[Poll] New classes
Please, no more classes with pets or clones since Arenanet can’t make them work correctly.
Anyway, probably a heavy armor fighter will be the next class since we only have two. Maybe a sort of Dreadknight, a warrior with curses to weaken the enemies and that can use fear.
But personally I’ve always been curious about the Chronomancer that was showed in some artworks before Eye of the North was released, would be nice to know what kind of skills he had and if they can use that idea in GW2.
10
Military officer: summons adds like an engineer summons turrets, which can be soldier/guard/medic/artillery(aoe).
11
Chronomancer: casts time based spells such as removing boons from enemies, conditions from allies, and granting swiftness and faster attacks plus adding weakening effects to foes. Fast moving caster class with teleports and a bias towards ranged weapons.
12
Commando:
A bard is not a glorified lute player, that’s a minstrel, who were English.
The word ‘bard’ is Celtic, and they were were warrior poets and the greatest and oldest heroes of celtic mythology. Read stories like Finn McCool (yes that’s a real Irish name), or the epic of Cuchulainn, who is a bard himself and has several bardic companions throughout the story, including two female rival companions Scathach and Aife.
I would love to see a bard class that is actually a bard. I would not love to see another BS D&D ‘we don’t do our research’ minstrel class that is mislabeled as a bard.
None of those would fill a unique slot. Some are even nearly identical to what already exists.

It’s because every class can do a role to a minimum extent and that’s been purposefully designed that way. I STRONGLY believe we won’t see a class in the near future, it’s the kind of thing that no matter how many people ask for, it’s not simply given out.
1: We already have this and they wear medium armor. Adjust your traits and skills on a Ranger.
2: Why??? Only if the AI was modified to attack Bards first. Standard tactic was to kill the drummer boy first to throw off the other army’s morale and cadence.
3: Again, we already have this. Adjust your traits and skills on a Necromancer.
4: Maybe, but I’m with the others in that ANet needs to fix the pet/minion AI first.
5: You do know that a Doppelganger is a type of ghost/spirit? Other than that you are asking for Animorphs. Let’s go Harry Potter-ish and call them Animagus. We already have this in the Norn and during certain events.
6: Did you mean parries? Anyway, we already have this. Adjust your traits and skills on a Thief with dual daggers.
7: A warlock would be what you got by smashing the Elementalist, Mesmer, and Necromancer together and only using the pure offensive skills from each profession. Might be neat, but would become Zerker OP pretty fast.
8: Already have this. Use a Warrior Zerker build.
9: Aside from the heavier armor, adjust your traits and skills to use a defensive Earth build on an Elementalist.

I had written a several page surmise of three classes I wanted to suggest before tossing the lot in the shredder. I was effectively told by a dev on another game title that offering suggestions to any large company was counter productive since the writer might try and file a copyright claim were any of his/her ideas to be implemented.
However:
10: I surmised a Man At Arms class. A traditional Man At Arms was usually an officer, almost certainly a professional warrior, who was highly skilled with many weapons and employed a retinue. Of course in GW2, he would not be mounted. But the general idea revolved around his retinue as some of his utility skills, similar to the kits employed by engineers.
These would come in various flavours:
Medic would be a heal skill, and would summon an npc medic, similar to ranger’s Search & Rescue. F1 whilst this was employed would raise a single Defeated player on a long CD, maybe 90 mins, whilst putting the self-heal skill on a 30s cooldown (where it would normally be 20s).
Guardsman would stay close to the summoner, taking part of the damage which the player character would normally receive. Maybe 20% damage redux. The F skill for this would be 50% damage redux for 8s, perhaps with retaliation, putting the Guardsman on kitten CD rather than its usual 30s.
Swordsman would of course melee attack an opponent, changing target with the summoners tabbed target, whilst it was standing. F skill would be a heavy strike, which would immediately de-summon the Swordsman and put it on a 40s CD instead of its usual 25s.
Rifleman would be similar to Swordsman but ranged, and F skill would stun and bleed the opponent as well as de-summoning the Rifleman.
Artilleryman would summon a soldier who was static with a weapon similar to a Charrzooka. This would attack tabbed opponents with an AoE weapon, weaker than Rifleman but with a 300 radius. F skill would cause knockdown and blind on opponents as well as, of course, de-summoning the Artilleryman.
Other skills would be focused on support of allies, giving boons and such, as well as a form of shout for condition removals.
Weapons would be slightly more restricted than Soldier, and due to the summoning nature of the Man At Arms, would be less powerful in offensive skills.
12: This was a joke. See the GW2 Commando April Fools joke
Ehmm, why not:
- Dervish?
- Paragon?
- Ritualist?
- Monk?
The most likely classes to come into play would be the ones that already existed in gw1(Paragon/ritualist/dervish). However some have been incorporated into current classes like paragon/guardian.
CD→SoS→BG→ET→DB→JQ→SoS→
Mag→JQ→SoS→JQ→TC→FA→DB→FA→Mag→TC→KN
We only need Dervish to make this game awesome.
Ritualist! This game needs more AI characters.
In all seriousness. I hope they will not add any new class. I hope they will balance what we have now, and maybe add few new skills and traits.
And why on earth is golemancer NOT up there? No one else finds it ridiculous that a class which was represented among the main characters of the game’s principal storyline (Snaff of Destiny’s Edge) is not available in game?
(edited by Conncept.7638)
I want a chronomancer and a matschmagier.
Three new classes, one to replace ranger, one to replace engi and one to replace necro.
(Bumping thread)
How about a new heavy class, like say a Mage Knight (or whatever the general term is). I’m thinking gameplay wise, it would play like a Guardian but with more offensive magic then defensive. the weapons it uses would include a Sword (main and off-hand), Greatsword, Shield, Focus, Hammer, Scepter, and Staff. I haven’t really figured out what many of the weapons would do, but the scepter would have a longer range and shoot magic bolts faster (compared to the Guardian’s scepter), and the staff would have a beam attack similar to the mesmer’s GS attack.
If how this class might fit into the overall lore in the game is an issue for anyone, we could say that the Asura created the new class and have been developing it for years in secret. It’d be like how the Charr, in a way, created the Engineer class with their industrial revolution.
what’s the point of new classes when existing classes have such terrible intra-class balance? entire weapons, traitlines and utility types continue to go virtually unused in wvw/pvp.
eg: Ele signets, glyphs, conjures are all embarrassingly badly underpowered relative to cantrips & arcane utilities.
It’s not just intra-class balance that sucks either, eg: WVW has had the same GWEN meta since release, with no sign of ever changing.

