and then let thief use torch. It is important for my RP and character design that my thief is able to weild torch in both her hands. This would help build diversity and also every thief already wishes to use this weapon, we currently are very limitted compared to other class who can use torch.

I know alot in the game is not logic but… What makes Dual wield Torch great? Who fights battles with two torches? What stealth class would find two torches good for quick and easy kills and hiding?

I just don’t see torch as a mainhand weapon at all, becouse it is not… It’s like mainhand a shield (Yea I know some have asked for that too).

Please enlight me how good torch as mainhand and Rifles for mesmers would be for the game, what makes it soo good? (Except that it leads to more skills becouse I would rather have new weapons like Whips, Pikes/Pole-arms, Battle-axe, crystal ball even and more.

I could see torches as alternate scepters for the light classes, but not really for anything else.

Mesmers could use any weapon, really – they just wouldn’t use it in the traditional sense. I have a suspicion about what the rifle mesmer might be inspired by, but that’s neither here nor now.

Mesmers could use any weapon, really – they just wouldn’t use it in the traditional sense. I have a suspicion about what the rifle mesmer might be inspired by, but that’s neither here nor now.

Well, there was this mesmer, see, who had inherited a rifle from his warrior grandfather. Now, this mesmer had never been able to figure out how to channel his mesmery magics through the rifle, but he soon became quite fond of target shooting and carried the rifle with him wherever he went, just in case he might find happen upon a fun rifle shooting tourney.

Well, one day he was traveling through Ascalon, and some charr there had organized a shooting tourney just outside the Black Citadel, and the mesmer signed up — and won! It just so happened that there was a very lovely elementalist in the crowd who was so impressed with the mesmer’s shooting skills that she sought him out and invited him to a dinner party being catered by none other than Pitmaster Portersmoke in the Village of Smokestead. The mesmer, although a bit shy and awkward around women, accepted the invitation, and the food was plentiful and marvelous, and they had a wonderful time.

Afterwards they went for a walk, and the wonderful time continued — until the mesmer realized he probably shouldn’t have had that third helping of baked beans. By this time they were quite far from any facilities that might have allowed him to release some of the pressure without undue embarrassment. Though he endeavored mightily to maintain an air of charm and poise, for the elementalist was very beautiful and he was quite taken with her, inside he was utterly miserable, and outside the sweat was beginning to bead upon his brow. Then he hit upon a plan — a surefire way to give himself ease and further impress the elementalist.

He was, as usual, carrying his grandfather’s rifle, strapped over his shoulder. So he took it off and showed it proudly to the elementalist, and then pointed toward an outcropping of rocks not too far away, upon the top of which sat a small stone. He would, he informed the elementalist, take aim and shoot that small stone from its perch — but what he did not mention, of course, was that, as he fired the shot, he would take advantage of the rifle’s loud report to give himself respite from his internal misery. The elementalist clapped her hands with glee, eager for another demonstration of the mesmer’s expert marksmanship.

So the mesmer took careful aim at the small stone, and squeezed the trigger…

The rifle, alas, was not loaded.

The table is a fable.

Torches is something, that every clas should be able to wield in both hands.. as if it would require to have studied rocket science, just to be able to wield a torch (what is even at all no weapon, but just a tool)
I proposed some time ago also, that every Offhand Weapon in this Game should be wieldable in both hands. Id should play no role if a weapon is hold either in the left or the right hand. but it would give the game from the additional weapon skilsl just a bit for build variety for all classes

Torch Skills would be so easy to come up for all Classes:

Ranger Torch

1) Burning Thrust > Thrust with the Torch, damaging your foe.
2) Bright Light > Hold the Torch up to cause a bright Light that blinds nearby foes and gives you and nearby allies for a moment a Light Aura giving Retalitation when being hit when used as a finisher in a combo fire or light field.
3) Flame Trap > Set a Flame Trap at your Place (Utility gets replaced with an new Skill)
4) Throw Torch > Throw your Torch causing for 3 seconds at the place a Flame Pillar that damages surrounding foes over time
5) Bonfire > Sets a Ring of Fire that burns and damages foes inside of it

Guardian Torch

1) Ethereal Light > Shoot a Ray of Light, that heals also allies on line of sight and gives Vigor, of they had less than 50% health.
2)Glimmer of Light > Creates an field of light, that periodically weakens foes and cures conditions, while also giving random boons.
3) Exorcism > Burns foes, damages them and removes up to 2 Boons and for every Boon removed, you cure a Condition
4) Zealot’s Flame/ Fire > Set yourself on fire, burnign nearby foes/ Shoot the flame to a targeted foe
5) Cleasing Flame > Breathe magical flames, that damage foes and cure conditions on allies

