Problem: Leveling not fun second time around
whats your opinion of giving people this freedom to optionally skip past these restrictions if they already know how to play?
Excellent post.
And while you’re giving people stuff for free, I don’t want to have to earn gold ingame to buy stuff with. I already farmed a couple of gold, and now I want to have fun, not play through boring gold farming so I can get better gear. Please give me gold and better gear.
If you play the same race, then I’d imagine it would be boring somewhat. My opinion is somewhat different but I know I find it quite refreshing leveling up in the Sylvari areas after leveling up a Norn character to 80. Just take different paths and routes when given the choice in your story quests.
But if you’re one of those “Too-Long; Didn’t Listen” types and skips almost every cutscene … well, I can’t help you there.
On the other hand, WvW is more or less like open-world PvP in most MMOs where people of all levels gang up and beat each other up. Difference is that the lowbies are artificially boosted up to level 80 so that they have a better chance than those who are actually level 80. I don’t know about you, but I see leveling up a new profession more like relearning to play the game. Only with different abilities and mechanics. Skipping levels might make sense if you’re creating a new character of the same profession (eg. I have an 80 Warrior and might consider starting another Warrior), but skipping levels for a brand new profession doesn’t make sense.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
I don’t want to grind to get the legendary weapon skin — I don’t find it fun. Hey, Arenanet, could you please make that grind optional? OPTIONS are great! People who want to grind their legendary can do it that way, and people like me who want to skip it can do it our way! Please give us OPTIONS. OPTIONS are great!

Welcome to reality. GW2 @ level 80 is boring…
Why do I want to headache through a dungeon only to get gear that isn’t even that interesting?
End game item:
+300 stat
+300 stat
+300 stat

I think arena net was right about one thing…. It’s about the JOURNEY… The journey 1-80 was fun… Then arena net misses the big picture… End game is level 80 content and cool items and stuff that you can work on to make your character change in power noticeably…
1-80 B+ very fun….
@80 C- Nothing to do… You banked on thinking everyone or the majority would like achievements, exploration, and PvP…
Why explore when there is no gear to find rarely?
Why achieve when you receive nothing?
PvP you can get gear from, so that is something to work for.
I guess the reality check would be that GEAR is a huge part of RPG’s…. People like to be powerful and work to be powerful.
Maybe I’m just spoiled having played MMO’s for 14 years… Who knows, right?
Farming for a legendary SKIN is probably the worst idea I ever heard in any game. This game is literally a mouth watering adventure for casual gamers, for sure.
But for players who come from games like Everquest, WoW, DAoC, The Realm, AC, UO…. Where there were powerful items with powerful stats to make your character powerful… This game is hard to get into. I find myself unimpressed by the entire item system.
I like the skill system…. But I want to make my character powerful if I find a rare item. Except there are no rare items with powerful stats.
To the people complaining about there not being enough gear grinds, here’s some information for you. To start with, AreneNet has said from the start that this wouldnt be a non-stop gear treadmill mmo. Second, IT’S A LAUNCH MMO, you really expect there to be a large amount of endgame in the first month? Also, there are dynamic events that havent happened in the endgame zones yet, because there aren’t enough people to cause them to happen.
Have the guys of you who do not enjoy replaying the game for a second, third, etc. time ever thought of the option of, well, just to stop playing the game and play something else instead? There are many, many entertaining games out there. Maybe you just need a rest from GW2, and you can enjoy it again after some downtime.
I’d assume that there is really no sense in forcing yourself to play a game over and over again when you do not really enjoy it.

Hmm … I don’t see “working to be powerful” as the core mechanic at the heart of an RPG. Seems I am not people.
But maybe that’s just me playing RPGs for story and adventure since 28 years.
It’s about the JOURNEY…
I couldn’t express it better than this.
