Guild Missions – Newly released content to allow you and your guildmates to explore and roam the PvE world and play together.

Oh, except you need a big guild and a wall of 50,000 Mandatory Influence Points to even activate it.

Am I missing the logic behind this? I play everyday with my guildies, all of us are ~1500 hours or more over 6 months. WvW not that big a deal to us, and we all know each other. I was pretty excited, but this arbitrary placement of Guild Missions will delay us for a week or more so just simply from researching everything. I’d understand if it had ANYTHING AT ALL to do with WvW to warrant Tier 5 Art of War.

Comments, please. This is just my initial thoughts from a few summary posts, and what I’ve gathered from in-game. Any new information would be helpful, thanks.

I think we had enough comments from the players around the forum. What I want to hear are comments from the devs. But my thread for that got deleted. But I still have my hopes that we’ll hear some official statements about this issue. It’s just difficult to understand their decision.

Or am I alone with these hopes?

Well I guess they don’t want the small guilds to have access to this feature. Not much else to go on. Join a larger guild I guess.

watch what you write, seems if you question the team you get the slap down, the slippery slope of this game has begun, like Rome all empires die in the blaze of wrong turns.

And it seems like they could use a navigation system as there have been tons of wrong turns lately.
I’m starting to feel like Gw2 is the longest and biggest troll anyone has ever pulled in the history of the internet.

The 50k is just the start if I read this correctly.

You need AoW5 for Guild Bounty Unlock.

You need Guild Bounty Unlock + Econ6 for Guild Treks Unlock

You need Guild Treks Unlock + Politics6 for Guild Rushes Unlock

You need Guild Rushes Unlock + AoW6 for Guild Challenges Unlock

You need Guild Challenges Unlock + Architecture6 for Guild Puzzle Unlock.

Have fun, guys. That’s a lot of chunks of 50k influence right there in dat lurvley linear progression of unlocks.

I know where you’re coming from, I also saw many other players’ posts. Nevertheless, I think it’s important we speak up; these forums serve to allow feedback from the community, so why not voice our opinions? The more comments from players, the more confidently Anet can assess the situation.

I tried that and it resulted in a message reminding me not to make staff call-outs on the forums. But as 12-page long topics with over 600 posts show: this is a major issue. They haven’t been keen on talking with the community (instead of the current method: talking to the community). We are not only players but also customers and I would love to hear the reasoning behind the decision and, if there are any, what plans they have to change it. And then they should discuss these plans on the forums. And not 4 days before the patch for it goes live. Before they start the first line of code for the change they should discuss it.

I can’t help but get the impression this hasn’t quite sunk in yet, with most people, who have just looked at the values next to the items, and not tracked back the pre-requisite items.

I have made a strategic decision on this matter.

My decision is: I do not care. This is so ludicrously out of reach (for the guilds I’m willing to be part of), I’ll watch other guilds doing it on YouTube and pretend I’m there.

From the blog post:

“But what if my guild is super small?” you may say? Not to worry—all these missions take place in the persistent world, which gives you the ability to rally people from the surrounding countryside and maybe make some new friends in the process!

So I guess what they decided not to mention was that you can do guild missions!

…… if they’re the missions of a huge guild that can afford to start them. Awesome. Just awesome.

Bad decision. So especially in the first weeks we’ll have to rely on zerg guilds to be so kind and start missions so that us poor small guild folks my chime in. “Nah, we did your missions for the week. Don’t spend any influence points on these poor kittens. Let them earn it by themselves.” Horrible design decision.

Been down that road, a call out seems to be the worst crime on the forums. On that note some staff feedback would be nice as it seems alot of upset players are speaking out on this update. The old saying: ( players make the game and can break the game). I am very discorded with some of directions this game has gone with, but time will tell if it fails our survives the blacklash of its player base. Seen that happen a few times in games.

It’s not just if it plays out in the end or not. If I feel like company and community are two strictly distinct things and the communication is one-way, then I feel less and less compelled to play the game. Ah, how I miss Gw1….

This argument is SO invalid. I can understand that you don’t need to get a legendary. I can understand that you don’t need T3 armor.
And yes, I don’t need to do the guild missions. But the guild missions are not about optics or fame. They are new content. They are for the guild, to enjoy them together with the people I play with. And hiding that behind a barrier of grind…plain wrong.

This will be the end of small guilds as far as influence goes. There’s just no point in being in a guild smaller than 50 people now aside from personal preference, especially if you want to run guild missions. This is really disappointing.

