Points of Boringness, Episode X
That’s all there was for Guild Wars 1, really.
Yeah, but the power of nostalgia makes up for it.
At least, they should add mobs loot…
Yeah, but the power of nostalgia makes up for it.
Also the construction of it, where it was limited to X players or NPC assistants at a time, which gave it a factor which could make it fun. The speed of it, also, was good as it could take less than a week to blow through the four sets of missions and quests if you were focused.
That meant it was easy, almost the best way to enjoy the game, to replay it with a different character. GW2, not so much.
The heart of GW1 had to be the construction of how it worked and the approach to how you had to play it. Know as many skills as you want . . . you only got eight to toy with out in the field. Toy with your build all you like, but leave town and it’s locked. Know your role well, and you will excel.
GW2, though . . . it’s a different animal entirely. It’s closer to a traditional MMO, in that as long as you’re not in combat you can go swapping to your heart’s content rather than be locked as soon as you leave safe havens. But at the heart, it’s still really about the same thing.
“I’m going to have fun with some people I just jumped into things with. Maybe we’ll get some cool loot this time, maybe not. Hopefully it’ll be fun.”
Anything else is just window dressing.
The chests and champion bags can have loot.
See the problem here is people. There are already events in the world that people yell at you for finishing because they want to farm the mobs that spawn. Because of those people, in many event, loot has been removed. It forces people to do the event to get the reward.
This is why we can’t have nice things.

So whatever happen to play it your way? No grind, and so on quote from arena.
Can someone elaborate as to what OP is talking about? Is he talking about the new Points of Interest vids? I don’t watch those.

Two answers:
The flippant: “Haven’t you heard? It’s been long since revealed that was a hoax to get your monays!”
The actual: “The problem with ‘play it your way’ is sometimes it comes into conflict with how someone else is playing it ‘their way’, and at some point there has to be a higher authority to figure out if one of those ways needs to be put down for the sake of the community or the game.”
Which is the big reason the Queensdale Train got axed like a lamed and mute norn – not that it was profitable (it wasn’t) and not that it was grindy. It’s because it was actively hurting the community by splitting it violently, without the train even needing to be anything more than . . . existing.

Griefers aren’t allowed to play it their way either. You can play anything your way as long as it’s within the rules. Abusing people because you want to farm is against the rules. And you know, not a lot of farmers probably did it, but more and more, people felt they owned that event, when in fact they didn’t. Anet had to make changes because people don’t play nice.
What happened to play it your way was that there was too much conflict in the community to allow it to continue. It was turning people off from the game.
You can tell the maturity of a society by the thickness of its lawbooks.
You can tell the maturity of a society by the thickness of its lawbooks.
You can do it by counting rings, like with a tree. Only the rings you count are the number of links in chains binding down the “troublemakers”.
This repeating of story sure is boring. I will never repeat it unless someone asks me to do that boring thing again, so he can see it…
And yea new content 2h of living story every week wuhu! Thats why we have movies and books, They should fix bugs, and implement new things in game, so it can be fun to play, and then add a huge story that you will finish in 24h, and not 2h every week.
They have probably done the whole story and now they are putting it in game like snail, slow and steady. Lets kill a little time (1year).
I feel like LS2 reward quality isn’t as good as LS1. In LS1 u have tentacle, yellow flower, and robotic 6 arms backpieces ……… In LS2 u have bunch of champ bags, wow.

The weapons aren’t really comparable to the LS1 rewards mentioned above because of how random they are.

I don’t know anyone in my guild who hasn’t wanted and gotten one yet. They’re rare…they’re not ultra rare. People are getting them all the time.
As for the LS 1 rewards, each chapter usually had one reward, not a whole weapon set. And it was often just a back piece. I don’t know about you, but I only have one back.

I’m not sure I want a bug weapon, but I’ve opened around 40 chests already and haven’t gotten the necessary drop. That’s not a huge deal, but still a lot of chests. Time commitment wise, these seem to be more in line with the Dragon Festival weapons than the backpieces you could get from completing the LS. Actually, the weapons aren’t even LS rewards as much as they are random drops in the new zone.
As for backs, I’ve got one back per character.

I’ve got one back per character too and a whole bunch of weapons per character. Which is more the point. I mean how much did you have to farm to get all the color variations of the backpiece from the LA story arc. While 40 chests is a bit, it’s not really all that much, particularly since, unlike the first season, this content isn’t going away.