Either every race gets a race specific class, or none do.
What classes would you like them to be implemented in the future between the following ?
1
Tamer : light armor , takes advantage of the beasts that fight in his place, he mostly defensive spells to cure his beasts .2
Bard: light armor , playing musical instruments to give boons and conditions3
Blood Mage : light armor : Inflicts damage to itself to its enemies to inflict more4
Summoner : light armor , can summon more creatures to fight for him ( there is already the necromancer but the summoner would be targeted more on creatures )5
Doppelganger : medium armor , similar to the ranger but instead of domesticating animals it takes the form6
Duelist : medium armor , his style is made of parades and countermoves7
Warlock : medium armor , a cross between a magician and a warrior8
Berserker : heavy armor , he fights with fury and therefore relies entirely on the attack and it is unstoppable , use only 2 weapons in the hands and has a poor defense9
Magician combat : heavy armor , like the Elementalist but sacrifices his attack power for defense
@ crossed out, no more pet oriented classes please.
I would be interested in seeing what a blood mage looks like. Specifically if it looks like it will be a must have to wear gear with vitality, but you still have the damage to make up for it since you’re spending life.
Would def be a change from the primary zerker choices.
Chronomancers, Ritualists, Kodan, and Largos I’d like to see.
Just to echo what a few have already said, No more pet classes, Anet simply can’t do them, its beyond there ability…
I would like a bard class, that plays a instrument to give boons and remove conditions. A alternative to the ever present Guardian in the group, which has been a no brainer since GW2 was released.
A warlock sounds fun too, would love to play a mage that did not die in 0.005 sec like the current Ele does!
i would like the 1337 class, dualwield gs, breathe agent orange, fart napalm and lazor eyes
jk, i couldnt resist
anet should fix existing classes before releasing broken new ones, tbh anet is too lazy anyways
My opinion may not be a popular one but I think we don’t need any new classes. (At least not before existing balancing issues and class-breaking bugs get fixed.)
rather than a new class, I prefer that our character learn fighting techniques bare hands.
and that we Mettes all weapons availability for all classes.
imagine that as soon as one is unarmed, we go directly to the fight improved default with compétances “hands” Elementalist, Mesmer, Ranger, Rogue, Warrior, guardian, or engineer.
of improved default cestus. whose points can climb.
(edited by Louveepine.7630)
I like all of these. I’d add Druid though, coz shapeshifters own.

