Me and 3 friends were at Steeleye span in the blazeridge steppes. We thought there would be a event after the “defend the southern wall” event. so we wanted to let it fail on purpose. the timer started (3 or 4 minutes) and we only looked at it. no other people were involved. we didnt kill 1 mob and when the timer was over, the wall was still not broken. this means the event is almost impossible to fail right? in my opinion the cooler events (meta events) should be pretty hard. and a lot of people want it to fail on purpose btw, cuz the events get way cooler when it fails and it gets invaded.

yep, 3 people would like to do hard DE and fail, but 500k would find it annoying and quite.
looking for a hard stuff? take your 3 mates to Arah or solo it.
no offence, just general point of view, seen in many MMO, as people cry how it easy and run away when it became hard.

Quit doing DE’s at level or sub-level…..go to an area 4-5 levels above you. Kinda hard to do at 80, but down scaling only works one way for lower level toons. I prefer soloing higher level areas on lower level toons personally.

Well, this is only one event. Many other events wouldn’t have this particular result if ignored.

I agree that getting to see the follow-up events when a DE fails is fun. Not every DE will stand up to being ignored, though, so I don’t really think it’s a good example of DE difficulty overall.

This is along the same lines as your post so I will mention it here. The DE’s (the ones involving combat) should be even a little bit more difficult IMO as once you enter a dungeon currently you are introduced to a much more difficult environment. Having the players being forced into dodging once in a while would make them more suited to a dungeon run.

Just to clear something up. we were not higher lvl then the area, we were around lvl 40-42. and im not asking for super hard content, but when we try to let it fail and even then it wont fail, i think something is wrong. is it that weird that i want events to actually be possible to fail?

lot of people want to “solo” events.
so thats part of the reason.

group events should be slightly more challenging, but mainly because they involve a boss.

and yeah, go rock dungeons with 3-4 party members only if you like challenge over rewards. 3 is minimum for fotm i think, but others can be taken on.

you can start with “story” dungeons if you want!

Yes but really, i understand what u mean but i think its a mistake that an event can not fail at all! :/ and the steeleye span is a meta event (the bigger/more important event) so i just thought it was weird. guess im the only one thinking that

Some of the escort DEs are impossible to fail as well. So many times I’ve simply gone the same way as an escort DE already taking place just because we were heading in the same direction – I don’t recall if there were even other players or not – and even after we parted ways, I’d get credit for completion from across the map.

Sure, the free XP seems nice to a leveling character, but this needs to be fixed.

Not everything needs to be mindnumblingly hard to be enjoyable. At least not for me. If I want to play harder content, there is dungeons. The DEs I prefer the way they are.

That being said, I would agree that events should fail if players don’t intervene.

If you want that kind of event to fail, get a bunch of people to rock up, get involved in the first wave, and then just stand back and do nothing for the second wave. The DE will scale up the number of mobs for the second wave due to all the people being involved, and then all the mobs will subsequently smash the NPCs.

There’s some events which are virtually impossible to complete due to mechanisms of the events as well. I’ve had that stupid dredge supply stealing event always fail, even with ~12 people leaving a mountainous pile of dead Dredge behind…

I think most of the time, they do. Perhaps this is a bug. I’ve seen a lot of bugged DEs in the world lately.

Back in he beta event weekends there was some truly amazing, challenging events.

That took skill and cooperation to complete and if you failed you still got to see new events.

Most of these events have had all the challenge gutted out of them and can be beaten by spamming 1 and holding a direction key.

A real shame.

We needed proof that DE’s were too easy? They’re not supposed to require much coordination (save a few high level DE’s in Orr) because anyone is supposed to able to jump in and complete them. I hear some of the upcoming guild missions are going to be difficult to beat, so there’s that.

I think it’s not right to say that DEs are too easy when some of them never really Fails even if players don’t intervene. I think it’s more likely a flaw or a bug in the mechanics of the DE itself and not the difficulty. I believe a some events need some tweaking on the mechanics of the events itself in order to create a more dynamic feel to it, i.e. the possibility of failing if certain goals are not achieved or if there are no players participating in it. But the difficulty should however properly scale in order to cater, say 1 person trying to succeed in the Dynamic Event or a zerg spamming auto attacks and AOE in a particular DE. So basically the OP technically is pointing out a flaw in the DE itself which I think does not necessarily affect difficulty of the said DE, per se. Bug fixes to DEs like this and proper scaling of DEs based on the number of players participating should be looked at.

One thing to keep in mind is that events run with or without player presence. This means that event chains likely have quite a bit of leeway put in to make sure there is a reasonable amount of time for someone to stumble across the event before it fails.

This looks more like an anecdote and less like proof. A report of one event ending successfully without intervention might indicate a bug, or that that event is easy, but you cannot generalize from this that all events are (too) easy.

Considering that a DE doesn’t even give you enough of a reward to pay for half the cost of a death, they cannot be anything but impossible to fail and impossible to lead to your death.

However since they do still present a chance ot die and offer almost zero reward whatsoever then they still need to be nerfed until the reward covers at least more than the full cost of a death.

I think the main issue is that the difficult of an event is determined simply by the amount of enemies available rather than how difficult those enemies are.