Mesmer Torch

1) Backfire > Create a Chaos Aura around courself, that reflects back ranged attacks 25% strogner than normal and gives foes in melee range random conditions whenever you activate Backfire and while they hit your Chaos Aura..
2) Hot Air > Teleport away and leave at your place a flaming illusion of yourself that explodes a few seconds later in a large blast, which launches foes away with a stack of Vulnerability.
3) Fata Morghana > Create a searing heat, that causes your foe to see Hallucinations, which will attack the target or cause confusions or torments
4) The Prestige > Disappear in a blindign Smoke for 3s and set foes on fire, when you appear again
5) Phantasmal Mage > Creates a Phantasm, that confuses foes and grants Retaliation

Engineer Torch

1) Scorching Heat > Create a Heat Wave, that damages foes around you.
2) Toxic Smoke > Create a Smoke Field that poisons and blinds foes inside of it.
3) Bed of Coals > Create a hot Coal Bed, that burns foes, if they don’t move, but causes torments, if they move on it.
4) Liquid Flames > Create for the next 5 seconds a trail of fire while moving, which damages per second, that causes also burns to foes.
5) Flame Turret > Place a Flame Turret (Utility Flame Turret gets replaced with a New Skill)

Grants random boons for every foe that dies from the initial explosion damage to you and nearby allies.
5) Banner of Burning Passion > Replaces your Skills with the Banner Skills initially > Create a Banner of Passion, which when placed increases Condition Duration and reduces Condition Durations on yourself by 10%, while setting nearby foes on fire when you place the banner.

Necromancer Torch

1) Will’o’Wisp > Send out burning Will’oWisps that burn foes on touch, which will haunt your foes until they hit and life leech life force from you foes or drain health, if your life force is full.

3) – Sword/Torch – Heat Blade > Strike your foe with a hot blade that hits all foes in line of sight

3) – Pistol/Torch > Flame Shot > Shoot a piercing bullet, that burns all foes and causes a high stack of vulnerability also.
3) – Torch/Pistol > Quick Assault > Shadow Step to your target, deal damage, remove a boon before, place a time bomb on your target and shadow step back, the bomb will explode after 3 seconds and deals serious damage, if the target doesnt before a dodge roll.

This is exactly the kind of forward thinking that needs to happen, this person understand that it is really important for thief to wield torches in both hands not only because it opens build diversity but it greatly help all our new players to have a better experience in gw2.

In D&D there is prestige shadow dancer class and this is very important to my thief character as she RP with this prestige class, torches would make great for her to use this light to make better shadows to step in and out of. Now you know why we will need this in our game.

+1 for craftable tacos. Must be level 80 food. Can never turn down new cook options.

There are so many brilliant food options in the game, I’m sad that a lot of them aren’t useful after you level to 80. Wish there was a way to “upgrade” food to level 80 stats.

Maybe the more of pre-80 food you eat, the better the stats become? I dunno. Tacos sound great though.

Ranger main-hand torch idea I thought of and posted on August 2nd, 2013 ::::

Skill #1 : Chain Attack : Autoattack (Mainhand Torch Skill)

  • Throw (1)
Throw your torch at foe. Cripples if target is moving.
    -> Swing (2)
    Swing your torch at foe.
    -> Stab (3)
Stab foe with your torch. Applies Burning.
    -> Smother (3)
Stab foe with your torch, Blinding them.

Skill #2 : (Mainhand Torch Skill)

  • Salamander’s Ring
Evade in a circle around your foe, applying vulnerability. Also applies Burning to foes that enter this area. (combo field : Fire)
    Salamander’s Breath
Evade in a circle around your foe, applying vulnerability. Also applies Blindness to foes that enter this area. (combo field : Smoke)

Skill #3 : (Mainhand Torch Skill)

  • Extinguish
Douse your Torch’s flames, gaining stealth. no damage. All Torch attacks that cause burning cause Blindness instead. (Note: New skills are in Italic text that are changed)
    -> Ignite (2)
Re-Ignite your Torches early, surprising surrounding foes and applying Vulnerability. no damage. Your Pet’s next attack also applies Vulnerability.

Skill #4 : (Offhand Torch Skill)

  • Throw Torch
Throw your Torch and Burn your foe.
    Throw Torch
Throw your Torch and Blind your foe.