Geez. What is it with people wanting another heavy proffesion? The game does not need anymore.
Why do you care so much if any class added to the game will use full zerk and the most dps melee weapon at his disposal? A new class will only mean other ways to get the same buffs and debuffs on the same mobs. Another class will add only to the graphic/cosmetic aspect of the game while changing nothing to its core. I prefer a polished to the system. First they need to fix the lack of class variety with the classes we already have. Currently 8 classes have only 1 rol to fit. After they polished that, they can start thinking what a new class can add to the game.
martial artist, hand to hand fighter/bo staff/spiritual, different sequences of skills for greater advantages, reactive playstyle, counters, not an escape artist.
marksman, long range/ and close range tactical fighter, best used with preparation and careful management of resources. Best used when thinking ahead/has a plan.

new classes can give a totally different feeling and way of playing, doesnt really matter if they do the same thing if the method is totally different.
some people build toys by hand carving, and some make designs on a computer and output it to a machine. Still the professionals who do this have different skill sets, and enjoy different things, some may enjoy doing one and not doing the other
I always wants something along the lines of the opposite of guardians. A Heavy-armor based Darkness magic using warrior basically.
Ehmm, why not:
- Dervish
- Paragon
- Ritualist
- Monk
I like it. I do wonder what armor classes they would get in GW2.
Paragon seems like the obvious Heavy. I guess the other would depend on their play style. It would be nice to see these GW1 favorites make a return though.
I want a vanguard class like the ones in mass effect that charges to enemies with shotguns….
A new class would most likely be heavy armor since there are 3 light, 3 medium, and 2 heavy currently. I can see a new class having heavy armor with medium HP as the obvious choice.
Of your list, I don’t like any of them honestly and think that most of them are simply small niche roles or what other classes already have/should have.
Of the other guild wars classes I can see being added, either a Paragon or Dervish type class could be introduced fitting the missing Armor/HP role. Or perhaps a hybrid class which uses Pikes (2H), Scythes (2H), Javelins (dual wield), Dagger, Pistol, Shield, Sword.
Pikes could deliver slow but massive damage while being able to stay out of traditional melee range. Ie: While still being melee, I could hit a warrior, but the warrior could not hit me unless he closes the distance. Could also have quick moves like staking your pike and using it as an anchor to deliver a quick kick.
Scythes would be multi target sweeping and cleave type weapons with access to CCs like sweeping the legs of the enemy (knockdown + cripple) and access to things like torment and bleeding.
Javelins would be hybrid melee and ranged weapons and could be equipped either main hand, off hand or both. Autoattack would be range with the other skills being a mix.
Emphasis for party help could be a mix between Warrior and Guardian. Where the warrior delivers mostly offensive buffs and guardian mostly defensive buffs and healing. The Paragon/Dervish could focus on providing a mix of both. For example, the guardian can apply a multitude of retaliation, stability, aegis, and regen. Warriors give lots of might and fury. This class could focus on protection, fury, and vigor.
F1, F2, F3, F4 could be different avatars which you can activate and gives you different effects. Ie: Zerk mode (Balthazar), Condi cleanse and heals (Dwayna), Defense mode (Melandru), Conditions and CC mode (Lyssa). Kind of like Death Shroud but active for less time and less skills. (ie: 3 per avatar)
I could probably go on ages with making this stuff up…
King Arcturus X~80 Ranger | Suki Serra~80 Thief | Count Charon~80 Necro | Regulus Leo~80 Ele
HoD since launch
I see Paragon being a more likely profession than Dervish. Paragon is a Heavy armor prof and Dervish is a Light armor prof. I would love to see Paragons added with Javelins(spears) and a shield just like in Nightfall. They could also bring their Echos and Chants. Problem is it seems like ANet merged the Paragon into the Warrior excluding the Javelins and Echos & Chants.

1 – Tamer is too much like a Ranger.
2 – Bard would be awesome, but I don’t see it happening. The one bard character in the game is a punchline and all characters have access to play musics with the gemstore items.
3 – Blood mage is too much like a necro, which already has access to these mechanics, even if they aren’t heavily utilized.
4 – Summoner is too similar to necro.
5 – Doppelganger could work, but that’s kind of a weird name for a shapeshifter.
6 – Duelist would never work with a heavy emphasis on countermoves and if there wasn’t enough emphasis on this, then there’s not enough difference from other classes that have counterattacks.
7 – Warlock sounds like a D/X ele or necro with medium armor. If you moved to have more of a melee focus, then it’s a Guardian with medium armor.
8 – Berserker sounds like a warrior…or a nerfed version of a warrior.
9 – Magician sounds like a bunker ele.
Sorry to shoot everything down, but I don’t see a viable, fully fleshed profession coming from any of these.
(edited by Dahkeus.8243)
No offense intended.
1 – The ranger is a beastmaster. It should be improved to play more like one, IMO.
2 – This isn’t Final Fantasy. Ok, there was a paragon in GW1, but there’s a reason it was poor and didn’t carry over.
3 – This isn’t World of Warcraft. Or Final Fantasy (Dark Knight). A profession won’t survive in GW2 by shooting its own foot. Especially in PvP.
4 – More Final Fantasy.
5 – No, that’s similar to norn, and it would weaken their lore. As it is norn should be able to take form for much longer periods.
6 – Can’t build a profession or balance the game around it.
7 – A guardian.
8 – A worse warrior.
9 – Seems pointless. Equally important is there are no professions focused on defense. There’s damage, control and support. Still, you’d be better off with a more powerful ele or more supportive guardian.
Thought you were onto something with #6, for some reason I thought of an unarmed martial artist (“monk”) class. That would actually be interesting, but in as much as it would be brill coming out of Cantha, there’s just as much possibility of getting that profession as there is getting Cantha in this game.

