Hey guys i just started playing again, only to realize there is no one to play with. I started a ranger (he’s close to lvl 20) and I’ve seen maybe 5-6 people while leveling. No one to do those grouped dynamic events with. Anyways can anyone suggest a server that might be more active in PvE?

Everyone is max level doing endgame or WvW stuff.

Doing endgame? What game are you playing? Are you playing another game that has actual endgame, than you should mention it. Like this:

Everyone is max level and as they are bored, they are doing endgame in some other MMOs or WvW stuff.

Guest on one of the super busy servers for a chance at seeing someone while levelling. Good luck, as everyone is max level and bored there too…

I like how you directly state that everyone is bored at level 80 in the game. Everyone is not max level and everyone is not bored. Percentages vary with who you ask.

I am very sorry. English is not my native language, so maybe my way to transmit information is sort of inefficient. This might cause some minor cofusions about what I say and what I mean.

What I wanted to say is that maybe not everyone is max level, but surely everyone is bored.

No you are saying you are bored.

OP – it depends a lot on your server and also in which races areas you play- some are a lot more busy than others.
There are generally people around in Queensdale and Wayfarers Foothills for example.

Many people have also been extremely involved in the sacking of LA and the events surrounding that.
now that this is over I suspect that people will spread out a bit.

Guest to a couple of servers and see how the population is- keep in mind that different server have different focus.
So a server that is heavily into WvW or PvP might not have a high PvE pop- while PvE heavy servers might suck at WvW

Call out events in map too- more often than not there are people around that you just don’t see and they will come running

Please don’t make this into another “all players left because they’re bored, the game is dead” -thread. The game isn’t “dead”, and I don’t think the OP wanted this thread to go that way.

Nevertheless; players being densely populated around the focal points of the latest release or patch – while other more remote areas are left empty and desolated – is a problem that needs attention!

That there’s less people playing old content than there is people playing new content is only natural. You’ll find it any MMO. But there are ways to compensate for this fact.
My suggestion is to partly bring back the cross-server “international districs” system, similiar to GW1. If you combine all EU and NA servers (aka ‘worlds’) into one common district system, you could suddently have every map (including the racial cities) feel alive and vibrant again.
I do understand that this causes some issues with feeling connected with your world and obviously some dev. effort. But regarding WvW and releases; the worlds could still be kept separated.
And since GW2 is based upon the same platform as GW1 was, I can’t see it being impossible to implement?

Let the Kings and Queens of other lands and lesser creatures
witness our wonders and cry out in astonishment and humble themselves.
Beware our mighty works.

I used to think this but I’ve found as I’ve played the game longer that PVE is busier than I first thought.

1) Learn how to use the ‘Map’ chat function. Anything you see in red is someone on the same map as you, people will post waypoints that are close to group events, people will be asking for help on map completion, etc etc. Same thing goes for you, if you see a champion you want to take on then you can type into map chat for help. This is normally helped if you press Shift/Control (I forget which) + click on the waypoint which will add it to your chat line.

2) Try to join a guild. It doesn’t have to be a massive dungeon-doing guild, in fact you want the opposite. Find a small group of people that aren’t obsessed with doing speedruns, etc and try to get some help in world completion, etc.

3) Most importantly, try to get a friend to play. I know this isn’t always possible but you may be surprised how many people this game appeals to. I showed it to my girlfriend who has never played games in her life and now she has her own custom-built rig and is completely hooked on it with her own level 71 Guardian after only a couple of weeks. Pretty much all PvE content is do-able in a 2-man team so it really helps if you have a friend to go through it with you, preferably someone you’re comfortable skyping with so you don’t have to constantly type.

4) Don’t give up, this game WILL surprise you. My girlfriend and I were completing the Hirathi Hinterlands last night and came to the final skill point and point of interest we needed in the North East of the map. We’d done tons of events during the evening but not really seen many people other than ourselves. We get to the last bit and a massive gate is closed and won’t open so we figure it’s something to do with an event that was just starting. Before we know it we’re fighting a Champion Hirathi, then holding off hordes of Centaurs, then we go back into the main bit to see 3 Champion War Beasts and all of a sudden we’ve gone from 5 of us doing the event to 25+. Once we took the beasts down we had to destroy this massive Earth Elemental thing followed by another Champion Centaur.

It took about 30 mins to do all of it and it was really intense at times but I really have never experienced anything like it. It has completely relit my love for this game and I can’t wait to find more events like this.

