Southsun Cove seems to get ignored by most players because they don’t think they can
earn enough money. If you farm the area between point lion and point pride you should get the following loot:

• Fine and masterwork items
• Vial of Potent blood
• Vial Of Powerful Blood
• Karka Shells
• Various trophys

The Powerful blood and Potent blood drop quite often so you can farm there for around half an hour and earn a decent amount of gold. (around 1.6g) Its very easy to do and can be solo’d or done in a big group. Hope this helps some poeple.

Powerful blood is on par with prices of ectos at the moment…I hope more people read this so they go down in price.

The issue isn’t that the prices will lower due to more people farming – Anet will see this and nerf the drop rate into oblivion.

I think the fancy drakes drop them. I know I got one as a drop there, I just don’t recall where.

It’s kinda funny that the big thing about karka are there shells that are supposed to get harder, yet they don’t drop scales as frequently as they do blood? Anet must really be anti-knight gear to make them so infrequent of a drop.

Meh, there is less chance of dying from 3-4 Minotaur than from 1 Karka.

I farmed the area with my guardian for a little over an hour. Most of the time I was in a group with 2-3 other people (Warriors and Guardians)

I found 35 potent blood, 9 powerful blood and lots of trash loot and blues / greens.

I transmuted the potents into 8 more powerful blood and did pretty well.

Try to team up with at least one other person – it goes faster it’s safer – not to mention loot drops seem to be better with a group.

The only MF I had was an Omnomberry Bar.

Karka are pretty easy. Either use a skill that blocks/reflects projectiles or do a double dodge when they start shooting. Once their projectiles are spent, they are a pushover.

This is great, till you realize you could farm Shelks underwater which don’t stealth and you can 3 shot…to get the exact same thing..

So what seems to provide the most powerful blood, fighting skelk underwater or karka on land? Any recommended spots?

PS: some of these replies are ridiculous. Moaning about people sharing good farming locations, really? Besides, Southsun was a pretty big flop for Anet, the very last thing they want is LESS people there.

This. I can assure you that Arenanet does NOT want you to be able to farm anything at any sort of an acceptable rate. This will now be nerfed into the ground in a fashion comparable to the Plinx farm. :-P

Dont get your panties all tied up farmers/gold sellers. Bots cant handle this area with the exception of famring barracudas underwater, that should be taken care of by now. The rest is death to them. The easy money gamer will not come here because they cannot farm like in Orr, the mobs are slightly tougher, Grin.

As for letting folks know about the drops in southsun shore i could care less about the goldsellers on this thread whining about their areas being compromised. Everyone knows about mats here already, they are simply to much of a hassle for the majority of folks except for the grinders and farmers/goldsellers to get.

So take the attiude and your supposed secret and get bent farmers/goldsellers. For folks that do not know about other things….. venom sacs drop nicely and so do armored scales along with the blood, those that can get them please do, and do not worry about the farmers or gold sellers on this thread whining their areas are compromised.

The drop rates here are just as bad as any other place, yes the mobs in theory drop that loot but hours upon hours of farming there looted me 1 powerful blood, and this was before this thread got posted..

The loot rates need to come up not down..

I myself don’t farm, but it’s always cool to see players helping out other players with tips like these. So here’s a nice post bump, and thanks for the tip that I’m sure other will appreciate (though not all from some of the replies I’ve seen here, lol)!

Sharks, for some reason. The water south of the island is swarming with them (they drop fangs too, which makes more sense). I don’t know if drakes and skale drop scales, but they logically should, and they’re also in Southsun.

And the ‘Claw of Jormag’ event was not working as intended?

Any global notice of such hot-spots can potentially mean that more players will over-farm particular items – and this, in ANet’s eyes, is a potential loss.

This isn’t the first time a hot spot, which was working as intended, was posted on the forums and soon after nerfed.

For future reference, I would suggest (as others have) not to post such usefull information.

For all those who farm this spot for coin, yes I can see your point of view, more people farming it means less income. But for people like me who do not have the coin to begin with, I am always looking for ways to get the items I needs. Southsun Cove has alot of earning potential, and it is under-utilised by us all.

I stand by my original statement, Anet made a big hoopla out of releasing a new end-game PvE area and no one wants to go there, so the last thing they’ll want to do is remove the only incentive to visit the area at all. Let’s face it, Southsun is less attractive than other areas of the game, nothing interesting really happens there, and fighting crab monsters is just plain boring.

It’s pretty funny that so many people believe this to be a supersecret farming location though. Everyone knows Southsun Cove is good for farming, it’s just that some people have trouble with the karka. If you can’t breeze through the map with ease then you’ll probably make more gold per hour in Orr or Frostgorge Sound.

To be honest most people I know never went there because it’s boring.. But this is an incentive for them to do so.

The easiest way to do this is to drop your turrets next to the bots and afk.

That’s not a spike, it’s a dip. And it happened this morning. Prices were 14 S, went down to 12, now back up at 13. I am not fully convinced there’s a correlation between this thread and the market (hence my “as of this thread” not “because of..”)

But it’s just an interesting piece of info how in a few hours there was a move in the market “allegedly” because of this topic.

I’m not a farmer nor am I actively going for any legendary/ascended gear at the moment, so this really doesn’t affect me, but I do feel somewhat bad for anyone who was trying to keep quiet about this. I think they have a valid reason to be upset, and to accuse them of being selfish goldsellers seems unfounded. As helpful as this thread was trying to be, I am almost certain that ArenaNet is going to nerf these drop rates and everybody loses in the long run. Prices will go up again, but you’ll be forced to buy them this time as the alternative is no longer a viable option. I believe THAT is the real issue with this post.

It already had tourism, just check Point Pride. They don’t have Karka-Parka’s as I remember though, so go make your fortune!