Skill #5 : (Offhand Torch Skill)

  • Bonfire
Set a fire around you, Burning foes. (combo field : Fire)
    Ashcloud
Kick up a cloud of ash and dust, Blinding foes. (combo field : Smoke)

Love these types of threads. Keep it up.

Also I would like to ask your thoughts on rifle for mesmer since these ideas seem like they would work and rifle is a good weapon for mesmers to get.

While I was reading some of the ideas, I kinda had a random thought about Super Smash Bro’s Duckhunt Dog. What if a Rifle’s clones could prematurely shatter if you shoot through them several times with the auto attack, causing AoE damage and torment? Would also be kind of cool if doing so pushed the clone forward closer to the target.

This is the kind of out of the box straight forward thinking that can make a game into a legend. All these would take to accomplish are some bold implementations without the needless quandary of naysayers. I support these and future ideas from the above Eloquent posters and would recommend that some or all be considered as future staff. With comfortable salaries of course. In closing the thief torch (t/t) is the most reasonable and most necessary for role playing of these future changes and should be hastened above all else.

Thank You.

Not to be a downer, but it’s wishful thinking to expect implementations on posted ideas. Granted, wishful is still hopeful, it’s not a hopeless endeavor but don’t expect your ideas to be implemented or even additions in the near future.

But people have stopped posting stuff like this enough, instead focusing on complaining about various parts of the game (not an inherently bad thing) or just complaining about the community. Threads like these are cool especially if more people get into it with various ideas and feedback that can be seen as more constructive, particularly for the vibe of the community.

I’ve made quite a few ideas in the past for weapon skill sets (threads are over a year old now!!) and they’re still pretty neat ideas. I even recall a thread from another poster for Elementalist torch which got some feedback that I liked when I read it. Check it out:

Also, when coming up with skill sets for weapons, I think it’s a good idea to explain what direction you had when making the set so readers can kind of get an idea what the set is supposed to be commonly good at/weak on so that we can make comments on if that direction is being accomplished and suggest ideas on how the set can better accomplish said goal.

With the thief torch set, I think someone besides the poster commented on its direction which may or maynot have been the goal of the poster but it’s sort of gives us an idea what style of set it’s supposed to be, i.e. similar to the prestige shadow dancer class.

As for the torch ele set, I personally think it IS overpowered. Reasons:

  • Unblockable armor-piercing damage? Why?
  • An auto-attack that grants might? I suppose it’s not unheard of but feels uneccessary considering all the might Ele already can get especially if #3 is a fire field.
  • Chill on auto-attack? Okay, but also a health restoration?
  • Not sure why Ele would get wards.
  • A stun auto-attack!? These better be some mildly challenging auto-attacks to land…
  • Wording in your descriptions are sometimes difficult to comprehend.
  • Silver Armor is very strong combined with all the other means of ridding conditions.
  • It’s not indicated how some of these skills land. For the effects they give, they should be telegraphed to be dodgeable and/or have high cooldowns.
  • The Mind-X skills are too strong, plain and simple. Especially since each attunement has one. They are too strong because they are too easy to get to work. If they deal significant damage to foes suffering their respective attunements’ condition, why also put that condition in the auto-attack? It’s too easy to burn a foe with the auto-attack then Mindburn, swap to water, chill with auto, Mindfreeze, swap to Air, use various CC moves, swap to earth, Mindpetrify, etc.

shoot, don’t expect any of the ideas you slave over to ever be implemented as is. Anet probably reads these threads, but they have their own slaves…er highly paid employees, to think of ideas like these.

Still doesn’t stop me from thinking of ideas like these though.

And craftable tacos.

ANet, please get on this stat!

Next update : Chef is now 500. You can also craft tacos! Taco shells are time gated and you can only craft one per day, and it takes 10 taco shells to make one crunchy taco supreme, which is also time gated. You need two crunchy taco supremes and two time gates craftable hot sauces to craft a spicy crunchy taco supreme.

Why does it take so much? Why does it take 5 Ascalonian salads and 10 Nopales a Cactus salad that’s probably the same size? Conservation of Mass is apparently not allowed to exist in fantasy worlds! That’s why!!!

I imagined this as a Food Consumable or, possibly, even a Focus. I can see you’re really thinking outside the box though. What stats would the Taco Prefix consist of though? Condition Damage, tough, boon dur maybe?

Dual wielding warhorns.
So awesome!

Better idea: bagpipes, the two-handed warhorn.

i support this, if they give us kilts

There are sooo many places that they could add weapons to the main hand in this game that don’t exist already with some pretty useful skills if they took the time out to do it in a balance patch that it’s not even funny anymore. I like simplification as much as the next guy but let’s face it when you simplify too much you end up with a lack of diversity especially in PVE.

