It is now apparent that the ArenaNet of today is not the same entity that created Guild Wars. Gone is the company that put the user experience over an endless gear stat treadmill. It has been replaced with a company that operates with the vision of NCSoft, where power creep and the RNG determine the end-game experience.

Many of us came to this game hoping for a proper heir to the original Guild Wars, and many of us will leave, unfulfilled, now that this new ArenaNet’s vision for the future has been made public.

Perhaps the most unintentionally ironic statement on these forums.

Do we not? They abandoned their vision for the game and lied to players. All of this criticism is a predictable response.

its a big game, it needs a big wallet, and they re “giving it” to you for 60$.

but the marketing / hype…
oh god.

you know, really, i enjoy this game. i love this game.
but i’m disgusted by the blabla/lies they pulled of, and it makes me hate the game a bit more, out of disrespect.
ok that sounded harsh. but its a little bit like that

Sigh, another guy not doing research. Why is everyone getting worked up about trinkets.I coudn’t care less.If theres something new for me to get ill do it.And I could totaly see how this is NOT gear progression(Theres nothing to progress). In GW1 the Mursaat had an ability called Spectral Agony and you had to get infused armor to fight them. Its a story related mechanic and I welcome it!

Another unintentionally ironic post, as you claim I didn’t do any research and then go on to demonstrate that you have no knowledge of the issue. Bravo, sir.

In the recent blog post, it was stated quite clearly that Ascended items would eventually be made available for every gear slot, not just rings/back items.

Yes I know they will do that, but you’re raging because of a comment from a developer about future patches. Also a note, you can do the new dungeon without Ascendant gear so everyone can do it.If you have Ascendant gear itll be a bit easier.I swear people overreact.

Where exactly were you lied to…from what I can see, this warning has been quite public since last July…

“Take risks
“Let’s try it.” You hope to hear that phrase at the end of a meeting, especially if that meeting was contentious, or if the idea discussed is new and radical.

Imagine a playground full of kids playing. At its best, playing is making mistakes in a safe environment and learning from those mistakes in a way that encourages growth. Trying out new ideas or making drastic changes is the way we as designers get to play with the game. It’s where we slip and fall, scrape our knees, and otherwise monkey around on the jungle gym. While we don’t try out every idea, we use our collective experience to get a sense for what has promise—what we should follow down the rabbit hole. We look at where our ideas break, how they break, and why they break. You can see this in how we redesigned the sylvari, or in how we have developed the professions. They’ve all undergone quite a bit of transformation over the last few years as we have tried out different approaches and learned from those very playful experiences.

Purpose: To reinforce our general design culture of iteration. You can’t innovate in an environment that is averse to failure. You must embrace the risk of making mistakes. At the end of the day, if something doesn’t quite turn out the way you wanted, it’s not failing, it’s playing—and you grow for having done it."