On the german forum there’s a thread where a guild spend a whole lot of influence to get the bounty hunt missions now and when they started the mission the client crashed for everyone in the mission. So, apart from a poor design decision this patch also included a very bad implementation and QA. I don’t know if I should cry, laugh or both.

Oh boy, this keeps getting better and better:

If you participated in the event to take the bounty down, you will immediately receive your personal reward for guild bounties for that week and your guild will receive completion credit for that target.

This makes it sound like any player participating will get 50 silver, the rare drops and a personal guild commendation, but only the guild that kicked the event off will receive a guild merit, correct?

No, you have have to be in the guild with a mission active. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote the whole thing from the perspective of someone who is trying to run a mission.

Does the person have to represent to get the reward, or just be a part of it?

Pretty sure you have to represent at the time the event completes at least.

“Pretty sure”…hearing this from a game designer…shouldn’t he know about this and not just be “pretty sure”?

Small guild members – chat with a bigger guild and get some, kick in some teamwork and provide a bit of room for players who need a change (big vs small, busy vs quiet), before you know it the multi-guild system will start to making sense.

There’s a difference between a small guild and a casual guild. Like I said, every member in mine has 1500+ hours logged, and we play daily. Still being punished because we didn’t want 400 neckbeard full Explorer Rangers to rack up half a million Influence JUST TO PLAY the game.

I play in a small guild of friends. We all actually know one another. We’re not interested in recruiting strangers to boost our numbers or our influence. We might pick up enough influence for the content in a couple of years. Ergo, I likely won’t be experiencing the new guild content (any time soon). My comment was neither a complaint nor a criticism. It was a statement of fact, nothing more or less. Your response was to an intent that doesn’t exist and is, therefore, lacking in relevancy.

Am i right in thinking if a small guild helps a big guild do guild missions they still dont get all the rewards the big guild gets… so what incentive does guild missions give outside participants?

And you realize Players spouting “people are not forced to do guild missions” while true many would consider leaving this game over joining a big guild, so expect more “where did everyone go” threads popping up, smart guy..

Ok – there is a flaw, the big guild would be rewarded for the little guild representing for it in order to see to run some missions…

The player/character doesn’t have to leave their friendly small guild, gets to run the content, however doesn’t get the same return of investment as the organisation of hundreds of neckbeards.

It is actually tilted in your favour – if you are deadset about seeing/doing everything developed you can, if you are a megalomaniac wanting to build a ranked super guild you can.

For the few who slip through that gap – they pretty much have to meet all of these conditions at once:
1. Have to be very keen about Guild Mission running.
2. Has to be in a small / marginalised guild.
3. Has to be unwilling to also be in a big guild.

Now I know that there are people who will meet all three at once, and make the personal choice not to be flexible/pragmatic enough to move on any of them – to get tacky for a moment – you’ve already made the choice…

As the leader of a small guild of friends, like many others, I’ve pretty much chosen to not care about the guild missions at this point in time. When it really comes down to it, the only reason I was excited about them is that it sounded as though there would be something that all of us could do when we where on at once (because anything more than 5 at once and you have to separate for dungeons, and some people’s computers can’t handle all the people around for the more popular DEs). The fact our guild probably won’t get these (if we decide to go after them) for a long time is a little bit of a bummer, but I won’t throw a hissy about it.

More-so than that though, more than “they don’t listen to the community” and a lot of other complaints I see on these boards, I would lay most of my blame on the constant begging for end-game content that goes around. If nobody was out there complaining about not having end game content that’s causing them to leave (and blahblahblah), does anyone seriously think that all of the stuff that gets put out would be gated off in such a manner as it has been lately?

I don’t. Then again, I just play for fun (which is why I’m working on getting a fourth person to 80 with no Legendaries to my name, no massive bank roll or stacks of ascended gear), and I’ve already racked enough hours to get my money’s worth out of the game.

Also, people saying “No one is forcing you to do it,” although technically right, should really work on not coming off so rude. Need and want are two separate things after all :P

Yep. I actually quit the game a while ago and was looking to come back with this patch. Then I saw how poorly the guild missions were implemented, and just laughed and shook my head.

It’s awesome that you’re adding so much content Anet, but perhaps you should slow down and really look at how you’re implementing it. I mean first the horrible horrible horrible system that was FoTM….and now this? I just don’t understand Anet’s logic.
