Please don't nerf anything else
What do you mean “they got nerfed in half”? You mean they only require 250 points now? Ah so you’re annoyed that you spent all your hero points on the elite spec then the cost was reduced so you decided to create a topic to complain about it? The thing is a lot of people really wanted to play the spec however they did not have the hours or the effort/will to go explore every hero point to earn the spec so this reduction to 250 hero points is completely justified and has no negative effects or down sides. No one is harmed, people are happy and get to play/try their new specs. Please show me where the negativity in that change is.
Some people that wanted bragging rights about being the first to have the herald, etc. are now apparently upset…
Don’t understand it but there it is.

So you guys can create threads demanding change to content that isn’t even needed to be change, but I can’t request that they don’t do the same to everything else?
Right.
And I’m not happy. I know a bunch of other people in my guild were upset by this change.
What happens when Elite Specs come out next time? Do they keep it the same so we all have our Elite Specs hour 1? Or will they increase the HP needed that time, making this happen again.
The vocal minority always get to speak for the rest of us. Many of us wanted things to be unchanged.
We are not required to be silent about changes that we don’t like as well. Just as you guys complain about it 24/7 on the forums
Spending less time preparing to have fun is now a bad thing, somehow.

Playing the game is somehow not playing the game then?

Yeah but why are you complaining? It makes no sense. The only reason you are complaining is because people don’t have to spend as long earning part of their class. And that makes you sad because you spent all those hours so you could say to other players you already have it and rub it in their faces. If this isn’t the reason then what is the reason?
Vocal minority? Ha ha ha ha ha! The people wanting this change are the vast majority, pal.
Do people honestly forget that this MMO was designed to be casual at the start and that’s what most of its players like things to be?
I didn’t buy this MMO looking for a challenge, I bought it as a fun romp open world game. I have WoW and FFXIV for challenging PVE.
Look on the bright side, when future Elites come you will have some points already to use towards it. Those players who only grab enough HP for the current Elites will then have to grab the rest or possibly go for any new ones with any future Elites/expansions.
Bragging rights and such, people who play this game for that type of thing are playing the wrong game imo. This is not “one of those” type of games It’s about time certain players accepted this. :P
I don’t agree with you, OP. I want my legendaries the moment I buy and log into the game. All of them. I also want to have 999,999 gold on every character. Why bother grinding all that stuff? This isn’t Grind Wars 2… Just give that to us ANET.

It’s not the reason. I enjoyed the kitten work. I enjoyed getting it.
I’m sad to see it not be that way. I guess anyone enjoying a part of a game and sad to see it get nerfed for others that can’t take an hour to get all the HPs in a map just want to rub it in others faces?
No. It was a thing I greatly enjoyed and now it got nerfed.
It wasn’t even that hard. You just went around with a few people and did champions. It was fun.
But I guess my opinion on what I find fun in the game isn’t valid.

Granted, many will probably not get the rest of the HPs needed like you said.
But what happens in the future? Do those of us that unlocked this one get it basically hour one? Will they increase the HP needed for them? In turn, creating another fiasco like this?

Vast majority was probably happy/okay with the change but didn’t care if it didn’t happen. Example: My guild and I who didn’t mind grinding all those points, but was still happy when it got nerfed.
The vocal minority are the people who whined about it and threatened to quit on the forums without even playing enough to unlock those points and have no clue what is next.

There is nothing stopping you from not playing an elite spekittenil you have earned 400HP.
And no one is stopping you from expressing your opinion. You brought it to a public forum and people expressed countering opinions.

A countering opinion is not essentially telling someone their opinion isn’t valid
And there was nothing stopping you from just playing it like it was intended. But…you didn’t :o

I have a feeling those that have the extra HP left over from this batch may have about 50% of what’s needed for any future Elites. That’s kind of what we have now right? Well what we had if you had done world complete and were just about to start the HOT maps.
Sounds fair enough to me.

Yeah that’s how it was when the expac launched.
Though having full map completion and HoT HPs completed will give you more than enough for next expacs in that case

It’s true though. If they complain about 10 hours of grind for those hero points, how long before they complain about not having a ascended item within the 3rd week of playing?? How long before they start complaining about not having a legendary precursor for 20 pristine fractal relics?
I mean seriously, complaining about those hero points are like buying the game and saying “hmm why am I not lvl 80 yet? it’s been a good 12 seconds.”
Sad reality is that if ANET does cater to every whim of the vocal minority, the game might really get nerfed a whole lot more.

