in almost every(actually every) mmorpg i’ve played PvE exists for 2 major things:
farming gold to buy gear or skill scrolls, or farming bosses around the game world for little perks that make you slightly better at pvp.
right now as a level 80 with 90% exotics(only thing left being a few trinkets, which wouldn’t add much to my damage output or reduction) i’m wondering what it is. sure, karma trains have a use: for a legendary. but considering legendaries are for animations only(yes, they have the same stats) i’m wondering why bother with pve at all? to max my crafting? for what i’m already level 80 and it’s more expensive to craft it than to buy it. with 12g to my name i have almost everything I need, save for 1-2 weapon skins. somebody help me out here?

that wasn’t exactly what i was implying. i’m merely going on what every other game is like that i’ve played.

get dungeon tokens for the look.
start a guild to prepare for wvwvw raids.
and spvp tournament; get a big team of people you can team up with and discuss strategie and get some ranks in paid tourneys.
explore the map.
finish your personal story.
do a new toon from another race/class.
or, grind fractal to the highest level possible for the skill challenge.

these are just some possibilities.

That’s sorta how it came out though. If you only see PvE as a “grind to gear up for PvP”, you’re not going to be able to enjoy it. If, however, you see it as a fun challenge and you enjoy exploring the in-game world and lore…

GW2 includes the following optional activities.
1) WvWvW.
2) PvP.
3) Crafting.
4) Dungeons.
5) Personal Story.
6) Obtaining Exotic, Ascended, or Legendary equipment.
7) Cosmetic improvements for your character. (Some people have real talent at this)
8) World exploration.
9) Guilds.
10) Friends.
11) Dynamic events and heart quests.
12) The temples of Orr.
13) Achievements.
14) Playing TP tycoon.
15) Helping downed players in the starting zones.
16) Veteran and champion bosses.
17) FotM.
18) 5 sets of racial lore.
There are several I couldn’t remember but this list should be sufficient. GW2 is a collection of optional activities. You may complete as many or a few as you desire. When you have complete all the activities that interest you, then you have beaten the game. Since there is no subscription you don’t even need to hurry.

It’s a game, its purpose is to entertain people. I play GW2 PvE for the same reason I play single-player RPGs, with the additional facet of being able to play with others; I like doing quests, exploring, and reading stories, and just about anything else the game offers in that context.
I’m personally not a fan of MMOs that have gear as the “goal” vs just enjoying the game for the game’s sake, but then that’s probably another person’s version of fun, even if it isn’t mine.

I think you have completely missed the point of what an MMO game is. Have you tried playing FPS, RTS or fighting games? I find those might be more your type.

Some of us like to explore the world, thrash up some mobs, meet with people, or just do stuff with a friend or two. If these things don’t interest you, then you’re obviously playing the wrong game.

This is the deal with Guild Wars franchise:

You “finish” one character and you create the next one. Fortunatelly, GW2 encourages this by giving you different levelling experience for, at least, each of your basic five character slots.

So, pick your favourite Armour and create all classes from that Armour and one from each of the other Armours(for example-create a Ranger a Thief and an Engineer and a Guardian and an Elementalist). If your chosen Armour happens to be Heavy Armour, just create Four instead of five classes and wait for the Third Heavy Armour class.

Oh and simply because you PREFER PvP, does not make it better. That’s Like saying that Picasso is better than DaVinci(tastes really). I PREFER PvE and crafting and Trade Post Tycoon and Storylines. PvP is YUCK YUCK! for me(am not competitive person-AT ALL!). So treat others accordingly to the Golden Rule and all will be k!

Tastes differ after all! There are some lunatics that don’t Like Bugatti Veyron(LOLOLOL! What nonsense!), after all…

PvP is what is boring and that is regardless of everything. PvE is entertaining however.
People enjoy different things and have different ways to get to what they want. Not everyone thinks the same and thank goodness for that.

