I left this game because of that a few days ago. There is no fun in the challenge of killing mobs if have to expect to never get a reward.

I dunno what it is but it’s very annoying to never be rewarded for anything.

This is my experience with this title.

  1. Complete a map. get a couple of silver and a blue, a green if Mars is in retrograde.
  2. Buy some of those crafting bags for laurels or the boxes from Orr open them all and get nothing but greys and bottles of karma and not the large ones mind you we’re talking drops.
  3. Go to farm mid level mats for leveling crafting, kill 6 things and then get nothing to drop and when something finally does for the next 30minutes to an hour greys.

It gets REAL old fast.

Let me also add that the bot thing doesn’t apply anymore because they have changed their methods to something that the devs can’t adjust, and that’s the acquisition of resource nodes. Who needs to kill a mob when you can make 8 toons and set them up to login one by one and teleport from each node just long enough to gather them, meanwhile they are destroying the rest of their community of legit players by preventing anyone from being rewarded.

Silly me, I thought I was complaining about those too. I’ll happily agree that certain world event chests have better loot than they used to. That being said, with exotics being the most rare gear that drops from any of those places as well as the STATISTICALLY BEST gear that drops just about anywhere (yeah FotM blah blah blah), how many exotics do you see doing those events?

I can’t speak for everyone, but I’ve done pretty much all the world events and dragon champions scores (if not hundreds) of times and I think to date I’ve seen a grand total of 0 exotics drops for myself. The only exotics I’ve ever gotten as drops were from Dungeons (now we’re in the area of 3, and one was an exotic recipe >< for something that would require about 75g worth of crafting materials). Sure, maybe I just have impressively bad luck… except that most of the people I talk to in-game are having the same thing happen to them.

A big chekittenll of insta-merch that often is not sufficient incentive for many players. Now, if you wanna talk about making rares have the same stats as exotics as legendaries but with more desirable skins, that might go a long way to changing how people feel (or it might not… dunno).

well on average I get more exotics trough events than in dungeons (except for fractals), that being said exotics are pretty rare. However us not having exotics for 1G each or less on the TP how rare are they actually? Price suggests that maybe there’s a bit more of exotics dropping than we would expect.
Rares are a tier lower, so I don’t think that they should have the same stats. They would benefit from greater skin variation (all rare dungeon sets look the same).

Exotics having strictly better stats than rares makes people see using rares as a temporary measure. (The same is true for many about ascended gear vs exotics). Why are so many people banging their heads against the infinite wall that is FotM? Is it because the visual appearance of the gear there is better? No. Its because the rewards are better AND they can get ascended gear (better stats). Without this really artificial stat differentiation (and by the way NOT having that was one of the trademarks that made GW1 great) you’d likely see players playing all over the place instead of just the places where they have the best shot at getting the best loot.

Very few of us have the mind-set of a hampster in a wheel… we’re not going to just run and run for no reason, and when we have to “run” we’ll find the most efficient way of doing it so as to maximize rewards while minimizing effort, and if the work outweighs the reward, we won’t even bother. Anet should know this better than most, but their design decisions make it seem like that don’t recognize it at all lately.

I think the op means bring back the fun of farming to gw2 that we had in gw1.

I don’t know who “we” is, but I’m certainly not one of them. I played through all four campaigns and earned enough 30/50 HoM points, and I never once had fun farming in Guild Wars.

You might not be among them, but if you ever perused PvX, you should be aware that one of the most popular sections was the farming builds section. In a broad sense, almost everyone plays these games because of “farming” whether they’re farming for loot, prestige items, kitten, or jukittenn.

don’t generalize players. I bought GW1 to experience the full story and do every single quest in the game to see what they’re about.

I’m not saying people didn’t farm in Guild Wars. I’m not even saying people didn’t enjoy farming in Guild Wars. But the popularity of PvX’s farming subsection isn’t any more proof that farming in Guild Wars was fun than the popularity of Pent/Shelt events or CoF speed runs is proof that farming in Guild Wars 2 is fun.

Some people like to gamble and are addicted to RNG, others don’t like to gamble and prefer to farm. I think that it’s great that Anet made a game where you don’t have to farm or grind in order to play the content but why shun all the players that do enjoy farming. Personally, after completing the personal story twice, leveling 3 toons, all i want to do is maximize my gains for the time spent playing cause I have an objective in mind and that is to try several new builds on my toons. If I can make 5g an hour +mats farming instead of 75s an hour playing the game “as intended” I will choose to do the former for an hour, then I’ll go play WvW (where the rewards suck even more and has bigger gold sinks than PvE) for an hour cause that is all the time I have.

Be careful what you wish for, Anet might just give it to you “HoT”

This game is about to be a recent memory because Anet keeps making stupid nerfs and making stupid buffs to things thinking its alright, well its not alright, other games are going to be released soon, Sub or not and everyone will be fed up with Anets kitten and leave this hole, I know most my guild, 400+ is sick and tired of them making things more difficult and making rewards worse, I noticed they have made the dredge fractal harder and still fractals drops are crappy, We did a lvl 50 run today for the first time and found out there is no possible way to do Jade Maw at all. Even with res orbs its impossible, we spent several hours getting there for nothing, I got 2 rares and a core from the whole run, I was amazed, cause I got no rares from my lvl 46 run the day before.
Sad that you had to ruin such a decent game Anet. Why don’t you tell NcSoft to go kitten themselves??? Do what you want Anet, cause you can’t kitten it up much worse then it already is. Or can you?

