Again, Im not upset because they said no to giving us these things, but Just in the manor of how it was answered and the reasoning’s as to why.
There are already a few threads on the subject, this one being the main one: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/No-more-SAB-I-guess/first
Oh right, there we go. Suddenly all these new pop ups make sense (threads, not actual pop ups).
Yeah, they try to be transparent and end up not answering anything. Even in the interviews about where the game is going, the devs prepare for certain questions and if they don’t get those questions, they gloss over it and try to talk about something else.

I feel like he just didn’t know how to answer a lot of it and just kinda rattled off the first things that came into his mind. Totally understandable, yet totally disappointing at the same time. For instance the discussion of First person and lengthening the FoV of the camera out in third person. The answers totally contradict each other and then he adds something about the first person camera that is not valid at all. We don’t want a first person camera for combat. We want it for screenshots, vistas etc and viewing others armor, and just looking at the beauty of the game in general. We want the third person camera to pan out more so we can see more of the map during fights of all kinds He says that detracts from us being able to see the beauty of the art work. That in and of itself in’t an issue. The fact that a first person camera would let us do exactly that and then telling us they won’t do it based on combat is quite frankly asinine. Again though, he was giving spur of the moment answers so whatever. No harm no foul.
The way they could fix it though is to give honest answers as to why these things aren’t being implemented.
Actually, I want the first person camera for some fights where we’re in tight cramped spaces and I can’t see diddly squat. Also for screenshots… and for running around.

It’d be great for Charr and Norn in tight JP’s too. The camera is super wonky in jumping puzzles.
It’s annoying because I can’t tell where I am since I’m in the legs of all those Charr and Norn.

If anet wasnt ready for these questions than they Truely are out of touch with the players and/or they have no communication within their own staff.
Either way it is a very bad sign.
They showed several times that they are out of touch with the community. One example is the merging with another party bug with the LFG-tool which palyers had to point out several times (even with a video-reproducting-proof) that the bug still exists or is even here.
Another thing are the dungeon rewards: they give 1.5g for the super easy AC paths. On the other hand the super annoying HOTW2 and SE2 give 1g which take – especially the latter – substantially more time to complete (yeah I know there are some speed clears though they don’t count for the major part of the community).
‘would of been’ —> wrong
OP, these are not people who work in the departments for the questions they’re answering and they did staggeringly bad because of it. Feel sorry for them for being in over their heads, rather than making a big deal about a single interview.
They didn’t say SAB is gone for good. They basically said they had a specific narrative focus. They have that focus in part because FANS complained about not having it in the first season. They listened to us.
Judging where a company is going from a single interview is just a bit of an overreaction in my opinion.
Anet leader and marketing team is responsible. Nobody else. Don’t blame the devs with the mic. Mike O’brian since launch is sending cats to do interviews, with the rule ’don’t say anything under NDA (95% under development is). Tbh i’m not mad at the devs who talked. They just followed orders. But the message is dissapointing indeed.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
I’m not sure I’ve seen a more skewed and unrealistic view of this game from the eyes of a player as the OPs post. I would call it “entitled”, but it seems the OP actually BELIEVES the imaginary foundation he has built his “disappointment” on.
THINKING the game is not Anet’s does not make it so….it just leads to…well, disappointment.

The problem, I think, is that there is a community that wants to play things like SAB and Anet not only sounds like they have no team working on it, but won’t acknowledge it as a mini-game or activity and instead treats it as a festival.
While I do agree that it wasn’t part of their department, it really sounds like it wasn’t part of anyones department. Additionally, they’re trying to be secretive because they don’t want to spoil the direction that the Living Story is going (into the maw of Mordremoth), which ends up just being, to me, an interview that would have ended up being (if they asked the “right” questions):
“Stay tuned and watch the patch notes.”
Which isn’t really how you conduct yourself during an interview.

Yes it’s not how you conduct yourself during an interview. I’m pretty sure those guys were completely unprepared for those questions. It wasn’t in their department. They were fudging, trying to do the best they could, but here’s a new flash for you.
Many game developers are more comfortable with code than people. I’m not saying it’s good or right that this should happen. I’m saying cut those poor guys slack, they were clearly in over their head. They didn’t know what to say.
Some people can tow the party line eloquently. They can say things in a way that mollifies even if it’s not what you want to here. But these guys might not even be aware of how popular SAB actually was. I’m sure not all devs have exactly the same knowledge.
It was a bad interview. No question about it. But that’s all it was.
Anet, gw2 is not your child, You might have given birth to it, But you gave it to US the Players, You may be its biological parents, but we feed it, raised it, gave it life and happiness.
Kinddaa sounding pretentious there.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Maybe, the OP is just being…..faux!

I was thinking of some other words, but I’ve been infracted enough already…
To be honest, I think the OPs “rant” is a very good example of the toxic mindset that permeates much of this Forum….

Sorry, I’m going to a university where everyone has social problems, we’re all “losers, geeks, and nerds” and the cool kids bring their 3DS’s to school to play between classes. We’re all studying to go into game development, animation (both for games or animation), and/or art. While I know that there are people here who won’t be prepared for questions outside of their own code, I would not even attempt to get them to talk unless I knew the question was in their realm of existence.

And, with the evergrowing list of bad PR mistakes Anet has made, the fallout is inevitable. That’s not to say I don’t love GW2 and won’t continue playing it (I will and I do), however it seems like… mmm…
GW2 is a giant room. There are pictures adorned on the walls and all around the room. When Anet looks at the pictures, they go to separate corners of the room and each department looks at a single picture, typically small (in relation to the room). The big picture (the entire room) is being ignored. Some pictures are very big (see: double meaning), and some are very small. The small ones are being brought out and Anet thinks of them as the big, precious pieces of art whereas the people enjoying them gloss over them and move along.
And yes, the terms big and small are not in reference to size or scale, but in reference to how players enjoy them. They cater to the casuals, which I’ve been used to, but now they’ve switched their focus to specific, niche minorities while still “catering to casuals”.
So instead of catering to casuals, they’re catering to specific casual players. I didn’t used to be a casual player, and I didn’t like them catering to casuals. I’m now a casual player and I still don’t like them catering to casuals. I also don’t like them catering to a specific casual player, even if it was me.
There are so many things you can do in this game, but then they start taking them away with little to no reason. The main reason I can think of SAB not being included would be server resources, but with Megaservers and all the optimization they’ve done since the last inclusion, there’s no reason for it to not return as a permanent addition unless the Megaservers are not as optimized as they make us think.
Additionally, they’ve supposedly had very, very stable and optimized servers since launch as seen by this video here
If they have people saying things that are blatantly untrue, they really need to get that PR department going because right now they’re just tossing kittens into the fan and wondering why it’s not giving them rainbows.