If all one has are slippery slope arguments its a pretty solid indication that one’s position might be on shaky ground.
People have complained about not having ascended immediately since its inception. People have complained about the difficulty of getting precursors since launch.
Etc.
Its been over three years….hasn’t happened yet.
This isn’t really about catering to casuals, anyway. This is about being able to play the new maps with the new specs.
Besides, ascended crafting has been around for a long time. If they were going to make ascended gear doable in 3 days, they’d have done it by now. Ditto for legendaries.
If you had fun doing them then you lost nothing.
I agree that the system was okay on the PVE-only side, but not at all on the WvW-only side, this is a positive change for them.
Spending less time preparing to have fun is now a bad thing, somehow.
Playing the game is somehow not playing the game then?
I’ve done ‘gain a hero point’ well over a thousand times already in vanilla. There is nothing interesting about these ‘new’ ones.

I don’t agree here simply because people always knew that legendary and even ascended items would take a lot of time and effort. This was never misrepresented by Anet at all.
However when you look at new Elites which are sort of a watered down version of new classes of course people would expect to be able to have access to them right off the bat or with far less work required. There are 2 points that I would say gave this impression to players:
1 – Gw1 players (as well as other games who in time got new classes through exspanions or what not) got to play with new classes straight away with new expansions. Sure they did not have access to all of the skills as some were locked away behind Skill Points or challenges. But the class in general could be played with 100% of the core mechanics in place.
2 – The Betas. See the update notes on this and Anet’s view on it. Basically they never told us the amount of effort that would be required or what not. So it was assumed that with the expansion these would be a main feature to actually be able to play the bulk of the content in HOT with. Not the opposite which actually was – this is the bulk of the content or the reward for doing the bulk of the content.
Summary, another snafu on Anet’s part in communication and I guess you could say advertising of HOT. And a pretty big one at that thus the fix they are doing today. They really do need to polish this sort of thing for future. Not saying that to be rude or anything as I think they are a great company and the game is great. But not all things can be foreseen of course especially when you are working hard to bring the content out and are so excited to be able to finally release it to the players. Just have to cross those T’s and dot those I’s more is all. :P
This is not being about Casuals vs Hardcore’s or people being too lazy/useless to be able to put the work in. This is a PR/communications issue just like the pre-ording issue we had.

Do they keep it the same so we all have our Elite Specs hour 1?
We’re 5 days into it, not hour 1.
We still have to get those hero points for map completion. The difference is I can get the rest of them with a full spec instead of half a spec.

If next expansion Hero Point Requirements are the same alot of us will be able to unlock the Elite Specs hour one. Which takes away the point of it being Elite and unlockable

1 – You have very little starting skills in GW1.
2 – True, but they stated it would not be unlocked immediately. I assume that meant 2-5 hours of grinding, but it turns out it was 8. That was not that far off.

Which takes away the point of it being Elite
‘Elite’ is just a name really. There is nothing elite about a few alternative skills/traits that aren’t even superior to the base skills/traits.

They had a LOT of people defending them though, because the grind took apparently so long, that they really just thought it’s okay not to use. People eventually got ascended a few days later, and noticed it wasn’t that much faster.
This is different, the people who didn’t grind HP, didn’t proceed. They couldn’t even play the later content because… well… they just stopped.
This whole debate is pointless. If you have fun doing all the Hero Challenges, this nerf wouldn’t affect a thing. You’re completionist. You’re a completionist whether there’s the nerf or not and you’ll get it all done anyway. The difficulty is still there, the challenge is still there.
What the defenders of 400 HP cost don’t understand is that Elite Spec, if you are going on what ArenaNet have been saying for the past 10 months, isn’t meant to be some sort of holy grail for the long haul.
Getting a Guild Hall will take effort, getting the Legendary Backpack will take effort, getting Legendary Armor will take effort, getting your Masteries will take effort. Notice how ArenaNet NEVER once mentioned Elite Specs as part of their “end-game progression”. They want people to PLAY the Elite Specs.
If you enjoyed the journey to unlocking the Elite Spec, that’s great. I’m sorry some of the players here disabused you of that fun. I support you in that. But please understand the purpose of the Elite Spec (MAINLY) is to be played, not to be earned.
Look on the bright side, when future Elites come you will have some points already to use towards it. Those players who only grab enough HP for the current Elites will then have to grab the rest or possibly go for any new ones with any future Elites/expansions.

