Apparently, for a lot of people anything besides sitting in LA and posting in map chat is considered a grind.
The people are just being dramatic.

If Guild Wars 2 released with the Ascended tier in place, there wouldn’t be anyone complaining about it
It is an end-game gearing step up that you can work for. It doesn’t take that long. It isn’t that hard.
This gear is no harder to obtain than a Legendary, it’s not completely necessary to obtain them, and it really does standardize their offerings for end game gear.

The forums should be a temple to praise ANet, the gods of game design. In their wisdom they gave us time-gated content and the eternal grind afterwards.

It really does feel epic fighting your way through all those unwieldy randomly rearranging unnecessarily lengthy menus to end up with the top tier of gear in the game after grinding 50+ hours for the mats.

But they didn’t release Ascended tier in place, That’s the point.
What was once a no grind philosophy got thrown out the window.

It does take “that” long to get an ascended even with out the time gating. The mats require extensive farming and face rolling. Not to mention leveling craft disciplines.

Not everyone can get a Legendary, If people like you keep saying “it’s no harder to obtain than a Legendary” it just makes the situation worse.

And it is completely necessary to get them because they’re more powerful than exotics. They’re not just for show, they give an advantage. Plus, if you look at the collection tab you’ll see that ascended armors will be coming soon, so anyone in exotics wont get a fighting chance.

The people that are happy are posting on these forums as well defending stupid changes.

I implore you to find a MMO that does not have any grind, in any form, in any manner, in any way, and report it to these forums. In fact, to every MMO forum that exists. The people need to know about this paradise. If you can’t do it let us know as well.

It is also possible for any person to put a ‘grind’ label on anything. It comes down to personal opinion, no matter how deluded or false.

I could say dungeon armour is a time gated grind. I could say gem store purchases are a time gated grind. Think about it, this whole “issue”/“argument” is ridiculous.

ArenaNet: “If you don’t like MMOs, you should REALLY check out GW2”… And one of the many reason why some people don’t like MMOs is because they are usually mediocre games hidding basically a grind-based treadmill.

Saying “GW2 is the best MMORPG in the world!” means little. In the land of the blind, the guy who has one eye is king, but he still lacks depth perception.

Game Statistics was very effective in the past !
Forum was not the reason !

That’s the real kicker right there.
The comparison of legendary weapons to ascended is pretty much trumped when you acknowledge the fact that there is a stat difference between exotics and ascended. Legendary weapons were purely for the ego factor and the few achievements attached to them. No better in stats than exotics.

Ascended is a higher tier than exotic. The stat difference may seem minor for the moment but given time as more players gain ascended weapons and trinkets there will be a noticeable difference in performance between players in ascended gear and those without. Saying that ascended gear is not a necessity is simply trying to deny the inevitable.

The stat difference is not minor. A single piece of Ascended gear won’t matter much. A full set most certainly does. We now have more than half of all your gear available in Ascended, so not having that means you’re at a disadvantage.

There are trolls on these forums, yes.

But there are also people who care about the state of the game, and want to express their thoughts to ArenaNet about it.

Those thoughts are not directed at you. So don’t worry about it. If the forums bother you, you do not have to read them.

Trust me on this: you will not convince someone who does not like tier gear to like it by saying “but you can play the game without it”. If you’re still using that argument, you haven’t really payed attention to why people don’t like it. It has nothing to do with effort or entitlement. Nothing whatsoever. And these people are not “whining”. It’s actually a really good philosophical discussion, if you care to partake, instead of be upset that someone has a different opinion than you.
