Proposition: sovereignty pvp servers
erm… so what about WvW? o.o
oh and about your suggestion, I can think of a number of problems:
1.) There are 1000000x guilds and compared to the map, the number of guild is far more than the number of available maps, thus, there wouldn’t be enough for everyone. (which, you may say, is ok since guilds are meant to fight for their resources.) But…
2.) It is highly unfair for guilds who are not active in pvp that they be denied resources from the game. With the heavy emphasis of GW2 on cooperative pve-world, this goes counter to that philosophy. and…
3.) Major reaaaaly big guilds (guilds with an ave of 100-400+ members active at any given time) will hold a monopoly over those areas. Since you tied in resources, the only way to beat them is to join them, and thus, guilds won’t really touch each other, and your idea of “big guilds fighting each other” will not materialize since both/all those guilds will realize is it is far more profitable to own and defend an area than to invade another guild’s area. Plus, this divides the server and cause inter-server bickering which eventually will lead to less attendance in WvW. Solo players are going to be the worst-off, since they have no guild and will virtually have no way of getting those resources/WP/events.
In essence, your suggestion shoeboxes people into playing in a particular playstyle, whether they like it or not, just to remain competitive or even have the opportunity to explore the world. It also invalidates the purpose of WvW. I think you’d rather make suggestions to WvW as it keeps people who want an open-world pvp and people who want a purely pve experience.
I hope I have been as constructive as possible, and not have replied in a negative manner.
If you think the zerg is bad now…
We have sovereign PvP servers, the are named “eternal battlegrounds” and the 3 borderlands.

So…. you want contested areas that contains PVE content that players need to fight over and retain control of…
Great idea. ANET should definately do something like that… maybe even have it so different worlds could get in that action… call it something like Planet vs Planet….
Yes… that was sarcasm. And no… open world PvP in the actual PVE area is a horrible idea.
the game is not designed towards a sandbox playstyle competing for map areas. There is plenty of that in WvW. Join that and stop claiming imagined shortcomings of the normal pve maps as an excuse for wanting to “gank n00bs”. And to counter your expected carebear argument: I am quite heavily into eve territorial pvp – but that game is designed towards that kind of playstyle.
I played a different NCSoft game sort of like that, Lineage 2.
You could have guild halls. Some of them you had to fight for every couple of weeks.
You could own a castle, which had to be pvp-sieged. Owners of the castle had access to unique items, control over the economy such as crafting materials, and extracted a tax on all business in their realms.
It was a very different design than guild wars. I’d love to see it implemented in a GW2 type setting (i.e. where gear-level is capped low).
When you’ve played like that, it makes the separated mini-games like GW2’s EB and borderlands seem less meaningful. On the other hand, I can see with GW2 players that there’s a majority that are here because it’s not a real pvp game. It’s a good thing, in the long run.
