So there are a lot of references i found and some i missed within the game, but i really love how you stumble upon it. And well, it kind of something i can’t let go of – the many references that were implanted and i tend to believe in an almost fanatic way that any reference you find within the game is on purpose – memes, from books, quotes, movie you name it. I believe it’s not an accident ever.

What references did you find in the game?

Last night, I was chased around Ebonhawke by several angry chickens. I screamed like a little girl and ran away, just like I did the first time I was attacked by a flock of chickens in Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

‘’ The Prestige ’’ skill is a pretty obvious one.

I haven’t noticed anything else though, it’s out there I’m sure but I’ve never been good at noticing those things, I’m too detached from pop culture to notice it.

Thieves have a skill that rolls backward and restores initiative. It is appropriately called “Roll for Initiative”.

I chuckled. (This is a D&D reference, for those less nerdy players out there.)

There’s a dynamic event in Plains of Ashford where the dialogue is a reference to Ghostbusters. Also, the achievement for slaying ghosts is a more obvious reference.

speaking of names you reminded about NPC names
i found Sawyer – pretty sure the reference is to Tom Sawyer
and i found AppleJack – either someone in Anet is a brony or he\she really likes the beverage. i tried finding more hints with this NPC like who is miss T but nothing. (this npc is in the Gandarian fields)

This is probably a vary obscure reference or just a coincidence but, the level 40 yellow heavy armor looks exactly like the armor the characters in the comic book series Arcanum wear. If I had a picture of my character right now I could show it, but I specifically colored it to mimic one of my favorite characters from the book.

The five golems in Metrica Province coming together to form M.E.T.A. Golem.

I saw some claim it’s a Voltron reference and that could be. I’ve never seen Voltron but I’m familiar enough with it to know where they are coming from. But the Asura basically recreate the “Go Planet!” call (though out of order) from Captain Planet in their own technobabbly way. HRT-777…lol.

One of the early Asura quests has you fighting mechanical golems in “The Funhouse”. During the fight, one of these golems says “Why was I programmed to feel pain?!”

This is a line from an old Simpson’s episode where a science lab gets attacked and a robot catches fire. When I heard this in game I actually laughed out loud. Awesome little detail!

One that caught me totally by surprise was in the pirate caves in Bloodtide Coast.

I found 2 comic (to me, at least) Reference in the Sylvari area. The dynamic quest is to talk to 4 or 5 golems. In the discussion tree there is a item that says “Input: Zeppelin” To which, the response from the golem is “Made of Lead”. (Yes, Led Zeppelin the band). A different golem has a different input about “Cake”, to which the response is something to the effect of “Dubious about your motives.” (This one is a BIT more tangenty. As people who have played Portal know, the evil computer is constantly using Yummy Chocolate Cake as a motivation for you to complete all the deadly experiments.) There have been a couple others, but nothing that jumps up in my mind.

One of the robots in the Asura tutorial instance is called “OVR-9000”.
“It’s over 9000!”

I also remember seeing a Charr cub ask “Can I has cheese meat?”
“I can has cheese burger?”

You won’t get this joke unless you played GW1:
One of the Warrior healing skills in GW2 is called “Mending”.

Explanation:
In GW1 you can pick a secondary Profession and many players went with Warrior/Monk, thinking they’d be like paladins.

In reality Monk skills need lots of energy and Warriors have very little of it.
It’s a horrible combo unless you only take one or two low cost Monk skills.
People call them “Wammos”. (Warrior/Monk)

One of the worst Monk skills is called “Mending”.
It makes your Energy regen slower but makes your life slowly regenerate.
It sounds good on paper but it’s actually extremely ineffective and it’s a bad skill to this day.
Many Wammos use it and get made fun of for it.
Of course GW2’s mending is actually meant to be good.

Also many of the Traits for all Professions are named after GW1 skills.
I think I also saw some Enviromental weapons during my personal storyline use a few skill icons from GW1.
