Problem(s) of a new player...
Play the game, and as you enjoy it, you’ll level up. If you want to level faster, WvW is a good place to get XP. The more you rush it, the less you’ll enjoy the game because then it becomes a chore. Once you hit level 80, then focus on all the optional stuff.
As of this morning, i just learned of these new ‘epic’ professions.
Here is my problem; I currently have a lot of fun playing my mesmer (who is only like lvl 17) and my new necro, and i really don’t enjoy the ranger that much.
HOWEVER, I think the Chronomancer, Reaver, and Druid look incredible (I love pvp(as a genearl team as i’ve never done WvWvW here) healing.
What should I do?
Thanks in advance (oh, and I did buy HoT a couple of days ago)
If you love sPvP (not WvW) and want to try them out, it’s a free unlock in sPvP.
If you want to play them in PvE or WvW, you need to get to level 80 first then assign 400 hero points for full unlock of traits, skills, weapon and skins.
ANet may give it to you.
i’m sorry flesh wound, i don’t know what sPvP is (unless that is ‘unrated’ battle arena type games, where i’ve seen the lobby look like they just swap wins to finish dailies)..
I am still learning about gw2, i spend about the same amount of time playing, as I do reading. I know there are hero challenges out there, that give points, and you get them while you’re leveling, how hard is it to get to 400? (i do not mind doing the work, just curious if i want to focus on one, or just enjoy playing all of them )

This is good info but be for warned. After you get to lv 80, you need to get 400 more hero points just to unlock the elite. I don’t know if it is a glitch of the way it is now, but after lv 80, you won’t get Hero Points via lvs. So you will have to get them from hero point locations on the map. 213 in tyria and unknown amount in Maguma. As far as I can see. You won’t be able to use the elite until it is fully unlocked or the weapon related to it.
This is not to discourage you but to make sure you pick the class you really want as it will be a lot of work and you may be stuck with that char for a long while.
Understood tron, i guess that’s why i’m looking for assistance. In some MMOs people will suggest to play a class to a certain level to fully understand how it works/plays. Is that the same here? I mean you technically unlock all your possible skills by 31 (not counting the spec skills)
I like to be ‘useful’ i want to play a class that people would want on their pvp team, or if i end up in a guild and running dungeons/fractals/raids something that is useful there as well.
Please do not take “useful” as meaning i want to be fotm, i don’t want that at all. I want fun and purpose
EDIT:
I’d also like to add that coming to the forums and talking to people on /map has been a breath of fresh air. I’m used to EQ2/WoW where everyone is a jerkface. Loving the community here.

With guild wars 2 its a bit different. Sure in the past it was zerk this and that and you may find players who still think some classes are useless. What you want to do is get a feel for the classes you like. Feel the play style and then decide from what you like the most. All classes can be very useful if build right. This though is more from a PVE stand point over pvp. In the end though it is no fun if your just playing a class that everyone say is the best but you really don’t like.
I myself think the druid is a very sweet new class that will be great. Though I am working on Scrapper (eng) as that has got my interest most.
Also since there are so many new things and new builds to be made. A lot of PvP/WvW players are probably just now discovering what works great and what is not so good.
Anyway, good luck and have fun. Fun is the only reason to be playing the game.
Thanks will do. I am just going to keep working on the classes I like, as I am. Eventually one of them will make me know it’s the one. Currently lvling Guardian, Mesmer, Necro, Ranger lol
