Pointless to even play this now...
Agree. Maybe they will fix it when they figure out how to make some more money out of it. Considering how many people are experiencing them lately and no official word about it, it’s clear where their priorities lie.

Yeah, I’ve had non stop crashes as well ever since HoT came. Sometimes during big events in Verdant Brink, sometimes just standing around. Never had this problem before. It’s making progressing impossible and has really soured what should’ve been a fun expansion.
Lol, internet connection? No mate, it is too many people having problems. Also u might want to look at the account subforum – number of crash/lag threads is BIG.
I’ve had a couple of crashes. More than I used to have but not significant enough to affect me game play. I’m probably crashing once a day. I assume they’re working on it.

Clearly fixing the Crashes. Its not as easy as some People think. It seems that there are various Reasons for the Crashes. Some People never crash others have more Creashes. I for myself have only encountered Crashes in the South Auric Basin Events.
And to that official Word. Its no surprise. What should they tell?`" We are working on it"? Of course they are but this " We are working on it" won’t be enough for many here to cease their anger. Have seen it in the Past, so doesn’t surprise me.

How would someone’s internet connection crash the client? o.O

You can find the ‘official word(s)’ in the Dev Tracker, or the pertinent threads.
Good luck.
If you looked at the Dev notes for all the patches we have had since it went live you would see at the top of pretty much every note “Fixed Server Crash” and/or “Fixed Client Crash” which means they are fixing as fast as they can with what information we send them about the details behind the scenes when it crashes.

It’s possible. There could be a bug in the networking code that was expecting X and got Y within Z period-of-time. Unlikely? Yes. Possible? Yes.
Map looks very pretty and huge numbers of players on the map, then it crashes. turn down your graphics so you can no longer appreciate what it looks like and it will crash a lot less (apart from the usual server crashes).
I haven’t crashed yet (knock on wood) but I also have not been playing in the new maps or the new content (except my Revenant).
Are these crashes just happening in the new zones?
Going max on everything with a 100/10 Fiber internet and I have crashed once since release of HoT. The time I crashed I was in a team with my gf so I didn’t loose progress, yay me!
I dunno what the problems is but obviusly not everyone has the same problem, sometimes people crash becouse their own network is bad and just becouse there have been many reports off the game crashing players emedietly blame Anet. When I have repeated crashed I first start to look for problems in my own network. Last time I had repeated crashes a few times a week I found out that it was my old router who died little enough to kill GW2 but still able to give me connection to surf. A few month back I got myself a new router and I havent had a crash util I crashed once for four days ago.

For me yes, 15-20 or so crashes so far, 10 of them at least in the Auric Basin, some in Dragon’s Stand and Verdant Brink. My friends tho crashed at Tequatl, in Lion’s Arch and at Shatterer.
So it seems it has a higher chance in the new maps but can happen everywhere.
And to clueless people, we are talking about the client crashing, e.g. you get the “Send error report to ArenaNet” window, not disconnects.

I won’t say it’s pointless to play this now.. That’s a bit overstating the problem. I did got crashed couple of times. Once when exploring and once a minute before successfully completing dragon’s stand. Very frustrating. But I’m pretty sure Anet are working hard on those issues, just keep sending then the reports.
never crashed for me, maybe it’s more a grapthic problem then anything……
Also constantly crashing and losing out on meta events. It’s very frustrating.
I have crashed just once in the last month. That was participating in a large event. There are multiple reasons for such crashes and it is usually due to some client issue caused by a game update.
The real issue is not the crash itself but the fact that once you get back into the game you will be in a different instance and therefore unable to get the reward you worked so had to obtain.

This will depend on when and where you crash, as to whether it affects your game play,
In the last week ive had more crashes in game than I did in the previous 3 years playing the game, now granted its a new game and bugs/glitches happen, but to be in Auric Basin for over an hour doing the world Meta event, get all four vines down to the final burn, and then have the game crash and not get rewarded and lose all progress etc, and then not beable to get back into the same map, id say that has pretty massive impact on someones playing experience,
So much so that I can see some people avoiding the new maps completely because of it, and unless Anet either,
1, fix every bug /glitch that stops the crashing
2, introduces a reserve slot system so it gives you say 5 mins to reload and get back into the map,
Then these complaints will continue, and sadly people outside the game looking at it and maybe looking up reviews who see, WARNING don’t get the game, it crashes and you get no reward etc, are going to avoid it, and tell there friends to avoid it.

I’m US, have a CAT-7 cable, and download speeds of 90 mbps so in my case it certainly isn’t internet speed even accounting for fitting 4k resolution down the pipe. RAM on the other hand being hamstrung by the 32-bit client on the other hand cripples it. They’re likely up to their noses in crash reports…do they even actually get them anymore or are the crash reports simply there to give us the feeling they do?
im also constantly crashing during larger events
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Yep, its a graphic problem. Ive never crashed in this game but my friend does in larger events so he has to turn his graphics down. We have told several people to do this and it has fixed the crashing problem. I mean, it could be something else, but Ive noticed that this is what fixes it.

