Is there a way to do Push-To-Walk instead of toggle to walk for the control option?

I am not totally sure what you mean if you are saying that setting “W” to Auto run is not working for you? If this is not what you mean then there is an option there, just as I mentioned. Set your “W” to auto run. It works perfectly fine for me. I get precision movement just like everybody else and just press “W” again or “S” to stop running.

Then again am I totally off here and you mean you just want to walk slow and not the semi run/jog normal game speed we do? If that’s what you mean then no, that is the only option to walk, the toggle on and off. But even that works perfectly for me. I have it set to “Insert” so I can easily turn it on and off when needed. Which is rare, usually just for fun/roleplay when doing any escort event if the npcs are real slow.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

There is not.

(For anyone confused: You can set a custom keyboard command to switch from the normal running-speed to having your character walk. When you’re finished, you hit command again to toggle off walking mode, and the OP is asking about a way to just walk, without having to toggle it on/off.)

There is, but you have to choose between push-to-walk and push-to-run; currently, you can only have one.

  • Toggle walk — the default [w] moves you forward at walking speed; [.r] gets you walking until you press another movement key.
  • Toggle run — [w] moves you forward at running speed; [.r] starts you running.
  • There’s no way to set a key to walk and another key to run, either incrementally (like [w]) or continuously (like [.r]).

Did I not just say that? Maybe I’m being dense, but that sounds like the current system as I understand it. Perhaps I was unclear in my own explanation.

In the first BWE the only way to walk was to hold down a key the whole time. RP playtesters provided a lot of feedback and one of the big things requested was to be able to toggle between running and walking so we could do other things while auto-walking, such as type RP lines.

If you keybind easily reached keys for auto-run and walk/run toggle, it’s the briefest of moments to swap your speed. I use – and = respectively, have done so in all my MMOs. I suppose I can see why someone might want to be able to just press a key for walking while still having running as the regular motion (I have on occasion realized I was in walk mode when I really needed to move in a hurry, and it could help the flow of some JPs) but in general the game offers more than enough flexibility with the existing controls, in my opinion.

This guy gets what I mean.
If you played FPS games, you have to hold down Left-Shift while pushing the W key to walk. This is called “Push-to-walk” . You basiclly push down Shift, while hitting W to walk. When you let go of the Shift Key, the W key alone will make you just run.

This is the feature I want, to keybind a key to allow me to “Push-to-walk” not “Toggle-walk on/off”

There is a way via AutoHotKey, though I’m not sure if it would violate the ‘1 key press=1 action’ rule.

Basically, you can make it so pushing down your walk key will enable walking mode, and then when you release the walk key it’ll auto-send that key again upon release to toggle it back to running.

Essentially, you are sending that key action upon depressing the key, and then sending it again upon releasing the key, thus making it a ‘only-walk-while-holding’ function.

I’m not too sure if having an ‘on-release’ key action in addition to the ‘on-press’ action would violate the rules.

If others do not think that this would violate the rules, I can work up the ahk script for you if you mention what key you use to toggle walking currently.
