You guys are doing great work and I’ve already purchased Heart of Thorns. I’m really looking forward to it.
However, this reminder/ad that is on every single loading map is pretty annoying. Is there a way to disable it or can you please remove it and disseminate this information another less intrusive way (ie. maybe on in game mail)?
Its on the loading screen… its not hurting anything. If it was during gameplay then it would be an issue. You aren’t doing anything important when the loading screen is present. its not that big of a deal.
1) measure your computer screen and find a picture that fits in front of it
2) hold this picture on the screen while the loading screen is up.
This will allow you to see something different than the bwe reminder and you won’t feel the need to make posts asking for ANet to take the time way from what they are doing and resetting the loading screens just because they are bothering you.

They want those who bought HoT in the beta to test all all the changes to previous and new elite specializations. They want to test out the new critter AI and how it scales. They want to show players how interesting just one portion of one map is like.
The countdown to release is on.
And … if you don’t own HoT, that at least informs you why the maps aren’t as full as they normally are on a Friday night.

the effect that it appears not directly with the screen but pops in a small time

And its each time .. not just now and then .. now on ever single loading screen.
EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.

agreed this is a major pain every time you map this comes up. it is not like we do not know there is a new pack coming out or that this is a beta weekend. there are thos who have not bought the game pack for there own reason,s and some of us are still waiting for more information on the new pack . and then there are thos who will not buy the pack at all. point is this is a big problem and hope Anet fixes it soon or they could loose new customers over it.

While you wait for ArenaNet to fix it, you can always minimize your loading screen, as your task bar will signal you when the game has loaded. Nothing to irritate you that way. =)

yup this is just what i been doing. you would think Anet would have gotten the point on this by now.
lol it will only be up while the beta weekend is on i dont think there is anything to fix and tbh if this is the type of thing that would make you leave how long were you really going to stay anyway

Seriously though, it is just a one liner across a very short loading screen to advertise their beta and pre-purchase – perfectly natural and acceptable practice for games.
I worry for people if this genuinely causes distress to peoples lives…
Everytime I drive to work I see the same billboards, day after day. I write the companies to complain but so far they haven’t taken them down. I have no idea why they don’t listen to my opinions on this.

Really? I don’t see why you are bothered by a couple lines of text overlaying a loading screen. This has no negative effect on the game whatsoever. If it bothers you that much you can simply [Alt + Tab] or [Ctrl + Shift + H] until your map has finished loading.

Because the game is one identical client for every single person who plays? Because they don’t have a way to program some people to have one loading screen and others to have another? Because the game doesn’t have a way to check your purchases? Because it would be waaaaaay to much trouble to set up two sets of loading screens based on purchases, especially for an event lasting only a few days? Because seeing the same advertisement as someone else is a first world problem?

It’s a load screen. I haven’t actually paid huge attention to load screens in a very very long time. I’ve already seen them for years. It’s not like they’re going to change.

Is it really important enough to take people away from their current work to set up the 2 screens and do the coding just so a few people don’t experience the minor irritation of seeing an advertisement?

I remember the old days of loading screens on my Amstrad cassette player. Waiting half an hour, watching the loading image build line by line, that hope building inside of you that you set the volume tuning to the right level for the game to load after it was built…
This? I can live with 10 seconds of text on a screen…

I noticed yesterday that my main account (which has purchased HoT) had a green colored link, while my alt (has not purchased HoT) had a red one. I didn’t pay attention to it after seeing it the first time., so maybe it just alternated colors or maybe they are distinguishing between purchasers and non-purchasers.
I can’t believe people are complaining about this, yet I saw no complaints about the flashy side screen pop up that accounts got in game shortly after the expansion announcement (if you hadn’t purchased) Why shouldn’t Anet advertise the expansion in game? There are lots of new players since the announcement of f2p, who might not have been following all the expansion news.
how long do you people look at loading screen? I look at it maybe 5 or 7 second. 15 second at worst.
I simply look a lot at loading screens since i am a big fan of gathering and i have
19 characters .. then i also try to switch /ip’s if there are mor then one for a map.
So in the end i mostly relog every 5-15 minutes, and sometimes even every 2-3.

Oh cmon .. every move you make in an MMO mostly triggers some database
query .. to make a query about your account status at the loading screen would

What, exactly, is annoying about it. You don’t play on a load screen. You can’t check your inventory. It’s a static picture you’ve probably seen hundreds of times before, if not thousands. I don’t think most people pay any attention to all to loads screens. This is some mental issue people have with advertising, on a screen they’ve stopped looking at months ago.
My point is right now its to advertise BWE2 and it is intrusive. A simple in game mail would have been sufficient like has been done in the past. What if Anet doesn’t stop here with BWE2 on ads like this? It works so well that next we see it with LS updates or some sale in the gem store? Its just a loading screen after all right?

lol, over dramatic much? They are not going to lose customers over a stupid message on a loading screen, especially one that only lasts for 3 days. Someone would have to be ultra petty to actually leave a game because of some stupid message on a loading screen. You won’t even leave the game because of it, you are just being over dramatic and nothing else.