Probably not.
They did say the reason for the change was due to not communicating the fact that it wouldn’t be as quick as most people understood from what communication was had.
When they announced 400 hero points for the elite specs I thought “Ah, a challenge”, especially as I have a character of every class.
Now that challenge has been stolen by whiners – the very same whiners that will be complaining that they have nothing left to do in a week’s time…..
You would have thought Anet would have learned by now – a bunch of vocal whiners complain about something new being too hard so Anet make it easier and then those very same whiners complain they have nothing left to do because it was too easy.
It has happened every time Anet have released new content and will carry on happening until Anet say “Hey you keep saying you wanted challenges”.

You can still farm every Hero Point, no one is stopping you.
Nerfing is when devs reduce the power/time on a skill. It does not mean anything else.

It’s not a challenge to run around 4 maps and pushing F so I can have a new way to play the content I purchased.
With the 400 point requirement, I had to either go on a scavenger hunt and rush through the content , or play through each map and burn through the content before I could use the new tools given to my profession.

This makes me think you actually didn’t play it or even try to get them.
Perfect example.
Anet preached end game, and progression. Well they took away progression, now that all my toons have the elite spec, whats left.. story and …. wait for it.. grind for gear.. So I have 30000 dust ore and fragments, my elite specs, AR out the butt, and full ascended gear. I have nothing to do 1 week into the game besides meta events in hopes for new stat gear? Oh but you can do legendary stuff… yup i will wait my 15 days for Anet to hand out the crap for the back item, 2 pages a day cause the rest of it is already done, for now I wait. Raids better be the kittens cause right now my 100 bucks is a disappointment.
2 rangers. 2 mesmers. 1 of everything else. Now a Rev. Do you think I found the thought of grinding 400 for each at all enticing?
Do you now? Truly, honestly think that THAT would have been acceptable?
1 toon sure… No problem. 2 okay… 3 pushing my patience. 4 and up?!? Whelp I guess I’m not even trying to do those.
Now do you see why 400 is not… I REPEAT NOT acceptable in this game of alts and play as you want?
They knew they had/have alt-aholic players. They SELL alt slots. 400 is not proper for us. Sorry if this is somehow a surprise for you. Even if I did not work- I simply do not see how I could unlock all of it on all toons in any reasonable time frame.
Think on that if you please.
Thank you.
not everyone has the time to grind or spend countless hours playing just so that they can enjoy the game with a new spec. Most gamers are casual gamers, not elitists. MMO’s are known for grinding, but to do that for every class is just outrageous. maybe if the mmo was one where u could swap classes on the same toon rather than making new toons every time it may be a little understandable. but as said before most gamers are casual and can only spend a few hours here and there to play. And most ppl would like to enjoy playing the new gameplay with the new specs rather than having to wait a long while of grinding or beating the game before getting that spec.

Maybe go do something else outside of game cuz if ur able to do all that with the game barely being out for not even a full week then that right there speaks for itself. i understand that many people grind tough and have many hours to play but to complain over you finishing all the content when many casual gamers needed the drop in hero points required to get the elite spec to enjoy playing the new content on the new specs is unreasonable. 400 points is a tough grind, 250 is reasonable.
I didn’t buy this MMO looking for a challenge.
Nobody’s forcing you to play the new maps, go back to your mad king labyrinth and stay there forever.
Want a hard time to earn stuff, then why did you buy Guild Wars 2? It was advertised as a game for casual players after all.
Arena Net are reasonable people and this change is a good move, it will make a lot of people happy.
I don’t agree with you, OP. I want my legendaries the moment I buy and log into the game. All of them. I also want to have 999,999 gold on every character. Why bother grinding all that stuff? This isn’t Grind Wars 2… Just give that to us ANET.
Why would you take the time to post such nonsense?
Comparing the majority of the community’s sentiment about lowering the HP cost of Elite Specializations to them demanding, or even wanting, legendaries, in any number, and an astronomical amount of gold is… the only word that comes to mind is stupid.
Making such a ridiculous post doesn’t come across funny, sarcastic or even satirical, but it does speaks volumes about immaturity, dysfunctional sense of humor and the complete ignorance of the aforementioned. Zero contribution to the topic, the original post, the ensuing discussion or anything else meaningful.
Maybe if you didn’t try so hard… you wouldn’t have to.
Just some food for thought.
I had no intention to grind the hero points on my third alt, after getting the required hps on thief and guardian. My Chronomancer thanks you Anet.
I agree.
It’s funny how people wanted PvE that “Didn’t Suck”, “Wasn’t Trivial” ….The moment we got that the backlash was so massive that anet catered to it.
Kinda saddening really.
I hope the raid team has more of a tougher stance to nerfing content than the team who made this rushed decision.
