So it looks like there are a lot of arguments over what is going on with the expansion/core game deal. But what I don’t understand is what bonuses do I get for pre-ordering.

Is it just the title?

The whole idea of doing a pre-order for the consumer are:
1. Buying a game early so it doesn’t sell out
2. Getting bonuses for being an early adopter
3. Purchasing the game sight unseen
4. Supporting the company by showing you really want the game they are making

Well from what I see here, we know the game won’t sell out because you can purchase it digitally. And from the high prices we are seeing, we are definitely supporting the developers. But if I’m only getting a title, why would I ever pre-order the game? There is no real incentive.

I could just wait til the game comes out, and see if there actually is enough content to warrant paying $50+ to play the game. Worse case scenario, I could go play other games and come back in a year when prices are cheaper or I can get it free packaged with another expansion deal (Ok, maybe that statement is too soon). Nothing says I have to play the expansion now.

So I’m only curious why no pre-order bonus. Anet doesn’t really have to add any bonuses if they don’t want to. Just makes me wonder what would make me pre-order a game that won’t sell out.

Beta access is probably the most sought-after bonus, if the forums are any indication from back when first, email drawing, and second, Portal acquisition is any indication.

Beta access for me, title is a bit naff but I have it on my character to show something new in wvw, Also I want to support anet, it’s done a lot of stuff for free so you know give something back aside from gemstore micro transactions.

Yep, the title and guaranteed access to all betas are the only pre-purchase exclusives. (Not unlike the core game, which gave you a +2 celestial ring.)

Myself and a few other people have been pointing this out, particularly to people who are only unsure about the pre-purchase because of the lack of information so far. Unless you really want the title there’s no harm in waiting.

Although as you said there are less tangible benefits too. For me one plus point of this system is I get to decide when I buy the expansion, but I still get it on launch day. Sure I could just set aside the money, but this way once I’ve made the decision it’s done and I can’t keep wondering if there’s something else I ‘should’ be spending it on.

Only stuff you had for free was the freebies they’ve done from BLTC. Everything else was payed for when you bought GW2