I refuse to play gw on low graphics though, takes away half the fun which such games r about, kinda why i have an uppdated rig to play shiny games.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
Well then youll be crashing until they fix performance issues. If they do. I built mine to play this game before it came out but I still cant play it in all of its glory. I really think they should look into that. :/ But I dont know

They did a 32-bit client to maximize “accessibility” but let’s keep it real here: no one has used 32-bit for many years even Windows XP had a 64-bit version. By going to 64-bit they’d solve far more problems than they’d create. The average gamer today is saving up for a Pascal or Arctic Island card with HBM-2 and maybe some other hardware in 2016. I’m personally saving for a Cannonlake processor and Asus RoG motherboard ahead of time to replace my Maximus VI Hero and i7-4770k since Cannonlake should be the cycle where it’d be worth it. Maybe not purely performance wise but the PCIe should be far better optimized for SSDs by then and other features making the price worth it.

If you look through all the OOM crashlogs in the technical help forums you will
be astounded how much of them result from people that still use 32-bit windows.
And (nearly) nobody used XP-64 since it was never planned for gaming and
had bad driver support. Personally i started with Vista-64 because i played
Age of Conan and there we also had a lot of OOM problems with 32-Bit Windows.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
im also constantly crashing during larger events
If that’s the case, I suggest restarting the client before doing a big event if possible if you have been playing for an hour or more. If I’ve been playing for a couple of hours, I can practically guarantee I will crash during the final burn phase in the Teq fight.
I can stand still in lions arch and get 12 crashes in a row in less than 30 mins. However, anytime during these crashes I can enter the mad kings lab & play non stop for up to 6 hrs. Crash as soon as I leave the lab but the lab is stable as all kittens
The client can’t manage memory well and frequently gets OOM errors now due to the new maps and increased resource usage. This isn’t a player problem, but an issue inherent in the code. Turning graphics down helps, but we shouldn’t need to if Anet took the time to fix the code. This has been happening since before HoT (Most people didn’t notice because it only happened in big events like Teq and much less) there is no reason it shouldn’t be fixed nor should we have to conform our systems to work with broken code.

Yeah I have a monster PC and I crash once or twice a play session. It’s only about 50% of the time during an event. Most of the time I’m just playing with a few buddies and it happens.
As a EU player playing in NA, no lag nor crash.
agree participation should be saved even logoff or move to diff ip or switch character.
As a person with a great computer I crash all the time. This isn’t because of my computer, my internet connection, or otherwise but because the client isn’t designed to handle the kind of graphics it wants to put out during large scale events. The only solution is to basically take this amazing looking game and turn into to lowest graphic options and hope the client won’t crash OOM.
This game has long since needed a 64 bit client so these crashes won’t occur and no matter how “heavy” the lift it should be a priority if they want to keep designing large scale events in zones. Or they should keep the events small so there aren’t these kinds of issues. Up to them, but do one or the other.
And to clueless people, we are talking about the client crashing, e.g. you get the “Send error report to ArenaNet” window, not disconnects.
I haven’t had even one of these, so I guess I haven’t had even one crash. A couple of disconnects that was probably on my side and once where the whole game was dc’d for everyone, as far as I could tell, but (knock on wood) nothing like the problems the OP is describing. But I run on the lowest settings I can stand because my connection isn’t great, so there’s that.
ANet may give it to you.

This game just crashes sometimes. I figured out a long time ago that I could minimize how often it does it by making sure I had few or no other programs running with it. Seems counter intuitive, since I have plenty of ram and even with the game running there’s lots of it free, but for some reason if I have say chrome with 19 tabs open or something at the same time I’ll get crashes fairly regular. So long as I make a conscious effort to keep GW2 running by itself, I can go weeks without seeing a crash.
I came to QQ here, because I just invested a lot of time in the Dragons Stand in hope of good EP, turns out if you crash in the final cutscene of the boss, you are unable to get back in.
Please, fix this… It can’t be, that people get punished for committing.
First off I’m not dismissing anyone’s issues, just to be clear. That said:
I am running GW2 HoT on a two year old laptop with an integrated graphics chip, on questionable wifi.
I occasionally(rarely actually) get some weird lag type stuff happening where it freezes/unfreezes/freezes/unfreezes, repeatedly every second or so for up to 20 seconds or so.
I have not crashed, with the noted exception of when they did the update that screwed over most everyone and wouldn’t let them load into their map. After they patched that a few hours later, I have had no more crashes or map issues.
During events like an overpopulated Maw I get about 7 fps. The rest of the time I average 30. My ping stays consistently between 50-150ms.
Noting all of this, their might be something in specific systems that’s causing it, but it’s not due to low specs, since I have said low specs and run fine.
Something you guys miht be able to do to help is to post your basic specs here, and see if the majority of you guys have anything in common. Are you Nvidia users? Are you using an AMD processor? Do use a realtek ethernet adapter? Are you running Windows 10? Are you using Avast security?
I throw out random stuff, but sometimes it’s one thing that everyone has in common but makes no sense if you are thinking about it as a cause. You won’t know if you don’t compare. Now eventually the devs will get to doing exactly that with the logs, and data you send in, but you might be able to figure it out on your own.