Well, the first season of LS tened to have two reward tiers. You got something for completing the basic story and something for grinding a bit/lot. LS2 gives you very little for completing the basic stuff, even less for the achievements and the only rewards are hidden behind rather stupid RNG. Out of the 40 chests I’ve opened, I’ve gotten no Dry Top -exclusive loot whatsoever. It’s bad luck, of course, but I’d be annoyed if I wanted any of the armor pieces or weapons.
But it’s not going away. It’s always going to be there. That’s a huge huge difference. And masks and goggles are both available relatively cheaply on the trading post for those who don’t get them.

Yeah .. no renewed justice on guardian for example is really bad.
Also all stacking sigills don’t work. I’m already at the point now to replace all my
precision stacking sigills against 7% crit chance, if that character doesn’t use both.

i wonder when ppl will realize this LS will bring nowhere and when anet will back on their old track….
there are thousand of game out there with a better story…and my heart bleed when i see such a beatiful game potential wasted in this way.
There is no endgame in this. OP is right , 2 month ( or more ) for development to play a 10 min story? endgame ? repeat over and over.
Anet cant satisfy players in this way…unless they bring out a new story every week.

First there are not thousands of MMOs with a better story and comparing MMOs to single player games isn’t really cool, because they’re different animals. An MMO that’s story driven is pretty rare.
Secondly many of us, including me, play this game because there is not end game. It’s one of the things the game was sold on. I guarantee you if they make this game for players like you they’ll lose a lot of players like me.

‘This LS will bring nowhere’? What? What do you mean?
I already see and hear people cheering over how wonderfull this new LS mechanic and story is, so I don’t see why in the world they would go back to how it was before.
I realy realy like the story and how it works, I realy like that we have two weeks to wait for the next episode so I can speculate and read of other speculating of what to come and what is going on. I love the community in the Living Story topics. And also Season two has been going on for 5 weeks not two months and I couldn’t play trough the first instance in ten minutes (Including reading the story).
I also like that you don’t get lot’s of loot from NPC’s in the story instances, they are not meant to be farmed they are meant for enjoyment and to challange yourself a little extra. There is enough loot on the new map.
In OP’s point of view it sound like he/she want loot loot loot otherwise the game is boring. Where have the enjoyment of replaying something for the story or just the pleasure of having succeded something challanging? Sure I get it, it is always nice to know that there is a fat reward waiting for you but hello it is not that important is it?

yeah you are right maybe its me…in the wrong forum…or maybe wrong game (i didnt want to park myselft in a Hello kitty online game). Or at least this was unexpeted….but now i start see the direction of this game.

No after I have played the new story I still enjoy the game, though go to the forums now and then, usually at mornings or at work when I can’t play GW2. In other words; I can enjoy Guild Wars 2 even when I can’t play it.
And as I said the story takes alot more than just 10 minutes and then there are some exploring, some coins to find (Not using Dulfy), events to enjoy and see what has changed in the rest of the world. Sure if you click your way through the story not following it at all, using dulfy to find everything and farming to get the new stuff asap and don’t care for what happens around the world during the LS, sure I guess the living story is short. But I don’t play this game like that.

If your game doesn’t engender some thought and speculation, if some of it doesn’t take place in your mind, then for me it’s not worth playing.
I’m sure that people who theorycraft and min max spend no time online…oh wait.
The thing is, it’s not 10 minutes of play. I’ve gotten days and days of play out of the new content. Getting through the stories. Figuring out how to get the achievements in them. Playing in Drytop, and seeing all the new events. Exploring Drytop.
Yes, I know, that’s very boring compared to raids and dungeons, because everyone wants to be a monkey that jumps through hoops to get their next shiny. It’s all there is, am I rite?

Read carefully pls. I don’t need “Loot loot loot” like you said.
So, you speak about grind? Isn’t “story repeating” kind of grind? But even worse… same dialogs… same NPC moves…a lot of NPC moves…And you Can’t skip it.
And this is was presented like “SUPER NEW FEATURE”. Who need this in 2014? This isn’t dandy/sega game. We need more mods and diversity, especialy in PvP. Not this…
P.S. Loot option was under mark “At least” – only becaue it give an illusion of progress.

Even they satisfy them, they satisfy only one type of players with this way, and yes i believe the game is wasted by people who wants to don their characters with fancy clothes. Look at the gem store and call this game is not Sims – Fantastic Age.
GARMENT WARS 2 – END GAME IS FOR PEOPLE WHO WANTS TO PLAY THE GAME NOT TO DON CHARS AND CERTAINLY WE WANT THE CLOTHES.
You have to wonder why people with such disdain for the player-base, not to mention the game, continue to associate with any part of it. Oh well, whatever floats one’s boat.
In my opinion, the option to repeat is not for you to do it straight away for achievements.
It’s so a few months or a year down the track when you get bored and want to relive some old story content, there it is for you. Oh look you can get some achieves at the same time? why not.
Am I the only one who thinks that boringness sounds stupid and that OP should’ve employed Boredom instead? Or perhaps something more clever like Points of Disinterest/Indifference.
kitten, OP, give your threads better names.

