Please give us some information
Since this is such a hot topic, ArenaNet needs to do a better job keeping us informed.

i agree, i don’t wanna get jack again last minute
They don’t even know what they are doing. The last “big reveal” said that leveling past 80 wasn’t going to give skill points any more but extra spots for skill points availability would be added to the game. Now they’ve removed skill points all together.
I would love to have more information on these items but apparently even Anet doesn’t know what they are doing in the future.
As far as I’ve been able to gather:
- Skill Points earned are now Hero Points
- Hero Points are earned while levelling and completing Hero Challenges (basically the current Skill Challenges)
- Excess Skill Points on existing characters are going to be converted into a Wallet-based currency used in the Mystic Forge. (Basically it sounds like the exact same functionality as current SP, just as a Wallet currency. Leads me to believe Crystals/Bloodstone Shards and the like will simply be replaced by a price of this new currency.)
- I suspect Scrolls of Knowledge will simply add [an amount] of this new currency to your Wallet. It makes sense that equivalence would be preserved (so using now or later will be equal/similar in gain).
- Tomes of Knowledge “Do exactly what they’ve always done,” to quote someone from the stream (Peters I think). They’ll grant a level, but that level awards Mastery whatevers (points/experience, I don’t recall).
- Experience Scrolls? If you mean the Writs of Experience, see above. Likely the same effect as they have now.
- Skill Point Scrolls? AKA Scrolls of Knowledge? See above.
Hyperbole is the absolute worst thing in the universe.
I have to admit, all that you said is logical and sounds about right.
Why can’t ArenaNet be as plain as you.
That’s where the information came from…ArenaNet. There are several articles/blogs/news releases and videos addressing these items/issues.
They did mention excess skill points will go into the wallet as currency though they didn’t have a new name for skill points picked out. I have not seen any thing on tomes, and wonder if we will get mastery or if they should be burned for sp now. It would be great to know.

You must not be reading the blog posts mate.
Old skill points in excess of those earned by leveling and skill challenges will be converted into crafting materials for the Mystic Forge. Items and activities that were previously repeatable sources of skill points will now also provide that same crafting material.
There will be three categories of profession reward tracks, covering core specializations, core skills, and elite specializations.
So all but the 76 you get from levelng up and the 189 skill point challenges out in the world will be converted into this new mystic forge crafting materials ( repeatable sources of skill points would be including skill point scrolls and tomes of knowlage )

Yes but in the ama they said excess skill points are getting turned into a currency in the wallet. This currency will be for crafting, I agree. I don’t think they are just going to dump a bunch of crafting crap on us randomly.
ANet has a long history of sloppy word usage and unclear definitions. I think when they said the skill points will become crafting material, they meant it will become something used to buy items used for crafting in the Mystic Forge. Those items now bought with skill points will need a currency, and it will be the “crafting material” converted from skillpoints.
The tomes and writs, they have already said will only be useable up to level 80 and that the Masteries bar is not progressed by gaining experience but by something else, which they did not name.
ANet may give it to you.