There is plenty to do in PvE that is fun and not grindy, perhaps you don’t enjoy those things, but they are there and others do enjoy them. Just like you may enjoy PvP and others don’t

Well, I don’t really plan on doing any sort of PvP, and I find PvE really interesting. So I guess you’re wrong.

I’m working on 100% map completion on one character… and I’m taking my time at it. Maybe I’m easily amused, but I love finding all the little nooks and crannies of the world, talking to the named characters to learn about the places I visit, stumbling across the special achievements (I got the jackalope one and that “kings chamber” one at that dwarven archaeological dig site), and overhearing snippets of conversation.

Those conversational snippets are really a fine touch IMO. I doubt most people even pay attention to them. Some might even find it annoying. I like it, and it shows a level of attention to detail that pleases me.

So I’m wrong because someone else has a different opinion? That makes sense.

To me, it’s boring because there doesn’t seem to be any challenging content. I have done all the dragon meta events and they all seem to be nothing but a zerg-fest. You can sit there and auto attack the whole time and maybe dodge a few red circles. From the bosses I have done it’s the same thing. Only mechanics bosses seem to have is a big health pool and they hit hard. In my opinion, that’s not all too challenging. Where are other mechanics that make encounters fun?

Don’t even say go to Orr. I have been there and there is hardly anyone there. Everyone sits in Cursed Shore farming those two events or they are in Lions Arch spamming map with LFG.

The game is great, don’t get me wrong. But in my opinion, it lacks in something and missing it’s stick.

So if sheep stand pointlessly in LA doing nothing at all, you have TWO choices then:

A) Prove that YOU are not one of them. Find a group of Like-minded people and form a Guild/find such a Guild. I really think GW2 shines in 6 Man groups instead of 24+ players piontless Zerg. So go and find it!
B) Prove that YOU are one of them. Go around and moan and spam LFG in LA and do nothing at all. Proceed telling that game “sucks”.

The choice is YOURS mate! Bear it well…

Competitive players (who which to play against each other) have PvP and PvW.

Those that don’t wish to compete or want to do something else have PvE.

I suppose PvE serves more than one role, its there for your to level your toon and for those that have no interest in playing the other modes.

gw2 pve has an awesome base

love the combat, the world, the events. its just lacks general things to do needs more small things IMO. for LOTRO as an example loved despite being a grind all the deeds that gave you titles or virtues, all the lore intensive quests and how the cosmetic options. really wish gw2 had some of those. despite being a sandbox mmo it feels like you are pushed in some linear path through the world and theres no reason to stay back and explore aslong as they percent is at 100. i would like to hear stories from people talking about items they found that didnt take crazy skill but look good but were achieved through a sense of exploration. have more to say but cbf thinking lol

You didn’t say “PvE is boring to me” or “for me” or “since I don’t plan”. You said it is boring, especially if you (meaning people other than yourself) don’t PvP.

Since I am someone other than you and don’t PvP, but don’t find PvE boring, your statement is false. Making you wrong.

I love GW2 PvE as it is a good playground for me and my friends to play some coop games out of FPS games. Especially nowadays FPS game is going down in teamwork and tactics elements. In GW2 we found unparalleled tactics cooperate level than every MMO and FPS we’ve played. Yes I know someone will pop up trinity and yes it is teamwork but no there are very few tactics involved. Real tactics include high chances of randomness to allow a lots of immediate decision making which so far me and my buddies only found in GW2.

I think you can safely assume that 99% of all posters on internet forums are offering their opinion, even when they don’t preface their statements with imo. The posts that are not opinion stand out, because they will have some factual content in the form of video, link, numbers, or answers to questions about the game (i.e., “To bind a key, do x.” not “Roll warrior for easy mode.”)

And whether or not someone says “IMO” or not, a statement is either, by definition, a factual statement or an opinion. Only factual statements can be true or false.

“Risen zombie mechanics drop two gold” is a factual statement. It is also false; I just made it up.

“PvE is easier than PvP” is an opinion. It is likely a very widely held opinion, but it is still not a matter of truth or falsehood. One cannot correctly say “that is false”; rather, the correct words are “I disagree”.
