Problem turned into refreshing experiance
-back to my ranger now-
Eeeehr… What exactly stops you from doing the same reading and watching on your lvl 80 guardian?
a wierd sence of progression, as a newly created character the world is unexplored, i could watch and read as i go along the way towards pois and vistas that i “unlock”
as a lv 80 guardian half of the maps are already finished, id have to simply walk around those maps for the sore purpose of reading and watching things that happen around me
idk, im just wierd like that :P
It’s a good idea with any game, especially RPGs.
It’s kind of what made so many people’s childhood seem so much better than today when it comes to video games. I understand fewer games were streamlined, and instant map travel wasn’t really a thing in the past, but that’s not all.
When I go back today and play old games that I played as a kid, I find that I’m beating most of them in an hour or less. I might even surpass my past progress in a game and think, “Wow, so I really was too stupid to figure this out?”
However, what is a 1-hour experience now used to be months of being engulfed in every corner of the map, replaying the first level a million times, doodling characters/objects from the game instead of doing my homework and fantasizing that I will find a secret in the game that nobody else has found.
I played a lot of game demos over and over again.
Truth be told, the best way to experience a game is to not stress about experiencing it to the fullest. Else you’ll find yourself watching hundreds of youtube videos, rushing to max level and freaking out whenever a new temporary dungeon comes out and nobody has posted how to do it yet. The funny thing is, while doing that you’re missing thousands of dialogues and neat locations.
On the flip side, if you stop and smell every rose twice, you may never make it to the top. You might not ever experience some of the endgame content at all. However, if you don’t let that bother you, you could transform all of that stress and burnout into months or even years worth of enjoyment.
There is still merit to both play-styles though.
That’s pretty much my approach to any computer game, especially RPGs where there is a lot of side content to explore. I’ve played Skyrim off and on for about two years now and last month I met the Graybeards for the first time. Then I finally got around to talking to the guy about joining the Dawnguard, too.
Then I started a new character.