Sorry to ruin the magic, but that centaur boss is tracked by every boss tracker website (eg. GW2 Stuff), and those people that appeared out of nowhere at the very end were just world boss farmers (since that’s the only part that gets flagged). They just wanted their daily chest…

Try guesting to other servers to see which ones have more people on when you’re on. That’s usually the biggest culprit: time zones. Also, try joining a Guild that has a big presence on the server you decide to transfer to. Helps if they have Ventrilo or Teamspeak since most serious guilds utilize those.

Does it matter? If there’s people like that around then that means that these events will stay alive. I probably won’t return to Hirathi Hinterlands for a while now that I’ve 100%‘d it, but as long as the ’Event trackers’ keep going there then new people will continue to experience the event like I did rather than missing out on a brilliant part of the game. I don’t give a kitten if people want a chest or not, what does it matter to me if 25 different people are there for different reasons, so long as we kill a boss it makes no difference.

I don’t understand your point.

It would be best for the game if world-specific instances of the world maps were axed and all maps just filled overflow servers. Then you would much less frequently encounter empty maps, even on low pop worlds. Worlds only really have meaning for WvW.

A good guild is the solution to your problems. One that actually enjoys the game and wants to build a strong community.

These guilds do exist.

Guilds that run regular dungeon paths for lowbies. Members that will stop what they are doing to help out with an event you are trying to complete. Guilds that help members progress and complete the personal story. Members that will spend 1-2hrs with you just keeping you company while you level up giving tips on your class. Guilds that set up tPvP groups, hold custom PvP tournaments, roam WvW, etc. Guilds that have regular community building activities, like scavenger hunts, competitions, with monetary or rare item prizes.

I can see GW2 being less fun for someone who strictly plays solo. It’s all about the interaction with people that will make this game awesome for you.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

I also suggest joining an active guild. Ferg Crossing has a good number of active guilds EDGE, WZ and AoE (my guild, shameless plug). We still get a good number of new people to the game joining. Also I just wanted to say that your play time matters as well, as during the day (USA, EST) our server does tend to have low population, might be best to guest during those hours, however during prime hours FC does get quite busy! feel free to contact me in game (Medazolam)

Sadly PVE on GW2 is really going to hell, who doesn’t like much PVP really have no choice than grind for gear, as we feel like in a singleplayer game while exploring PVE.
I can recommend you to get in a guild to try to find people to play with, but as said, majority of people are focused on other things.

There is also low pop in some GW2 servers, as i just transfer ed from a server we could not even succeed at meta events with much need of Guest in other servers to finish some stuff.

Also on FC, the world boss train has really created a atmosphere where people wait for reset to do the big world boss events/temples. While it is great that the serve does all the events everyday, again great, unless you are there for the reset train, you might have a hard time finding others to do the event.

Yeah, it ain’t that special in the end. And wow, at that attitude.

I would like to know your definition of ‘special’ as you seem to be hard to impress. The OP raised concern that he never got to do group events so I shared with him one of the experiences I’ve had so that he would have some reassurance that PvE is not always empty. Whether they’re genuine players or event trackers it doesn’t matter, it would be very difficult to co-ordinate having 25+ people in one area at the same time without the help of event trackers.

I’ve done Queensdale quite a bit and haven’t been impressed at all. First couple of times it was like “yay, people are here”. Then the realisation came that it was just button mashing without being able to see anything.

The Hirathi chain on the other hand I thought required a bit more co-ordination. I actually had to dodge attacks for once and controlling the 3 war beasts wasn’t ‘difficult’ but it was challenging at times (bearing in mind I’m a dagger ele).

Stop being a troll. You’re obviously dodging around the point of his story. We all live for those moments in the game. Who cares what those people are doing. Its about your experience, not theirs. Just ignore him, he realized he was wrong and is resulting to insults to try to make himself seem like a big man.

I love when those things happen though, I’ve had it before, or when you spend hours trying to defeat something and failing and then when all odds are against you, you somehow defeat it. I’ve taken screenshots of these moments that may be meaningless to someone else but not to me. Wish they came more often though ;P

You had to be here on release, now adays everyone just farms specific events.
If you go on Queensdale for example at any time of the day there’s a group of people farming champions there.

What I wanted to say is that maybe not everyone is max level, but surely everyone is bored.

I have 5 lvl 80 and I’m not bored, then again I have 1200 hours played across 520 ish days because I don’t have any more free time.

Why are you bored?

Grind like crazy for gold?
Grind like crazy for mats?

Technically, if a game is still online, it’s not really dead. All MMOs have people; they just might not have very many. If there’s still one player left, then I guess the game is not dead, so yeah, GW2 and various other MMOs are not dead.
