Problem with Lack of Communication
I’m sure this thread will have the same amazing results as the other communication threads, but figured I’d put this here as it’s quite relevant.
Why did you have to wait for HoT to just pop on and say “We recognize that this is a problem and are working to fix it.”
Do you realize how much nicer it would be if we were to receive timely information? Is that asking too much?
I realize that there was a hint about this given a couple of weeks ago by Gaile, but that was still 70-some odd pages into this thread — about 8 months since this thread started.
That’s eight months widening the gap of distrust between ArenaNet and it’s players. Eight months of rage that could have been avoided from the start by just engaging with us in a timely manner. Seriously, ask yourselves — is this how you want your company to present itself to its players?
I hope that post-HoT, the need to wait for every meaningful communication to require hype and theatrics is gone.
Please ArenaNet? Acknowledging that the new trait system “wasn’t right” for GW2 would not have spoiled HoT in any way.
This is why we don’t trust you.
The fact that Anet didn’t even share their plans with the community before adding such badly designed change to the trait system, also shows how bad the communication is.
Except that they did share their plans with us before pushing the changes.
They posted info on it weeks before the release.

No, you don’t trust them because you think you’re entitled to know everything going on with the game at any time, and you take issue with the fact that ANet likes to control the flow of information to the players. If you had any experience in the professional world, you’d probably realize that ANet’s communication with the player-base is not only satisfactory, but something that you should spend exactly zero amount of time concerned with, because they know what the hell they’re doing.
You know, it’s a lot easier to just live your life, and play GW2, rather than spend time out of your life worrying about whether or not the company that’s been successfully running the show for 2.5 years is properly handling their communication efforts.

The 10-month kittenstorm about Traits would like a word…

And you’re worried about his worrying, and I’m worried about your worrying about his worrying, and….
What it really boils down to is parallel to the old adage “Measure twice, cut once.” If they had tested and gotten proper feedback about the Trait system, it could have been adjusted well before release.
The same goes for the updated gem interface. Dozens of pages of angry feedback because they don’t communicate prior to release. Not to say they need to hit the forums with it, but they really need to find some people close to the player community to help vet ideas before they become disastrous.

Anet’s philosophy since the beginning has been to do their choices without listening for input from the players. You may like it or hate it but the fact is that the game has been succesful enough so they haven’t changed it and probably won’t change it anytime soon. You can even see from the posts by community managers that they aren’t given any information and are just posting to make it feel like some input matters but at the end of the day it doesn’t.
IIRC, there were a bunch of suggestions to make the traits to the current system. People felt that just getting traits just by leveling wasn’t fun, and wanted a different way to do it. Like exploring, doing certain events, etc.
So thats why we have the current system. Granted I feel they could have done it a bit differently, but it is what it is, and it was largely based on what the community wanted.

I do not get it why should they replay to your post before others?

Decent concept, hideous execution. :\
I followed that camp all through the trait debacle, and I’d still be making alts if it had been done differently. There’s 80 pages that explain the rest.

I know you have good intentions OP but unfortunately nothing is going to change.
All of us have to live with it. Enjoy the game before they’ll destroy it in the name of being special snowflake so at least for some time you’ll get fun worth your money.
I’ll also say that I am disappointed by the lack of communication since the SAB “riots”. We were told communication would be prioritised, and all we’ve had is an increase in red posts saying “we’re listening” and “soon”. Not even a particularly big increase.
Still no idea when SAB is coming back (or whether there is any limit to how long people who paid real money for the infinite continue coin will be expected to wait while ANet hangs on to their cash). Still no idea what the trait changes will be other than vaguely linked to masteries. Do we have any information on fixing the personal story? (I actually don’t know the last one)
People please
This is the same group of devs who finally realized it was a good idea to explain why they patch certain skills just 2 years after the game release.
2 years…
ArenaNet Communications Manager
We’re rolling out information in large bunches, with blog posts, images, major press interviews, PoI, Ready Up, and so forth on a very regular schedule now.
The forums are intended to be used to talk about the game, not company policies. While we appreciate and completely understand that players would like more information, we will not be able to provide information upon demand. And any experienced forum member knows that no matter what is revealed, someone, somewhere will feel the level of detail is insufficient, that the information requires rebuttal, that we should be talking about this thing and not that other thing and so forth.
Let’s talk about the game.
