Okay here is my 2 cents. Another major studio recently announced an expansion for their MMO, and it is going to be “Free” – IF YOU SUB for the 4 months leading up to the release. 4 Months at $14.99 = $59.96. So they are “selling” their xpac for more than HoT, plus you have to sub to that game forever to play all the content…How is HoT poor value relative to other MMO expansions..?

I have played a lot of MMOs, for over ten years and expansions where always around the $40-$50 mark. Also with inflation, $50 ten years ago is $60 today. Video games are more and more expensive to make every year , yet the retail price hardly moves.

So, lets all just chill out a bit. We have a great hobby, and in all honesty, it’s pretty kitten cheap compared to other pass-times.

If you’ve played a lot of MMOs then you should understand how much of a scam the majority of them are.

Price is an issue for some but for majority of the disgruntle vet is the fact that they’re getting a worse deal coming in to this pre purchase than a new gw2 player.

Guess I overestimated your perception then.

Sad thing with game prices is it’s cheaper to distribute them digitally since it’s simpler to mass produce. People who are overhyped can buy these overpriced games at 60 dollars but within a year or less they can be often be grabbed digitally for a single dollar during special sales (such as the entire Bioshock collection, including Infinite on humble bundle) or eventually sitting at 50-75% off just at base price. As for MMOs, well; I can simplify that by just saying “Archeage” and mention the whole “Catching Whales” concept and let you do your own research.

Tell me exactly why we’re paying that much for all these things~ how much did producing this work cost? what is the upkeep cost for servers and such? exactly how much do they even need to keep their company healthy that they would require the need to sell this awful bundle to existing players and give them things they never asked for like a 2nd account? Are they hurting hard financially or something? Maybe they shoulda tried kickstarters instead. Hell, we don’t even know 100% what is in it or how much there is to know if it’s worth the price.

In some ways it could pull in less money. Not sure what the original price of GW2 was before shop change, but simply continuing selling that and xpan would net more money since newbies would have to buy both individually for what? 50+20 for xpan? 40+20? They rather just burn all their existing players at the stake so new players get a minor discount…

Before the price was announced i said that i was part of the problem because i would have bought that expansion no matter the price to keep playing with my guildies. But 50$ and no option to just buy the expansion and none of the other frills? I’m surprised they went so far in that direction to make me a liar because i apparently did have a line and they crossed it.

I feel bad that Anet made you lie. I too was very excited for this. After seeing the guild hall i had been thinking about dedicating $10 a month to the gem store to try and make a great guild hall. but it seems Anet hit us all in the face
