I have to say I’m not really a fan of coats, its nice to have a few, but for males most armor choices are coats.
many of us want something different, ranging from skimpier outfits for males, to just shorter/tighter clothes and other types that aren’t coats.
we’re supposed to wear medium armor, in most games that means leather, you can make so much more with leather than coats.
you can go the more tribal way, or some leather straps, or harness (is that the corect word in english?) or just leather clothes that don’t have a huge coat.
I’m all for option and diversity with out clothes, but I feel for now, medium armor characters (specially males) have really not much to choose from
I really really hope that with the new expansion we’ll get some more variety in this.

All medium characters, male and female, have that problem. About the only option at the moment is outfits.

It would solve a lot of issues if the skins for items were not restricted by armor weight, it is not like skins change stats but often one looks better than another. Let elementalists look like they are in heavy armor!

I’ve seen female do have more choices though, there’s a few armors that look like more tight leather clothes on females and a long coat on guys( at least it has the long part, I don’t know if it’s really a coat)
I don’t like to wear long clothes, if an armor has short sleeves but still a long drape on the legs I count it as a coat, for practical reasons.

I agree, and also along those lines I want some of the male versions of medium armor for female characters. The male sneakthief coat is awesome, but when a female character puts it on it becomes a freaking Bra! I know a lot of people like that, but I would like an option to wear the male versions of armor on female characters, and maybe visa versa.

Also, light armor suffers a similar problem: Almost every piece of light armor is a freaking dress. We need more light armor diversity.

We already have this. You can buy Outfits from the Gem Store, and they’ll replace the looks of your current armor.

That’s not even close to the same as what we are talking about and you know it.

we do know about outfits, but there are also very few outfit options. Not really a solution at all. Besides most of them have a very specific theme that doesn’t fit many characters.
I want to have a sneaky leather wearing thief, it doesn’t fit any of the outfits or the armor.

Outfits are the solution, because they’re not limited to armor weight class. My Warrior and Mesmer can have the same looks once I apply an outfit. Best of all, they don’t require transmutations. It’s buy once and free forever!

Now on the discussion of more options, yes I agree there should be more. I want a schoolgirl outfit for my male norn Guardian, and speedos for my manly human Thief. If these outfits are put in the Gem Store, Anet won’t know what to do with all the money they’ll make.

New Outfits are released at a steady pace. We never know what they’ll make, so we need to hope for something that matches what you desire.

maybe, but I think that besides outfits we still should have more choices in medium armor, many people arenot enjoying all the coats.
also outfits tend to be really excentric anyway, not to mention the last few have been with gods themes.

Jokes about speedoes and schoolgirl outfits aside: outfits are not the solution, mostly because I want armors that are aquireable in game, not gem store purchases, I want to be able to mix and match pieces (gloves from one set, shoulders from another, etc), and there are only a handful of outfits. I am tired of outfits, it’s time A-net gave us more armors in game.

exactly, I enjoy mix and matching too! I don’t like to wear always the same clothes.
and I do think costumes should be left to more excentric options, not regular clothing.
