I see have spanish language on game, but dont have portuguese, i think have more brazilians/portuguese ppl than spanish, everytime i walk on maps or play spvp i find a brazilian, im at some brazilians guild that 100+ ppl online all the time, a lot of ppl divulgate Guild Wars 2 on brazilians facebook groups. I called some friends to play but they got mad wit full english game cuz they dont know nothing about english, and they quit…
So please i think we deserve at least subtitles in portuguese…. We are much ppl, our contry dont have good investiment in education, a lot of ppl dont know nothing about english. We dont have a good mmo to play, but a lot of ppl just recomend Guild Wars 2, we know about ping too, but we still keep playing… Sooo pleeease portuguese/brazilian language, i think its not veery hard this =/, and will make a lot of ppl excited !

You see a lot of fellow countrymen because the megaserver system tries to put you with people close to you or who speak your language. In my case, at least 50% of the people I met in the game speak latin-american spanish.

That said, I think Brazil is a gigantic country that truly deserves proper localization. Although… localization is a mixed blessing. I really, really hate to play the game in spanish. There is too much that get lost in the translation.

Like what? One can choose the language in options and anyway this game is one of the finest examples of good translations to Spanish I can remember.

Not learning English today is like not learning to eat. If you want comprehend the internet with everything around it, learn English.

Also, there are a lot more Spanish speaking people out there. Whole Meso and Southamerica is speaking it (excl. Brazil ofc).

- Almost every single english pun is untranslatable without a HUGE effort on localization. The translation on GW2 is really good, but not that good, IMO. Even with the best translation, the original pun is usually lost in favor of a more understandable equivalent.

- Localization implies to recognize differences even between places that speak the same language… which is specially noticeable with spanish, because spanish speaking countries use incredibly different idioms and words. Anything that sounds good for a Spain native will not sound that good for people raised in Argentina. Any of those two translations would be baffling for a Mexican… and so on.

- Have you noticed each culture in the game have a different accent? Within english, those accents make references to different english-speaking cultural tropes that really add layers of interest to the game. Like Sylvari speaking “Shakespearian” english. This kind of detail tend to get lost in translation too.

- I could continue with more examples, from pop culture references to rhymes and alliterations… but you get the idea. The point is, no matter how perfect a translation is, it is never the same as the original. In rare cases, it could be better, but that is exceptional.

Between the alternatives of having something comfy translated to my “native” language or learning the original language of said something, the latter alternative will always be better. Since English is so useful and necessary today, learning it becomes an even better choice. (It is also and easy to learn language. Spanish is way harder)

Every NCSoft game I’ve seen released in NA/EU that is run by NCSoft only support English, Spanish, French and German. Now I’ve seen other languages supported but only when NCSoft licenses the game to 3rd parties.

I, like every other who plays, look for games that are translated or have at least subtitles in my language. Brazil is 4th largest consumer of games worldwide, not giving more ppl here ways to play and understand the game is quite a loss of money for arenanet. I’m not a super businessman, but I’m a gamer, with gamer friends and all speaks the same. I can’t remember how many times I played something just because it’s translated.

At a minimum the subtitles should exist. Yet learning english is still a better option for most individuals. It opens so many doors, its incredible.
