just finished twilight 1, looked at everything for 1-3, turns out you need about 10 elonian leathers, 90 deldrimor steel ingots along with god knows how much other stuff.

so im stuck between wait 3 months and craft the ingots, or buy them all and save about 100g (or less?), or just buy dusk and save myself all the trouble…

am i missing something here?

Precursor crafting was not designed to be quick or cheap (for that the TP already exists). It was designed to allow you to slowly make incremental progress towards the precursor.

If you have the cash on hand, it is almost always cheaper and faster to just buy it (use buy orders).

First, wait until after tomorrow’s patch — the economy will be affected (although I have no idea in what ways).

Second, my strong recommendation for anyone who is both in a rush and working on the collections is: consider buying the precursor directly from the TP. Part I is the easiest & cheapest, so you haven’t committed yourself financially to the collection. Collections are, as mtpelion said, designed for those comfortable with incremental progress.

Third: if you still want to rush the collection, then I recommend the following method of speeding crafting while saving money:

  • Put in aggressive buy orders for the mats you are going to need for collections 2 & 3 and complete the collection as soon as you can afford. (i.e. offer anything from just above the lowest buy offer to somewhat below)
  • Continue to do your daily crafting. Each day (or each week), sell these to defray the costs for acquiring the items in the step above.

Depending on how well you price and how stable the market, you can end up with a modest net profit or at least keep the premium paid for rushing to a few gold. Obviously, it will take you up to 3 months to recoup what you spent, but you’ll end up saving close to that same 100g you’re worrying about.

tl;dr collections are meant for those taking their time. If you must rush, defray your costs of buying ascended mats by continuing to craft them and sell.

Remember too that you do not need to complete the precursor prior to completing the rest of the gifts for the legendary, so make your clovers 1st as the fail attempts give T6, then get the rest of the gifts ready, you will get lots of materials while doing that (assuming you will farm) to craft your deldrimor steel and some extra items to sell to buy it as well.
