To show that you got skills are many gamers wish, it’s in human nature to show that you are the top dog in some things and yada yada.

I my opinion, defining the word skill can be discussed for some time. Either way, I’ve been wondering, what ‘’proof of skill’’ does Guild Wars 2 have?

Is Liadri the only thing so far to prove that you got some kind of skill? Is the Super Adventure Box Tribulation Mode in some way a proof of skill?

Are these two the only stuff we got so far to show some proof of skill?

Aren’t there some PvP titles that only a small amount of people got recently, because they have been in tournaments and such?

Is Liadri the only thing so far to prove that you got some kind of skill?

and its not even reliable.

Liadri only shows that you a) have skill AND b) you live close to the servers or have a good connection.

For people located in south america (like myself, lowest latency is around 300-500) it was close to impossible.

Zerk is the average Joe build. Don’t pat yourself in the back too hard.

MMO’s have not ever and do not currently take skill. They take time, patience and basic motor function. The ability to memorize scripted events is also a plus. Liadri was nothing more than trial and error, learning her mechanics.

Yeah.. No.
Liadri didn’t require any skills whatsoever.
If you the best gear you could easily just kite her with a ranged weapon.
I went 30/30/10/0/0 with my guardian and just kited her with a scepter, no weapon-swapping at all.

No.

I have done both Liadri and SAB.

And while I could say that both certainly separate the hardcores from the casuals, both are easy to do.

Liadri itself is quite easy. the 8-orb achievement however, is very less forgiving and completing it is very impressive IMO. But I firmly believe skill in MMOs does not exist. The closest thing to skill is reaction time and APM, which isn’t really skill.

Tribulation mode is ridiculously easy. It’s not difficult, it’s just a chore. You run into a spike, you just remember it the next time and avoid it. I did W1 Trib simply following Dulfy’s guides. I never intended to buy an infinite coin and I never will since I can just shadow dulfy’s steps (and not to mention the coins themselves are easy to get)

Skill is about the capability to react right as offensively than defensively and do the best choices in actions and adapt counter-actions and being able to anticipated to take over ennemy in any situation possible in order to win. So knowledge is power. Experience help to master.

Closest is Arah Dungeon armor and SAB Skins.

But mostly this.

But I firmly believe skill in MMOs does not exist. The closest thing to skill is reaction time and APM, which isn’t really skill.

If you want the comments and recognition from other players try to get a skin that looks cool. Not a proof of skill but you will get comments where did you get that.

I get delays regularly I’ve contacted A-net and my service provider with a “sorry we can’t do anything about it” and I still get major packet loss having a ping of 300+ regularly…

And killing Liardi was not a problem so that’s not much of a thing.

Though I agree it’s unreliable since there were ways to speed clear it, as well as it not being thaaat difficult.

But we do need a better method and I think account bound exotics as a reward daily for something skillful would be awesome. Along with titles and skins.

And if the skill comes from know how or when to react that’s fine by me.

WoW takes more skill than Guild Wars 2 ever will. I have 20 skills to pick from instead of 10. It takes a lot of skill to memorize those 20 skills and when to use them in certain situations. I’ve never needed to do that in GW2 ever. All I do is spam 1-5 and I’m good.

Soloing Lupicus is probably the best skill test we have.

Failing that, soloing champions in the open world.

Hahaha. Thanks for that laugh, that was fun. Read my post again. “…and when to use them in certain situations”. Those situations come a lot more frequently in WoW than they do in GW2. Why? Because a pally might come up to you and you see a giant sword appear above your head, meaning the pally’s intention is to stun you. As your stun takes less time to activate, you use yours first and follow by stacking bleeds on the pally.

I can honestly say that I utterly destroy people just by smashing 1-5 on the keyboard and barely use 1% of my brain capacity when I do this. There are no strategic maneuvers you might attempt in combat, because they don’t exist.

A fair test of skill would involve two players, with the exact same profession, skillbar, traits, gear, weapons, accessories, upgrades, race, proficiency and everything else fighting 1v1 in a closed arena… Only then would you see a true test of skill necessary to win the match.

PvE events do not involve skill so much as a knowledge of the AI and progression of said event. Rather like riding a bike; the first time you end up bruised (and sometimes broken) and then you get better at it as time and practice goes on.

The best show of skill in the game right now is how SOME commanders direct their part of WvW. Notice I did not say ALL commanders. There are some who are absolutely brilliant in their tactics, while others are simply running from point to point, confident that the zerg that follows them will take care of the situation.

All of this is, of course, merely my opinion of the issue. Others will see things differently.

Cheers!

I don’t see that at all, everything ability has animations which seperate it from every other ability that could be on your opponents skillbar. The only exception is instant cast, and certain weapon abilites have animations very similar to their basic attack animation. Additionally, half the classes have overpowered builds in this game, and WoW, and most MMOs period. If you’re playing one of them, you’ve no right to complain about difficulty.

As for my WoW experience, unless you played sans-macros and add-ons (which nobody did), most builds required no skill whatsoever.
