What is Anet and everyone’s stance on awarding at least one precursor (preferably Account Bound) to anyone with say, 5000 achievement points?

It’s a proof that they have played this game long enough to be eligible to go for a Legendary without the means of relying on the Devil’s RNG which already victimized so many players including myself from trying to obtain a precursor without success.

I have over 1700 hours in this game, already tried all possible means to obtain a precursor but myself same as many weren’t lucky enough, but sure, keep trying, that’s what everyone would say, but for how many more hours?

I consider to have a reached a peak in this game where I enjoyed practically everything, I have all professions maxed except two with are almost, various weapon skins, T3 armor set, etc.. My legendary ‘quest’ is about half way and the precursor is the only part which I’m in the dark when I could ever obtain it because I’m confident I can farm the remaining materials once I have it but this lack of success is demoralizing me further and my enjoyment with this game.

Many could say it is only a weapon skin, fair enough, but it is a major objective in the game and with all my GW2 career track so far I would really want to add a Legendary weapon to it, I will keep on going to try my luck a few more times.

I would just like to leave this question:

Would it be fair to award at least one precursor weapon (AB) through a considerable amount of achievement points?

It doesn’t help the fact that the precursor market is completely broken and other than pure dumb luck in obtaining one, you will otherwise be forced to cash out insane amount of money to exchange for gold to buy one from the market.

Hell with the RNG, what an unpleasant mechanic, I tried to ran away from it in other games and here it is haunting me again.

As someone who instantly preordered the 100$ version of this (not relevant) and has played each beta and the 3 day pre-release I can’t even describe how painful it is knowing that I’ve spent enough in the MF to straight BUY a precursor, maybe 2 since the beginning. Meanwhile, I have a friend I bought the game for maybe 4-5 weeks get a dusk drop and then less than a week later get another dusk from the MF. It’s stuff like that which kills my motivation.

Biased Opinion here, but as someone with 5k+ points I would drop to the ground and praise ANets name on high if I could be given a little “Mail” from an NPC at 5k points saying “You are truly a hero among the people! A legend of our time, and you deserve to pursue that legend! Come to ‘X’ in order to claim your reward”. Then you go off and redeem a single, instantly account bound precursor.

This is actually a really good idea and would also give achievement points a meaning. Right now they are just useless numbers that don’t mean anything. Would be nice to have a reward for “achieving” so much.

I only ever log onto here to witter about fields of view and that kind of thing but I’ve dug out my bizarre password just to say that I think this is a great idea !

Although I’ve only got 4,500 achievement points and I want to save 500 for some kind of a big hat so I would much prefer it to be 4,000 for the precursor if you please

I do agree! Right now I really do not see a point in achievement points…Leaderbord is of few matter for me. I think it would be really a good idea to get a precursor as reward for getting an amount of these. To my eyes, it would make the process of getting a Legendary something more worthy, instead of just hard-core farming.

It wouldn’t exactly be ‘legendary’ if everyone and their mother have one. Then again, it was never legendary to begin with.

Still this other way you would feel to have achieved something to deserve it, instead of just blind farming CoF path 1 and such.

number could be higher but think about it this way, there are players who have been playing since launch who don’t have 5k achieve.

precursor droprate should be revamped, that’s sure, but also crafting process should be changed. i’m trying from november to get the legend through MF but wasted around 500g. incredibly i’ve started collecting materials for the bifrost less than 3 weeks ago, today i crafted all 3 gift and i’ve spent less than 300g and i didn’t grind at all. it is weird that it is so easy to get the necessary ingredients in so little time, and that on the contrary it’s impossible to get the precursor. i believe it’s necessary a balance between the crafting process and the way a precursor could be obtained.

the solution is simple:
1) implement a set of daily quests for a medium-long term to obtain the precursor. this way players will have the chance to get it. should be dedication and curiosity to reward the players, not the RNG. the fact that developers don’t implement this system is disappointing, and is a symptom of laziness.
2) crafting a legendary weapon requires a legendary hero. there’s nothing legendary to farm COF p1 and buy materials to craft gift. developers may reach more goals at the same time adding new gifts necessary for the legendary weapons that will be obtainable only by participating in daily missions around Tyria. this way there would be a massive presence of players that run the maps in search of the necessary activities to their daily missions and a decline of farming.

crafting a legendary weapon should be a long term goal ,they should limit the ability to grind and diversifying the daily activities of the player, to get more interest and sense of achievement, instead of unlimited grind and frustration

Nothing wrong with how precursors are currently. If you can’t afford one, revisit your methods. Even by average-joe methods you should be able to afford a precursor within 100 hours of playing time.

Having anything linked to achievement points is a totally idiotic idea. Achievement points are already bad enough with people saying “4k+ ach only” regarding it as some sort of skill recognition. They’re meaningless and pointless, and should stay that way.

Sidenote about the “Wouldn’t be legendary if everyone had one”

They won’t. This is only a static way to get a precursor, you still would have to farm every bit as much to make it.

Very true, but obtaining an underwater precursor is very different from obtaining the lover, dawn, or spark. The more popular precursors take months to farm. Also, who wants to be forced into farming for a month. This is a game. Games are meant to be played, not worked.

I don’t see how running the same dungeon a 1000 times can be considered more meaningfull, it’s equally absurd really.
Precursor should be given as rewards for special quests where amazing skills are required

I still don’t understand the difference between spending 700g on gifts and 500g on a precursor.
How are people able to farm the gifts but somehow not the precursor which is the cheaper component.

Because the other mats can be farmed in a real way. Need venoms? Kill spiders in cursed, clear during maw in fractals, etc. Need blood? Kill harpies in fractals or kill karka, etc. How to get precursor? Hope you pull one out of you butt. That’s the problem.

While I agree they should be given as special rewards (actually I don’t, but some part of the Legendary should be, so why not precursor), they should not be related to achievement points.

Being buyable is not ideal either, but it’s better than being related to achievement points.

All of this “journey to the legendary” talk is moot anyway as you can just buy them from the TP which requires no skill of any sort, just the ability to make money.

I completely agree with this. Legendaries should rely on something more than just farm, for we all know that as long as any kind of drop or profitable way will exist, will be exploited.
I recall, months and months ago, where you could barely see 2-3 legendaries x server, where you would see a guy with it and think “Woah that guy is a God in this game” now you just go “Meh, there goes another Sunrise.” You spend 10 minutes in LA and see hundreds of people showing their legendaries, both one hand legendary weapons, ranged and melee and such. I don’t feel anything legendary in them any more, to me they are just exotic with a different skin.