I am sorry for stating that. My bad.
Well this is how the repeating story works for me… For example we are getting closer to the release of the third move of the Hobbit movies and I am starting to get the urge to see the old hobbit movie and the last two new ones again. I don’t get loot or see no achievement reward for looking at these movies again but I get the enjoyment for looking at them again. So for GW2 that is a game and the story continues if you do well, so it is rather nice to have the opurtunity to challange myself to some new achievements during the second playthrough. So to be honest, right now I don’t feel like doing the story again but as this is now permanent I can’t say I will never play it again and when I do I can challange myself even harder. Sure there are other players who hunts achievement so they play the story over and over again untill they succed, but that is their choice. So my point is that I do not feel forced to replay the story but more rather when I do I get some small extra credit for it and I don’t need anything special becouse the story is something I do becouse I like it and I want to. If there would have been loot from the mobs wouldn’t people start to farm the story instances becouse there is quite alot mobs and you don’t have to worry about compeeting to the kill and the loot? … If I remember correct I think that happened in the Personal story at the beginning…

Howewer, I’m not against this kind of content in general. But when it presented like “Super new content” “super new feature” and when you wait for it…and…Ah. So disapointing.
I am a little offended that this thread title makes fun of ANET’s new show.
Come on, Points of Interest is perhaps one of the most interesting things they’ve done in a long time. It’s like a director’s commentary, and that’s awesome!
And I know OP wants more for clearing the instances, but… You do get easy Zephyrite picks.

But…but it is just an opinion… is it not?
Even if they do present it like that, is it so wrong for them to be proud of their own game? I mean look at the show ‘(insert country) got Talent’ and see how there are people who realy makes fools out of themselfes but in their own mind they are cool, awesome and super … Maby 90% does not agree but they are still allowed to think that what they did was awesome.
The latest feature patch in my opinion was Super new feature and the new LS mechanic is in my opinion super new feature and it has super cool new content. I have been very hyped the two recent LS updates and I havent been disapointed and I have been disapointed on some previous LS updates.

No. Why? I like almost all aspects in the game. PvP, PvE, WvW, Events, JP, etc etc
No. Why? I like almost all aspects in the game. PvP, PvE, WvW, Events, JP, etc etc
I’m not sure that’s relevant to what I said. You’re calling what someone else likes hard bread. There’s no guarantee that would you like wouldn’t be hard bread to someone else.
Ofcourse there will be some people with different opinions. But we have standarts, people wishes, forum posts, game design rules, etc etc.
Did you saw at least one post/wish like “Please! I want to repeat one episode 10 times! It will be sooo cool and interesting!”
No one asked for that in Guild Wars 1 missions either but they build an empire around it.
Actually, there was a small ARMY of players demanding “permanent” content in the second season of the Living Story. What did they THINK that was going to entail?
Truly! What else would permanent content be, but something you would/could do multiple times?
Otherwise, it might as well just be there temporarily, seems to me.
Actually, there was a small ARMY of players demanding “permanent” content in the second season of the Living Story. What did they THINK that was going to entail?
Yeah .. and they also always told us how great it was to farm the same zones in GW1 for 8 years just to find a special drop once very year .. so thats why we got the ambrite RNG stuff.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
The thing is, it may not seem like much right now. But if this stuff is coming every two weeks, the amount of repeatable content a year or two down the line is going to be off the cuff.
And the secondary bonus objectives don’t hurt either.
If you try to figure stuff out for yourself instead of running to the web it can take longer as well.

P.S. Loot option was under mark “At least” – only becaue it give an illusion of progress.
That “super new feature” you’re complaining about isn’t the story or the items. It’s the fact that you can “journal” the living story and go back and play it anytime you want. Why this is important? It’s so people who enjoy discussing the lore and the story which encompasses Tyria (both present and 250 years in the past [GW1]) can gather as much information as possible. It’s so people who may have missed something can go back and get it. Not so you can see something shinier than your new piece of armour or new weapon, while that is exciting, that isn’t the “new feature” that they were advertising.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention the fact that we have an entire new area that we can “grind” or “loot loot loot” that is now a permanent fixture of Tyria. Congrats.
Discovering one’s purpose is not as easy as it might originally appear.