I think that no loot is fine, as long as the gameplay itself is fun enough. Honestly, GW2 isn’t fun enough by itself, it needs some kind of reward to keep(seems like everyone) people interested. This is the very reason you see people zerging meta events and not other events like escorts etc. If you are one of these people that are partaking in 45 sec meta events that are literally spammed down and enjoy it, kudos to you. I might interest you in thousands of other games that do it just as bad.
In short, if the game was fun enough, people wouldn’t be as desperate for rewards. Many games successfully make games that are extremely entertaining for countless hours without requiring rewards all the time.

I can’t stand a game that it feels like there is no feeling of reward for any kind of accomplishment or you feel like the people running it are punishing you for playing it all the time.

It is when you are afflicted with the “no loot for you” bug or whatever it is that causes continuous nonstop 100% never finding anything even with mf at maximum. It’s like that killcredit bug, more and more people are being affected by it every day and you know it took them 5 months the last time someone said something about there being a problem, why wouldn’t it take them a whole year this time. It’s okay tho the more people afflicted by this the more the word of mouth will go around the internet the more people will know that this is not a game that offers rewards even if it is a carrot on a stick and people will eventually not want to play and will tell their friends not to. Maybe then they’ll check their code.

It’s grind is just different. The old grind is level/gear grind, GW2 grind is “shiny” grind, meaning all the flashy, rare stuff that is hard to get but gives no/minimal benefit/edge.

There is a big disparity between the effort needed to level up a character to 80 and gear them in full exotics, you could do this in a week easily if you really wanted to, and getting a legendary weapon or one of the mystic forge recipe exotic weapons.

So if you just want to play the content, there is minimal grind to GW2, but if you want to look cool/fancy/shiny then there is A LOT of grind.

1. I know, that’s why I also quoted MF recipe skins, which can cost upwards of 200-800gs to make (look at any recipe that needs charged lodestones), or if you want to craft any of the halloween items, or get the greatsaw sword, or whatever. Sure, there are other items out there that look cool and don’t cost 100s of gold, but that’s not the point. The point is that this stuff is the “end game” of the cosmetic part of GW2 and there is a large gap of time/effort between exotics and this stuff, Anet has acknowledged that themselves and they are starting to try and fix it with ascended, but ascended items don’t have any cool effects yet.

2. Did I say that you should get a legendary in a day? No. Stop exaggerating.

What is your definition of long term? A year? Two years? Five? I’ve been playing since release, have probably somewhere around 1600 hours in, and have 220g in liquid assets and if I sold everything else I’d probably have around 1500g, still not enough to get a legendary (and I can guarantee you that I’m not the majority of the players).

I would expect Anet to drop an expansion between 1-2 years after the game’s release, and I would set that as the goal for a dedicated player to obtain a legendary (dedicated meaning 1500 to 2500 hours of non-farming playing, that’d be about 2-3 hours every day)

1500 is pretty friggin close. I’ve been playing it a lot, but I could probably never go for a legendary, because there will always be a new pet in the store that I want, or some other item that looks cool, so I’ll just spend it. Other that that I did manage to get cultural tier 3 and can make around 2 to 8G a day (depending on how long I want to play), meaning that getting a legendary at my best would take me only over 200 days or so if I put my mind on it.

Can and do are two totally different things. Can/do you make 2-8 gold without farming? Can/do you make 2-8 gold with casual play (just running around the open world doing events and killing random mobs, not running cof1 multiple times). Is this rate of gold acquisition extrapolated to the whole game?

Title of the thread is “Point of adds with no loot?”, I think the point is clear: to decrease the amount of drops/silver that player characters get (whether bot or person). There is no other reason. More effort for less reward.

I would understand if it was one of the new weird stat combinations that I’ve found, but no, it isn’t. The exotics for 1G normally have the same stats as crafted exotics sold for 4-6G.
And now if you’re making 20 gold in a day good for you! It means that a legendary would take you far less time than me. But both of us could get a Legendary in less than a year, making it a very logical long term goal.

I don’t consider myself a hardcore farmer so I always wonder how those who do think of themselves as such view attempts by the company to slow them down. I often hear very vague descriptions by the player base about what is too little but never what is too much in terms of gold/item acquisition. Are there sort of “free market” farmers out there who believe that players, if they choose, should be unfettered in their wealth acquisition? Do they believe that there is no detriment to the game, economy or community if a certain threshold of wealth acquisition is breached by a segment of the population?

