I’ve noticed the price for mithril ore and elder wood has skyrocketed.

Mithril has gone from 39c on bid to now around 62c bid.

Does the influx of people playing on a holiday account for that much of a price increase? Did Anet ban a bunch of bots (which I assume are common to every game)?

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Less people doing things that provide them. Check the demand/supply levels. This isn’t the only thing that could cause these type of changes but it’s normally worth looking at first.

how’s the price on tier 5?

I think everything is related somehow to mystic forge and precursor.

I dont’ gamble precursor much, so I dont’ know about the market.

I think it has to do with the removal of white swords in WvW for this next month or so. A lot more small man roaming groups making superior siege to take down walls and doors quicker.

To upgrade siege you need Mithril Ore and Elder Wood Logs.

I’m just gonna leave this here:

:P

Edit: Might as well explain. With the snowflakes coming into the market in such insane amounts, it is now extremely cheap and viable to craft ‘rare weapons’ to throw into the mystic forge to gamble. Giver’s weapons is what is being mass produced and causing a spike in demand on the logs and mithril ore.

99% sure this is the cause.

Thanks Fish, that makes sense. Hopefully it will go back to reasonable levels after Wintersday.

I will raise you to 100%.

A good example how precursors/legendaries stabilize other markets that dont seem to have anything to do with it.

I alone crafted more than 150k mithril ore into greatswords during the last 3 days.

Interesting. I have a few thousand mithril ingots I can flush.

Would it be worth it, on the average, to promote unique snowflakes into pristine snowflakes? You have to use 50 unique snowflakes plus dust, etc. but I don’t know how many snowflakes (wiki says 7-40) result.

Supply/demand, and it can change based on the time of day. Just look at ectos – I saw they were down to about 34 silver a few hours ago. I can’t remember seeing them below 40 for quite a while.

I concur with Fish. I think I may have found a use for all my mithril now as I’m sitting on over 10,000 bars..

I made 50 forges yesterday and had an average profit of 75 silver per skillpoint. Thats high for some people but i prefer to use my skillpoints on other promotions.
The amount of t5 flakes you get back is random, so your mileage may vary.

I’m actually browsing the forum while I’m waiting for my 10k ore to be finished refining into ingots. It’s quite time consuming.

75s per skill point is higher than upgrading siege and core to lodestone.

It’s not the highest you can get but for most people i’d say it’s worth doing it.

I made three batches of 50 greatswords with the Giver’s recipe.

I guess I could have sold the greatswords at 60 silver a pop like Wanze did but I ended up forging them and selling any resulting exotics for 4g each.

I got bored with it and just sold the 2K mithril ingots I had left.

Eventually, once Wintersday is over, mithril ore will stabilize and I’ll buy my reserves back.

Yup, its precursor forging, and people crafting legendaries.

Tier 5 materials are at a very low price due to the overwhelming amount people get from the Silverwastes. Champ bags can drop up to 10 at a time I believe, and if you’ve ever been to the Silverwastes, lots of loot is in the form of champ bags, even after the chest spawn rate nerf.

So we have a non-temporary, massive source (probably 3-5x normal rate) of T5 materials. T5 materials are a HUGE factor in legendary crafting because they can be turned into T6 materials and lvl 80 rares, usually the two biggest monetary components of a legendary.

The most popular lvl 80 rares are staff, greatsword, sword, and dagger. Those require elder wood/mithril along with T5 materials. So while the supply of elder wood/mithril is probably roughly unchanged, the demand is higher.

now if only demand would increase a bit more, we may see mithril hit 1s!

I think the hype is over and mithril prices will fall within the next 24 hours because most of the other t5 fine mats already fell to under 2 silver to the same level of t5 snowflakes.
It might take a day or two until people realize that they not only have to compete with undercuts from other people crafting giver greatswords but also undercuts from people who craft the other greatswords.

But it was nice as long as it lasted.

I thought it might be the end of Daily Gatherer, but that didn’t seem like enough…
