Now please don’t turn this into the game is dying thread.. There is many events where people are not in most areas and new content was just released. (Also time was 4pm EST) But I feel as though some servers have some serious number problems. I was very close to having to solo Maw today, luckily at the last part 5… five… people came and we finished it. This is a little depressing. Granted I guest and find others where the culling is terrible or I’m in overflow, but it feels like servers really need a real examination by devs. I actually recorded it but it is a pretty large file so I can’t upload it at the moment. On the plus side I did get 3 rares from chest, 1 rare from bonus, and finished my daily all at the same time ^^;

I know this isn’t helpful or relevant to your question, but would you mind terribly if I asked for your server name? I’d love to guest to be able to see maw like that!

Oh wow, how did I forget that lol… NSP Northern Shiverpeaks.
I tried to play today but couldn’t find anyone even in lions arch so I quit (and by not finding anyone I mean nobody had responded to global chat)
Wow that’s so crazy. I’m on NSP and I see a fair number of people. Do you check out LA? We usually have loads of people at the temple runs every night too. So many that people complain about it all the time actually. Lately there haven’t been as many there but that’s just since the SSC patch came down so I just figured everyone’s been there.
We also used to have tons of people doing the meta events but that’s gone down. Rares aren’t what they used to be really. Get’s boring after a while. Queensdale’s usually packed especially when SB’s up. That’s just dumb now.
I have to admit though, other zones don’t have nearly as many people. I feel like everybody’s just in Queensdale, LA, SSC, and Orr. Otherwise I see maybe 3 or 4 people in other zones. No clue of other servers have more people in those other zones.
Oh, all this is based on Eastern time zones at prime time. During the day it can get fairly dead.

LA for me is usually dead as well. You really don’t see it until you have been to other servers. Then it really becomes very clear.. For instance you can see the difference in the pic below, this is a small sample taken at the same time. Events are very much different, it can be 5 people on server a, and 50 people on server b.
PS: TC is usually cramped with people in DR, I’m guessing the low pop there is because of the event.
I wish Anet could create a grouping system where people can have party search put on ‘global notice’ (ie. every single server) if the party leader wishes to do so, like if your server seems very empty, then asking people on other servers to come would help both get the party going and fill up that server. If things gets overloaded then they can automatically move that party to the ‘next more emptier server’ all in guest mode.

That would be nice, but every server might be hard. But at least a global (one server) LFG where people guesting could see as well. It going crossed every server might be hard since we can only guest to two worlds, might be unnecessarily cluttered.
Maybe this would help, having the account activity (the current level of accounts) AND the play activity (currently active players on server) listed. Just an example-

Would that fix any thing?

Yes, because it could be used as a metric to see what servers were actually very dead or very active. people who want to farm would probably pick a certain server, people who wanted to move servers could make better decisions based on actual players on server rather than accounts. And a metric between accounts-active could be made to allow people a fair price to transfer. Rather than simply saying “Very full X amount” when actually that server is a little empty. People transfer to very high because they expect it to be busy, and are finding the opposite. Also good for finding groups, maybe NSP is great for temples at 8pm (very full), maybe TC is good for active events during AM EST. Lots of things could be figured out using this.
Some quick examples:
Every time you check out servers X server seems always very full active status. And even though X server and Y server say Very Full account wise, Y server says Low Active population. So you might want to move to the more active one. Alternatively arenanet could offer discounts or cheaper costs to servers with lower activity status, rather than count on account numbers. This would make each server feel more full.
