reduce or eliminate the repetition involved.
Drops, they should also drop. And no not once in a million drops kinda thing. People hate that, or buying them from dungeon tokens wvw badges, karma(best option).