Waiting on the day that they recognize this and fixit.

This is very true and is why I make thread to say this would be a good place to start, also it would be fun to get to learn the new weapons.

A few Side notes to my Postings:

1) I’m a strong supporter of GW1 Skill Nostalgia.. in other words, I’d like to see rather whenver possible/ or fitting to see more GW1 Skills return to GW1, than to see completely new Skills being added!

2) When I come up with Skill Ideas, like here, I rather try to make the skills fit based on GW1 Skills in mind, because Skill balancing is so or so not in my hands, as Anet will anyways change numbers and mechanics out as they like.

Special Notes to Leo & Azure:

@ Azure

Sure I know that there exist also Auto Attacks and I had Twilight Shade in mind to make special usage exactly of that quick attacking mechanic to give the Thief with the Tool of the Torch as their Weapons of choice the ultimate movement, because what is better for Shadow Arts, than the ultimate tool, that permanently creates all around you Light and Shadows to abuse?

I also know that my described mechanic wouldn’t exactly work so under Auto Attack, but thats also the point, where the programmign pros of Anet surely could find some kind of workaround to change my described mechanic, so that it would work better unter Auto Attack and still would give the thief its ultimate shadow stepping tool for very fast movement based on using ground targeting.

@ Leo

There exist Sigils and Runes, which give you easily Might Staks for doing Hits/Criticals or for receiving damage and you complaing for Might Stacks, that you receive only, if you hit a burning foe? Also I haven’t said a single word about it, how long that Might would last.

If you would have played GW1, then you would know, why Obsidian Flame should ignore armor,, because thats what this skill actually already did in GW1, adding the unblockable was just a little add from me to ensure, that this skill would be also useful under GW2 terms as a spike skill against targets like Guardians with their Aegis, and classes with lots of protection having on like those various bunker builds

There are sigils and runes, with effects that chill foes when you hit them, or you get hit. There is I think not to complain much about a chill, that procs only, if the foe suffers already on chill especially where players can also use runes and buff food, with that condition durations can also be easily reduced by like 40-60% to counter that!!

The wards were just only a GW1 Elementalist feature, which were unique to the Elementalist asd I just somehow miss them as elemental environmental attunements that buff the player based on how the environment has been elementally attuned.

Don’t know, whats so shocking (pun intended) about an AA stun (heck we even have AA Torment!), when the skill in itself is mechanically wise very slow!
A large lightning orb which moves slowly, can be easily avoided in a large open field.
This kind of AA should be far more useful in a small area, where victims shouldn’t have so much space to avoid being hit and dodge those large lightning orbs, which otherwise start hurting you secondly, if you get too near to them.

However, you are right and I see where you are coming from, so I figure I have forgotten to mention, that I would love to see somethign else from the Elementalist of GW1 also to return to balance better Elementalists – Exhaustion!!
GW2 Ele Skills (specific ones) should have Exhaustion, leading to the point, that if the player uses them too much permanently, that it fills up the Exhaustion of the Elementalist which in return increases the time they need to change attunements.
Currently Eles in itself are way too overpowered, because they can litterally spam through their Skilsl like a railgun and do it again in circles once they are done with their 4th element to begin again at the first one…
There needs to be done something against their skill spam.
So permanently spamming Lightnign Orbs could be a skill ,that quickly fills up their Exhaustion, so that this naturally balances out this skill and leads to the point, that a player doesn’t use just only constantly 1111111111

I apologise for my used wordings, I’m German and I know my English isn’t surely always the best, but at least understandable good enough, that people don’t have to request always, what I mean or what I have written at all ^^ I’ve still just only rusted in School English and this forum is just my way to ensure, that I don’t totally rust in lol ^^

But you are free to ask me, if you didn’t comprehend something directly, I’ll try to reword what I’ve written then to make it better understandable or explain it with other words ^^

The Mind X Skills have been thought out so this way, so that the player also has a way to be independent of other players, so that a player is also by itself able to make those Mind X Skills hit harder. Not Consistantly maybe, therefore is naturally the help of others good, but at leats so much to say, you don’t need permanently sombody around you.

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Look at how many skills they’d have to create if they did this and look at how many skills they’ve managed to create since launch. I don’t think Anet is capable of doing this.

And craftable tacos.

Only if they include popcorn too. I’d like to link that whenever I see drama in chat.

As far as the OP, torches are primarily condition weapons. I’d say that they could go ahead and add them as main hand. It doesn’t hurt to have more options. Although it adds more work to create and balance those new skills.
