PvE Culling
When they’re done making no culling work properly.
If you read Colin’s latest blog post (https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/looking-ahead-guild-wars-2-in-2013/) you’ll see culling in PvE mentioned near the bottom in the And So Much More to Comeā¦ section. Bottom line, they are working on it without a specific time to resolution given.
They temporarily lifted culling less than 2 weeks ago in Frostgorge. It was glorious!

Actually at launch we could much much farther than we can now.
I use to be able to stand on the bank steps in Lion’s Arch and see someone running up the ramp to the Lion statue. Then they started blipping out halfway across the arced bridge. Then the people by the Mystic Forge disappeared. Now with a crowd around I can’t see to the bottom steps.
I imagine it’s as more and more players joined the game they had to dial it back. Ah well, growing pains, what you gonna do XD

Culling refers to the draw distance of other players. We saw this in WvW with the ‘invisible army’ effect that was eliminated back in March.

I wish I could blame culling for world bosses having low players, but then i realized my server is just that dead

Colin referenced this in the recent blog post, its still a goal for them.
Issues that have to deal with the core engine of the game are extremely complex, and when they finally push them through it could have a major impact on performance if not done properly, this will take time.

For sure but I do find it interesting that a couple of patches ago they did announce it for PvE and then said no- not right now.
Suddenly it is bumped to the bottom of the year list of stuff.
That tells me it was not as easy s they thought
If culling lifted tomorrow in PvE no one would ever complain about an empty server again.
I remember launch and there was no culling
I joined a public bounty a few days ago… we were stalking trillia until everyone got there. she got culled out frequently. in pve, why would other players ever take precedence over a major npc? If they just prioritized npcs instead of players (meaning that it only shows players outside your party once all the npcs are displayed), that would fix 90% of the pve culling issues.
