Please change all skills to mobile skills. It’s frustrating to have any skill that roots players when the game was designed for movement based combat. While I do appreciate that most skills do not lock the player in place, the skills that do make for really clunky combat.

I laughed. That was a very good point!
The whole point of skills that root you is to make it so you have to plan when you use them and not just spam them. Readjusting them to let you be mobile while they’re cast would require a re-balancing of every skill that roots you.
Are you referring to skills like Hundred Blades which get cancelled if you move or are you referring to skills like Heartseeker where once started you can’t can’t do anything until it finish or you are interrupted?
i as good as never use Barrage (ranger longbow 5) cos it gets canceled when i move during combat.
So, i dunno, perhaps some of those skills could be altered imo.

Agree and Meteor Shower, they make light and medium armor characters sitting ducks.
Please don’t, for the reasons already given in this thread.

The end results may be really underwhelming.
Its a balance decision to root the player when they use what are supposed to be powerful skills. It currently feels outdated in the game because HoT intoduced a lot of powercreep, and now some of the skills that root you no longer seem as powerful as they used to.

The end results may be really underwhelming.
Why Meteor shower is easily moved beyond so the damage would still be minimal it would just allow the Ele to keep moving while casting, so I really see no reason to reduce damage.

I think some skills need this tweak. I know there is a couple of painful ones on my Thief or Mesmer that seem to have no logic to them at all.
In my mind tho it would be for melee ones. The Ranger and Ele ones given above as examples I would say should not qualify. You are at range (or could/should be) – there should be some penalty.
the heavy channels like hundred blades, meteor shower, blurred frenzy and barrage should probably stay as is.
the soft roots like mind stab, symbol of wrath and hornet sting could be smoothed out.

The stationary casting of meteor shower makes it far easier to interrupt the long cast time. Allowing the players to move would make it harder to interrupt as they could take better advantage of LoS and whatnot. Its all just a balance thing. Its annoying, yes. Extremely annoying at times. But I don’t think its a problem, it just feels wrong because of all of the more powerful skills introduced with HoT that didn’t root you when casting.

Some of the skills added in HoT use this mechanism so I would say that it isn’t any more “outdated” than any other part of the combat system.
Like you say the root is there to balance skills, rooting the caster allows for the chance that melee attacks simply miss an opponent that can get out of the way. For ranged attacks it gives the opponent a chance to close the gap with the attacker (or break line of sight). This is especially important when your opponent is another player.
The fact that you’ll be rooted while using a skill is an important part of the decision that is made when deciding to use a skill. Can I get my skill off safely? Will it be effective? Removing that would remove a lot of the nuance in the combat system.
