Didn’t care for Ele or Ranger?

The professions that can use a shield are Warrior, Engineer and Guardian.

Also, if you have HoT, the Chronomancer and Herald.

Perhaps, Warrior or Guardian will suit you. Good luck.

Elementalist..I leveled up to 8 and found it to be squishy
Ranger : Is nice for leveling and I will keep playing it for my “need relaxing” moments

The melee class is for those days when I have a lot of energy and would like to experience raw thrill of mashing up my enemies instead of pewpewing from range and allowing my pet to have all the fun

“Also, if you have HoT, the Chronomancer and Herald. "
I will try warrior and guardian both.
Can you tell me at what level for both of these classes where I can start to feel the uniqueness and/or the power of them ?

Also I do have HoT but I dont see these two choice (Chronomancer or Herald) in the character selection screen ?

You can play Chronomancer and/or Herald right now during the BWE. They are the Elite Specializations for Mesmer and Revenant. After this weekend, you will have to wait for HoT to release.

Each profession is unique in its own way, otherwise we would not have the different professions. =)

I haven’t played that long but I am just loving the Warrior – I played Paladin and Berserker in EQII for 8 years – but in GW2 you can also have a bow as a Warrior – I love that! I am altogether falling in love with this game – so much so my neck and shoulders are crazy hurting… haha…

Definitely sounds like a fellow warrior to me! I mean seriously, huge health pool, high active mitigation, big damage with the greatsword. Give it a shot! You might also find you like Guardian.

Warrior.

NEXT!

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

So you want a melee Barbarian who can wield a shield and swap weapon to a two handed Greatsword type weapon that builds adrenaline and bull charges into the enemies and smash foes faces with mace or hammer while having descent decent survivability like being able to tank damage ? That sounds like a staff elementalist to me.

Just in case ur serious, duh a warrior. :P

Engineer. But get a multi-button gaming mouse

Melee (Hammer/Tool Kit) / Mid-range (Flamethrower) / Long-Range (Mortar)
Any race
Can dual-wield pistols or use Hammer
Surprisingly painful if played right
I drop med packs that heal for 300-ish each every time I crit (along with mines)
Hammer has a charge, and you can use Rocket Boots
Can also equip pistol/shield combo

Engineers are one of the few classes that can do pretty much everything, though rarely as well as others who are more specialized. That said, if you’re an Engineer and in a situation you can’t handle you either can’t plan, or you plain suck. The drawback, though, is that they’re one of the harder classes to master. I would highly suggest running a full Celestial build

Definately Warrior.

You might branch out to a different class later, but warrior will seem very familiar while providing you with enough basics of the game to decide what really suits you.

Guardian might be second pick.

Classes you should definately stay away from:
- Mesmer
- Elementalist
- Engineer
- maybe Thief

Reason being, those are very high up as far as player skillcap goes and all require either an overload of skills, mechanics, game knowledge and/or all of the mentioned.

All fun classes in their own, but not as fun for a first timer.

Definitively warrior, not only is it a class that’s easy to learn while still being very useful in the end game dungeons as well, it also fits all your criteria:

a) Melee
Yup, although it fits most classes I think Warriors have the largest amount of available weapons.

b) Kinda like barbarian
It is, the elite spec coming in HoT is even called Berserker. If you want the look, there are some pretty Conan-esque armors and combine that with two axes or a greatsword and you’ll be crushing your enemies. Seeing them driven before you. Hearin the lamentations of their women.

c) Dual wielding if possible..if not i would prefer heavy dmg with 2h weapon
As pointed out above, they have a very wide array of weapons to choose from with several options for both dual wielding and 2h heavy hitters

d) “In-your-face”,“mash-you-up” factor etc
Oh yes, very much so. You get in there and you start swinging, as a bonus you can trait so you buff your party while you’re hitting the enemy as well.

e) Adrenaline pumping
Adrenaline is even the name of their class resource I’d say the feel of the Warrior is the most visceral of all the classes, the audio works well with the graphics to make it feel like you’re really putting the hurt one the enemy.

f) Decent survivability
Highest base health pool in the game coupled with heavy armor makes for a good start. Your actual survivability comes down to how you gear up and what traits you take though but warriors can certainly stay alive very well while still having a very DPS oriented build

g) Havin a charge spell (like in wow’s warrior)
Do you mean as in you charge the enemy (rather than a charge up skill)? If so, oh there are plenty: Rush, Savage Leap, and Bull’s Charge comes to mind. There is also a skill actually called charge but that one isn’t an actual charge skill, it just gives a speed buff.

h) Need not be plate wearing only…cos I also loved my enh shaman and rogue also before
It’s a plate wearer

The main drawback I see with warriors is that they’re not that great in sPvP but since you get automatically boosted to lvl 80 in sPvP and given the best gear, you can just try other classes for sPvP if you want to without needing to level them any.

Try Warrior/Guardian. Also if you got HoT on char select screen make a character in the “beta” slot and try out revenant. You’ll start at lvl 80 so it’ll show you what is good with the class.

Would not suggest any of the light classes based on what you said.

Note, No progress is saved for the beta slots but you can try any class at lvl 80 using it just for this weekend.

From your requirements it sounds like warrior. All professions in GW2 can melee. Try melee with your ranger for some variety.

sounds like a warrior to me.
it’s also a great class to start when new to the game, in my opinion, because it is not as squishy as other classes and the skill set is pretty easy to understand and control (Engineer is probably more difficult in that for exampleand I managed to kill myself several times with mesmer).
the warrior is melee for a big part, he’s a heavy armor class, but he’s not the highest damage dealer in the game…
I personally would advice you to try out every class out and then decide.
Being part of a bigger guild of casual players, with people you can ask while gaming and that perhaps help you leveling, can also help chosing the right class for a main.

I’d say you are mentioning warrior (easy for starters, tanky, dual wielding, facemashing, melee, adrenaline….)

easy proffessions would be ranger, warrior and necromancer all 3 are very powerful with relaticvely easy mechanics

dual wielding classes (by weapon):

  1. dual sword: warrior, mesmer, revenant
  2. dual axe: warrior, ranger
  3. dual mace: warrior
  4. dual dagger: ele, thief, necro
  5. dual pistol: thief, engineer
23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.
