Well, this is interesting.

While unlocking skins, I found a ‘polearm’ weapon. It unlocks as a spear, but it implies there was an idea to have land-spears.

Anyone can add info to it?

From what I’ve read, the “polearm” class of weapon has been there since the beggining, probably a throwback from development when the final classes and weapons hadn’t been set in stone and were trying to other things (maybe something like the spears used by the paragon in GW1).

Yeah this has been known for a while, sadly it seems they were cut from the game before public access, and probably won’t be re-introduced.

Well, they’ve said that they would like to add new weapons eventually, so we may see it at some point. It certainly could lead to some new play styles for each profession that uses it.

Alternately, they could introduce polearms are bladed skins for staves, and then let a profession or two use staff as a melee weapon. I know at least one of the medium-armor professions could make good use of a solid beatin’ stick.

It probably exists as a weapon category for technical reasons, since a number of NPCs can use spears on land (such as krait, hylek, quaggans, centaurs, and watchknights).

That’s just name of that skin.

Essentially, if ANet converts the pre-existing spears into usable on land, I think they’d be called “Polearm” as a weapon type.

Since if you take a look at spear skins, you’d find:

• Glaives (Blade as a head, like Adamant Guard Spear or Legionnaire Spear )
• Pikes (Used to hook and pull, like Primordus Pike or “Primitive Pike”)
• Spears (Well, spear head that is used for thrusting)
• Halberds (Axe-Spear combo, your 2h axes there, but can be used for sweeping and thrusting, like Golden Wing Harpoon or Makeshift Spear )

As for usage…
Warriors would use it as two-handed weapon.
Guardians could just take it from underwater and hold it as 1 handed throwing weapon with shield.
Rangers and even Thieves maybe…

They said they would like to improve weapon diversity and release new weapon variety by allowing professions to use different existing weapons.

Eventually, and this one is even more of a pipe dream, they would like to create new weapons, but that’s most likely not going to happen in the near future (1-2 years).

I just wish they’d hurry up and make these Halberds and PoleArms to play with. Got so many RP/cosplay characters waiting to be made, with the need for those weapons.

ANY new weapon would be appreciated!
