Would you like to see many of the currently existing titles to be removed (Voulenteer, Combat Healer, etc.) – in order to promote other, harder titles as more meaningful and respectful?

No.
Taking away titles from people that have earned them is not a good idea.

I also doubt it would do anything to promote harder titles and make them more meaningful.

Er, no. Your premise is flawed. If a title’s hard to get, it’s hard to get. Its value – whatever value you want to put in it – is not diminished by titles that are easier to get.

Secondly: A title can command respect but it can’t be respectful.

Edit: After reading Crimson Clouds’ post I’d like to add that even if I had, say, A God Walking Among Mere Mortals, I’d still prefer displaying Honorary Skritt or Deer Commander or other funny titles, thank you very much.

Just voted- Nay, by the way.

I don’t understand the point of removing variety from the game. I see a lot of people using titles that might not be the most “impressive” they have, simply because the title works well with their character’s theme, aesthetic or RP background.

Perhaps I’m jaded, but even the most “impressive” titles don’t impress me- there is little in this game so far that is very difficult or requires huge amounts of dedication (and quite right, too, considering it is an inclusive casual game)*. I just pick titles that I like the sound of, and from other threads I’ve read regarding titles, other people do the same.

*Unfortunately, the most “difficult” ones to get (Like Twice Told Legend, Emperor etc) are basically just bought with gold, which can be obtained through a credit-card or through mindless, skill-less grind.

Overall, titles leave much to be desired and getting rid of a load of them isn’t going to make things any better.

No.

If you personally don’t feel a title is worth it, then that’s fine. Don’t wear it. But if my thief wants to wear the Master Carver title then that’s my business and there’s no reason to remove that title from the game. It’s a “I was there and I did that” title as well as a flavor title for my thief.

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

Why would you remove titles? I’m all in favour of more and rewarding specific challenges, but removing? No, that makes no sense to me.

In my opinion, it is not a good idea to remove any titles. Even as someone who really cares about the titles I wear and see on other people I am still against this because I know that some people use certain titles because they ‘sound good’ rather than because they are difficult to get. The silverwastes legendary mob killer titles are a good example. Although I do not see exactly why people do this instead of showing off their achievements in the game, I see no reason at all to prevent people using the titles they want.

Yes, please. Titles are supposed to be hard and rare, not everywhere like this. I would really like to see only extremely challenging contents offer titles. And please allows the player himself/herself to see his/her own name and title.

Or even better, given by how many players will be irritated by removing their titles, reward something else that is extremely fancy. Something like a floating object on the player who achieve something really awesome. For example, a floating golden crown on no.1 sPvP player’s head, a floating silver crown on no.2, a floating bronze crown on no.3, a normal floating iron helmet on no.4-no.10, something dumber on no.11-no.20. Then, something different for other leaderboards. Finally, some extremely challenging contents that awards something else, maybe like an aura or whatever.

But first, we need extremely challenging contents. EXTREMELY. So, those who complete it really deserved the cosmetic effects.

Some people, like me, simply don’t care about that stuff. Different strokes for different folks, I presume. I’ve never understood people who need to show off their achievements. I mean, just displaying a title or wearing flashy armour, sure, but feeling the need to parade it around infront of the main bank of the game so that people praise you for it? Sheesh.

Different crowds, neighbour. One factions wants the game to be more difficult, the other wants it to be easier.

No thank you.

I’m not opposed to adding new, harder to obtain titles, but that’s no reason to remove the existing ones.

Just because title A is easy to get, that should in no way impact the value of title B which is hard to get. They are two totally different things, with two completely separate sets of requirements.

As for titles and respect….. just lol. Those two words just don’t belong in the same sentence together. Even in GW1, when titles were a pain in the kitten to get, rarely did anyone actually respect them. Too many people are too quick to simply see it, and dismiss it as a ‘bought’ achievement, even well before all the assorted shortcuts came out. It’s the same issue we have with the current legendary weapons in GW2.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Maybe I didn’t sound very nice when I wrote that. Sorry about that. What my point was was that what I, personally, think titles are for is to show off what you have accomplished in game to other people, the same way I like to show legendaries, expensive skins or minis such as the liadri. They are all part of the look you may have worked extremely hard for and would like other people to see. However, I still believe that the easy titles should be kept because like the cheap skins, some people use like a lot.

Oh, no, you didn’t sound rude or anything. I just attempted to explain why certain people prefer cosmetics over achievements and that I don’t understand bragging. I hope I didn’t come across as cross. Aheh. I’ll go stand in the corner now.

As I said, I’m perfectly okay with hard content, even content that I won’t ever manage to finish, and people getting a visible reward for it. I get that.

Like the rest, I just don’t see the point in removing titles. It actually will not raise the value of the remaining titles. Hard-to-get titles will be just as hard to get whether the easier titles are there or not. And festival-gained titles are a nice way of saying “I was there.” No more than that – they carry no inherent prestige. It’s just that they were there for that event.

So, no. They should not remove any titles, ever. The titles don’t even DO anything; they are as cosmetic as armor skins or outfits.

Removing existing titles makes absolutely no sense. If anything, having lame ‘ez mode’ titles makes the challenging ones more prestigious by default.

Personally, titles are entirely cosmetic and add a bit of flavour. It’s not about how they were earned, but how well they suits each character. E.g. my nngi is dressed like a military dictator so I let him rock ‘The Emperor’ because it suits him. My necro gets ‘Reaper’, Thief is ‘Mercenary’ and so on.

I think the poll speaks for itself. 95% leaning towards no.

If anything I’d like a “golden title text” implemented like they have in Tera. For certain titles that are deemed “prestigious”, the text of the title is in gold, and much easier to see.

No, when I pick a title, I pick one that suits my character, not based on the difficulty of it. I like many tittles, in fact there should be more.

Not all the titles are about prestige. Some are about self-expression too, such as having an Honorary Skritt title to show your love for Skritt.
