All you guys talking about headlines, content guide etc have no idea what you are talking about! It doesnt do much! You clearly do not play WvW! So please go back to watching your tournament of kittens.

They could fill the screen with that nonsense, I am still not going to care about the stupid tournament.
Anyway, advertisements like this should be optional and should have a selection box in the game options. I do not mind the content guide itself as it can be useful, but this is not content and as such should not even be mentioned in it.

Lol, so people werent there for the tournament, they were there for the precusor.

Hmm… Simply dumbfounding what some people will get foaming-at-the-mouth furious about.
And not only do you rage on something that is nothing more then your opinion, but you insult Anet, the game and anyone that disagrees with you… All while making yourself out to be extraordinarily hyper-combative (to say the very least) in the process.

I think the root of the issue is, why do you have to go bad-mouthing a segment of the game to make a point? Of course you’re going to attract snark with snark. Simply asking for an option in the menu to turn such things off is all that is necessary.

WvW has received basically nothing!
PvE gets almost everything.
And Anet continously try to push sPvP tournaments for esport.
It aint working, GW2 is not an esport type of game because the sPvP is pretty lame.
As a WvW player, I find it insulting that they are trying to push their epsort failure onto everyone so much that they have now even placed a permanent add on our UI, which you cannot get rid of, only make smaller.

ANet promoting a dead game mode still believe they have a chance at ‘e-sports’ omg I can’t stop laughing right now. /facepalm
Particle effect slider would be ‘too confusing’
1 – It’s Their Game.
2. They are advertising in a very non-intrusive way an event they have going this week.

While I’m not as upset about this as the OP, I do recall that a lot of us have been wanting more control over that part of the UI for a while now. If I’m not working on my personal story, I’d love to be able to turn off that part of the display. Same would go for this announcement/advertisement.
What’s beginning to annoy me is that every time I open the forums lately, I have a big red announcement box telling me about this tournament. Closing it isn’t a problem, but why does it keep coming back? It’s like an annoying person that refuses to understand that you’re ignoring them and keeps yelling for your attention. I can deal with it, but I’ll be glad when it’s gone for good.
