Possible to hide online status from Guild?
Yeah, as a guild leader I’m dead against 100% rep required myself. I mean, if you wish to enforce it for your guild, do so, but I prefer my guild mates to choose to rep my guild, not be forced to.
Also – I really love the irony of some of the guild adverts out there, such as saying:
“Are you looking for a guild ad that starts with a question? [Dis Gild] is a friendly, casual guild. Dungeons | Fractals | PvX | WvW | TS3 | PvP | Raids | 100% Rep. "
In my opinion, I don’t think you can label yourself as friendly or casual whilst enforcing 100% rep rule!
Let’s start with your original question:
Is it possible to hide online status from a guild?
No, it’s not possible.
The closest you can get is to go invisible while repping another guild (if you are still repping, then you could be spotted as a yellow dot on the map and mousing over the dot will show your account name, if not logged on).
Regarding repping WvW guilds while in WvW. There are a bunch of reasons why some WvW guilds want you to rep them whenever you’re in WvW, even if they don’t care when you’re in PvE or PvP. Some of them are good reasons and some… not so much. Regardless, that’s something that is up to the guild’s leadership to decide, not the individual member.
However, that said, I’m like you — sometimes I’m just doing my own thing. So whenever I’m in a WvW guild that has stated a policy, I let the GL know how I like to roll, & that’s always been productive. Although, of course, I didn’t always remain, depending on the circumstances.
tl;dr you can’t go invisible to just one guild, but you can discuss your preferences with the GL to see if you can work out a compromise that suits your needs and those of the guild’s.
My PvE guild has a no rep required policy for anyone not in leadership. Some of my members have reasons for repping other guilds, and they’ve worked it out with me so that, when I see they aren’t repping, I know they’re doing stuff with their WvW guild, PvP guild, a friend’s guild they’ve been in forever, etc.
However, there are those who never seem to rep. It would be really helpful if prospective members said up front that they’d only be repping my guild for guild events. I could live with that, as long as they actually participated . But joining and then rarely repping, or even participating, without saying why makes me wonder why they even joined in the first place.
It has already cost me one new guild member who left because no one was repping when he was online and no one would talk to him in guild chat.
It’s a really fine line to manage; I don’t want to have a 100% rep guild, but I do want my members to rep as often as possible without feeling pressured to do so.
I think the best thing to do is let the GL know up front that you rep your friend’s guild by default and would only be repping the WvW guild when they’re doing content together. If the GL is okay with that, then you’re good to go. Just do your best to actually participate so that you’re seen as a (somewhat) active member.
unless you are invited to the wvw guild without being mentioned that you are required to rep in wvw, the guild is at fault
however, if the guild did mentioned you are required to rep their guild while in wvw, i will not feel a single bit sympathy towards you. do not find faults with something you, yourself agree on.
either way, it is not possible to appear offline in one guild while online in another. good luck.

I didn’t write back, maybe I should have explaining that I was on my own, not in his squad so at that time I felt it was my choice who I represented.
Yes, you should have responded back. A little communication goes a long way and you might have been able to smooth out some of the misunderstandings.
Before you join any guild, have a chat with the leadership about expectations. As a courtesy, I let my main/PvE guild know when I’m switching over to another guild, for example, “going to rep X guild for now while we do WvW.” Guilds are still somewhat harsh about rep requirements because new members are turned off by a roster full of non-reppers.
You can set yourself to invisible status, which will make you appear offline and you will not have access to any guild chat. You can join a party with friends and use party chat (or any chat channel besides guild) while invisible. Be mindful of the fact that friends can hover over your name on their friends list and see your location while you’re offline (they finally removed this from the guild roster but it is still happening on the friends list).
The owner of the WvW guild started whispering to me saying I should be representing them because I was in WvW. Threatening to kick me from the guild for doing WvW and not representing, saying he was asking me nicely(threatening to kick is a very nice way to ask.)
I don’t do threats.
Ever.
I’m no one’s whipping girl.
I got kicked from a PvE guild for not 100% repping.
Got a whisper saying it’s a 100% rep guild, and if I don’t, I’d be kicked.
Seriously. A PvE guild, one which I joined randomly by doing a dungeon run.
Just join a WvW guild that will understand that you may not always represent it and especially if you’re doing something solo. Besides, is there even a point to represent anymore?
Cool, I suppose it makes sense to at the time of joining saying I’d represent my friend’s guild by default and them if participating in an event with them. Does also seem better that people rep because they want to not because they have to.
I could have replied saying what I said here, I wasn’t in the squad with them even though I was in WvW, was on my own so wanted to represent my default guild. If I was leading a guild I’d have a hard time argueing against that unless it was a 100% rep guild. Pretty sure it was along the lines of “Rep if possible especially in WvW.” If possible, not really possible if representing another guild. That was on the “Message of the Day.” They didn’t say anything about representing when I was invited.
I suppose I could have told him when I joined, I’d represent when I’m in his squad or party(if he was arranging to do something with the guild in PvE or PvP I’d happily represent if I was part of it, then go back to default after.) the rest of the time I’d be with my default guild wherever I am in the game. Then he could decide if he wanted me in his guild.
I would say it isn’t a very good attitude to threaten to kick for not repping when I’m in a certain part of the game, for that matter making threats kind of makes me less likely to want to do him the favour of representing.
I think hiding online status from the guild panel would be a nice feature to have. Maybe if we had the options “Show” “Hide Location” “Appear Offline” If GLs didn’t know you were not representing in WvW or wherever the focus of the guild is there wouldn’t be the chance to breath down your neck about it.
What are the reasons they have for wanting you to rep any time you are in WvW? I’ve seen some camps the guards are representing a guild(or at least have the initials after the name “Guard” like players have after their name.) is that a guild upgrade that if a representing guild member takes the camp the guards will represent the guild not just the server? Are things like that the reasons they want you to represent any time in WvW?