The devs do want to slow people down (in some areas) and not give them easy money, at least with regard to infinite mob spawns during some events. Still, you can do some creative financial magic with the TP and some comments from the devs seem to even encourage it. Also, I keep hearing people say that the game is designed to make you convert gems to gold out of necessity. I still think that is only going to be perceived as a truth by people who believe in the path of least resistance. I will admit it is hard to argue against that, at least on the surface. There are many reasons for allowing gem to gold conversions. Even so, the move to reduce mob loot in certain areas is not the primary motivation for it.

Were you done leveling your main character in the first 1-2 weeks of the game’s release? Did you have them geared out within the first month? How many expansions did they already have out?

The short term goal of GW2 is decking out your character, the long term PvE goal, for the most part, is money….anything other than that, in PvE, is just running in circles until new content is released (not that there’s anything wrong with doing circles, if you enjoy it more power to ya). For people that still look for some linear progression, money is the key in GW2 since the linear progression in GW2 is fashion which costs gold.

City of Heroes only ever had 2 expansions. Villains and Paragons. Years apart.

I played that game the same way I play this one: for the enjoyment of playing it.

Not like some Skritt collecting useless shinies.

I noticed all the guild challenges mobs give no loot too, seems to be a new trend, one of which i stopped playing much because of.

Actually no we’re complaining about the lack of loot in all things. There’s this lopsided thing happening where “when” two people from the same guild or friend grouping get together daily/weekly/monthly they should not expect the same loot every time for every event right? Well that’s what’s happening and those of us stuck with the crappy drops all the time are sick and tired of it.

Also, the TP is a direct reflection of that. There are items so rare in the store they jump up by whole gold pieces per month. There’s an item right now necessary for zerker build that you have to buy 6 of if you want to stack it and it costs 12 gold do to how rare it is to get the mats to drop to make one. It’s going up as we speak but everyone thinks it’s perfectly fine tho.

There’s also the problem of magic find not really doing anything for these accounts that are hitting DR or whatever it really is that’s cutting off the loot for players.

See that’s the other thing. DR should never ever ever affect events. Those mobs appear temporarily and only for those events. Once you killed the 8th one you should get loot, people are reporting getting nothing or being insulted by getting skulls.

If this were minecraft I could have built an entire castle an armor set, a throne and a weapon out of all of the porous bones I’d accumulated and loot shouldn’t be like that, in fact it’s not on every other mmo out there. You can farm without restriction on those even in games where they have only 1 currency just like they do here in GW2 where that one currency is controlled/affected by the loot the players receive. So why the stingy nature of this game? Why is this game different in that regard and why is any business professional in the team over there content to restrict the awards for time spent system? Don’t they realize they are not gaining customers this way but scaring them off?

Yep. there must be a good dozen of you now on the forums. And we know you’re sick and tired of it, because you’re repeating it in every single thread….even if the thread isn’t loot related. It always comes back to loot for you.

And you know, I get it. You’re not getting good drops and you’re kitten ed. But that doesn’t change the fact that people in your situation are not in the majority, probably aren’t close to the majority and we haven’t even really established that there is a problem, except your repeated say so.

In the same way that if they took half a dozen of us fan boys (and girls) off this forum, there’d be less positive posts, if we took a dozen of the people who have this problem there’s be a whole lot less negativity.

You’ve said you’ve found another game that’s better, why are you even here?

The ironic thing is, blue/green gear is so cheap because it’s so common. I get a dozen pieces a day and most of them I can’t even sell on the TP because they go for 1c above vendor price, so I vendor them to save the in 15% tp fees. Even the ones that eventually sell often sit there for a week or more.

So, if yellows and oranges were more common, I would get a dozen rares and exotics a day and most of them I couldn’t even sell on the TP because they would go for 1c above vendor price, so I’d vendor them to save the in 15% tp fees. Even the ones that eventually do sell would often sit there for a week or more.

There are a LOT of people playing every day, and the TP is cross-server so it all dumps into the same pool. This, more than anything, is responsible for the drops in prices. So increasing the flow of loot does nothing to help.

I don’t think it’s fine. This problem is not caused solely by material rarity — its ancillary cause is the belief that only a maxed direct damage build is desirable. This leads to increased demand. Fix the bloody game balance so that other builds have value and the price will drop.

Sorry, but that’s overly simplistic. There are lots of ways they could make the game feel more rewarding without significantly affecting TP prices of most things. For example, if once per day/week there was a mega-mega event the came with a 100% chance of an exotic that was account bound, the only way that could affect the TP is from the rune/sigils/ecto that could be grabbed off it. As the prices of all of those things are really higher than they should be (runes and sigils are needed just to kit out your character and ectos are needed in MASSIVE quantities for all kinds of things), that’s an effect I’d be perfectly willing to live with. If anet decided that would be too strong, they could just make the drop unsalvagable the way karma loot is and it WOULD STILL be an improvement to the current system.

I came up with those ideas in 30 seconds… Anet has had years to think about it, meaning we should expect something even better.

They make the boss fight take longer than it really needs to take.

All bosses are big bags of HP that doesn’t require any thought to deal with. If there were no adds, players wouldn’t possibly die.

I speak for my self and no one else. Only fools believe they speak for a majority.