I agree, I have 7 characters, 5 80 full equip, and having preferences among them means there is a difference BUT, I believe that the game is pretty flat right now and the difference between classes it is still not enough for a game of this kind. Not gonna get deep on arguing on the current meta, but I think that before thinking on a new class, the core design should put more focus on what each of the current classes brings to the table and empower different play styles without necessarily nerfing what we have now.
Mime- Able to copy the skills of players or enemies around it. An example is: if they are next to a ranger they have ranger skills, next to a thief they get thief skills. Only can use skills from one class at a time and cannot copy skills from other mimes .
I want only Dervish
I want only Dervish
Impossible the skills the dervish used dealt with the 6 gods and only humans believe in the 6 gods. It would be interesting however for each race to have its own class.
Swashbuckler.
Tons of active parry, riposte, and block skills. A melee character essentially that requires very precise timing and decision making on both offense and defense, that has high burst potential when played correctly.

Logged in real quick to tell you that IN MY OPINION…. I hate every single one of these “PROFESSION” suggestions.
I would personally love a druid class. Love the shapeshifting idea. It works.
1
Tamer
= This would make the entire pet mechanic of Rangers redunant.
2
Bard
= This is essentially a boon Guardian.
3
Blood Mage
= Similar concept to Necromancer. If anything it should be new skills added to the Necro, not an entire new class concept.
4
Summoner
Would make Necro minions redundant. If anything update those rather than new class.
5
Doppelganger
This is essentially just taking Norn shapeshifting and turning it into a class. Though it is an interesting idea and if done well then I could get behind it. Needs a new name though, maybe something like ‘Feralite’
6
Duelist
Interesting but sounds a bit like Mesmer concept.
7
Warlock
cross between magician and warrior = Guardian
8
Berserker
This is literally a zerker warrior.
9
Magician
Is this not just an elementalist with a defensive spec?
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast

Either every race gets a race specific class, or none do.
Who says golemancer has to be race specific? The asura are best known for it but have never been the only race with technomagical constructs, the dwarves actually have older constructs than asura, and the Charr have the Effigies which are at least just as old, and now humans have entered the mix with the Watchknights. Obviously the Asura are not the only ones capable of making golems.
Plus, even if they were, we have Charr Elementalists, Necromancers, Mesmers, and Guardians; Norn and Sylvari Engineers, and Asuran Warriors and Rangers. Obviously culture is not so rigid among the playable races as to prevent any race and class combination.

Bard: light armor , playing musical instruments to give boons and conditions
‘Come hither, oh ravenous beastie, that i may assail you with my lute – fear my polka!’
Yep, we need this class NOW.
Time Warden
Heavy Armor
Weapons:
Two Handed
Staff
Greatsword
Hammer
Spear
Trident
Main Hand
Scepter
Mace
Sword
Off Hand
Focus
Mace
Sword
Shield
Profession Core:
The Time Warden focuses on speeding up and slowing down time. Abilities would give quickness to allies, reduce cooldowns of allies’ abilities, and increase time between enemies’ attacks. The profession focuses on direct damage while applying weakness and other non damage conditions on enemies.
Skill Examples:
Time Rip – Greatsword ability #5
Create a rip through time. All damage you deal for the next 3 seconds is dealt again in 6 seconds at a reduced rate. Reduced rate is 50%
Time Travel – Utility Skill
Travel. Travel through time. Return to the location you were 5 seconds ago. Your health, skills, conditions, and boons also reset to that point in time. You are fatigued and all movement and skills are reduced to 50% the normal rate for 3 seconds.
Time Delay – Elite Skill
Create a time rift on the target’s location that delays damage dealt by the enemies’ attacks by 2 seconds. Lasts 10 seconds.
Pure Traveler – Major Trait in the Rift Line
Using a Travel utility skill cleanses conditions.
I know balancing a profession like this would be hell, but still something I would like to see and think would be fun.
