Right, greetings people. Short explanation of the title, further details coming up – PvP in Guild Wars 2 at the moment is like this – If you don’t want to PvE, as it is tremendously time consuming and utterly boring on your own, you pretty much can’t do more than tournaments & server pvp as World vs World first of all, doesn’t unlock utility skills but boosts your stats to 80 (Complete nonsense much????) secondly, you have to level up your weapon skills (With that being said, yes – That is not a huge concern however it is still absurd.) and thirdly, apparently PvE’ers get the upper hand in WvW based on bonus items, back / amulet / ring etc. Now quite frankly I don’t see how that makes any sense that they should be rewarded in PvP for …What? Spending hours facerolling in random events? I mean no disrespect to PvE’ers but I really think PvP’ers should be allowed to participate in WvW without being forced to PvE.
And PvP’ers can’t actually wear the items they possibly spent weeks on crafting, nor the proper runes. I’m sorry but the way I see it – I might be wrong here, but quite frankly WvW was designed for PvE’ers, not PvP’ers. Because I don’t see anything that PvP’ers have to actually gain from this. In addition some arguments I had with friends which more or less point out that the tournaments etc are the more competitive side of Guild Wars 2 which is I guess alright, and the WvW being a part of the PvE. But looking at it this way – It’s PvP, but not for the hardcore PvP’ers? I really think some changes need to be made, if necessary allow PvP’ers to join WvW from Heart Of The Mists and in some way allowing them to enter with their runes, armour and utility skills instead of forcing them to PvE. Quite frankly I think if a change like this was to be made, population most likely would increase rather than decrease, I’m sorry to say I have been a witness to server population falling drastically across multiple servers, seems a pretty good time to start listening to the community. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way.

Side note about tournaments – Paid Tournaments require a premade and 5 tickets each, quite frankly I don’t mind the ticket price as It’s not an issue when you can purchase them for a small amount and can (depending on whether you got a premade or not) easily farm the tickets. But due to the social aspect in this game being quite bad compared to almost all MMORPG’s It’s difficult for people to find a proper gaming core, in which case paid tournaments will be played by very few people compared to what it could be like, if it was made possible even for pugs to queue for paid tournaments I mean hell, so what if they get a reward for losing the first round – They paid the ticket price and they should atleast get a reward for that, otherwise what’s the point in them getting tickets in the first place? | Argument I’ve heard against this – When you do paid tournaments you want to face better players, and perhaps the best of the best etc. | I agree with this argument however I don’t see how that changes much as pugs will most likely in a lot of cases go out in the first round so you’ll still get to face the better teams, perhaps not every round, but being realistic – It’s nice with a calm fight every now and then.

Anyway that was pretty much all I had to say for now.

- Note there is no dissatisfaction from my side with the pvp itself, I think It’s great and I know the idea of WvW interests me like mad but I do not under any circumstances, have the time nor the lust to level in PvE in order to play it.

I actually enjoy PvE, I can see I’m in the minority about that though, sadly most others seem to not like PvE that much. I can understand your frustration, though. Playing PvP offers no progression anywhere else, which kind of drives me away from it. Half the time I spend in WvW is running around trying to reach a battle only to be killed along the way. I’m also very bad at PvP. That’s why I like PvE the most. But again, I think you’re right. I think you should be rewarded in WvW from PvP in addition from PvE.

I need a story to go on if I am to play PvE, and the only story in Guild Wars 2 is the class story, which quite frankly Isn’t all that good. I used to play SWTOR from the beginning, the story imo in all ways was epic in swtor, both the planet-side stories and the class stories. However the pvp bit lacked content whereas GW2 has the content, but the PvP’ers don’t have proper access to all branches of PvP which I really find a shame. And having played Warhammer, I’d love to do WvW. The WvW content is epic, and could be taken way more advantage of as “attraction-factor” in the sense of players. It’s all I’m suggesting, allow PvP’ers to be on equal ground with PvE’ers in WvW and not forcing them into playing an aspect of the game they don’t have either time, or lust to play.

Note – If you’re bad at pvp you can always look for help. I’m always willing to help, although I have to give another example of where the social aspect fails – About 4-6 days ago a person whispered me asking me how I managed to get different looking gear from PvP, and 1-2 weeks before that I recieved an identical whisper. These are the only 2 whispers I’ve actually gotten from people I didn’t already know before I started Guild Wars 2. It’s a shame because I’d be happy to help.

WvW is not meant to be balanced or competitive. therefore, it’s not “serious” PvP. just like PvE isn’t really serious (personally, i play about 90-95% PvE).

PvP on guildwars 2 is really on its bad side. I remember how much fun it was on GW1 . Actually that game was all ’bout PvP. Combos, tactics and other stuff .. good times. Anyway..

sPvP is a mess. 8v8 matches are horrible! Nothing matters .. build, skill or anything. You just get rapped by 3 or 4 players and thats about it. Its a bit better in 5v5 but still .. capturing points? its boring! everyone just runs around and captures them not even fighting.! We need normal 4v4 team deathmath arenas. Both random and ranked. We need GvG and HoH .. all the stuff that made GW1 amazing PvP game.

I am PvP player and i had soooo much hopes for PvP here.. and now im forced to play PvE because of how poor PvP is here. Also huge skill pools got reduced to few skill of which even fewer are useful so basically everyone is using same skills at the moment because other are useless or not working.

Sad,sad.. if u ask me. Very sad.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

Unfortunately, Wv3 is a PvPvE setup. Essentially, it’s GW2’s answer to PvP servers in other games, with events, mobs and opposing players, all with a healthy dose of siege stuff going on. Personally, i would prefer more separation of PvE from PvP than Wv3 provides. I very much enjoyed PvE exploration in GW1, but knowing that I have to Wv3 to get exploration in GW2 makes me sad.

Also, I liked Alliance Battles from GW1, which are the closest thing to Wv3 in the older game. Wv3, however, is often horribly unbalanced in numbers, which is anti-fun for me. Silly me, I didn’t do the Wv3 exploring when HoD owned its Wv3 maps. As such, from the PvE side, I side with the OP who is essentially asking for less of the PvE influence in Wv3.

Wv3, however, is often horribly unbalanced in numbers, which is anti-fun for me.

That particular problem most likely could be solved by letting the PvP’ers participate on equal ground rather than forcing them to do PvE.

But aye the exploration in an area like that is quite silly but tbh I think there are a lot of things that need to change, no matter how you put it – How would it not benefit GW2 if the PvP’ers could actually participate in WvW rather than just being stuck doing Tournaments / Spvp?

As a Fort Aspenwood fan, I like the WvWvW setup. But there’s some valid points mentioned here. I’d suggest the following:

- PvP should reward at least experience for your actual character.
- At that point it should also provide PvE gear, one way or another. Two options:
- 1) Allow PvP characters to use their unlocked items in PvE. PvP lvl should then probably correspond with the item level in some way?
- 2) Allow all crafting materials to be bought with PvP points. This might promote PvP as a method to get the materials you lack (not sure whether PvP’ers would mind?) and allow PvP’ers to craft their “real” armor.

Until then, just level up through WvW, unlock your skills there, and get armor from the rewards you get there. Provided your server doesn’t have queues, even a lvl 1 in whites can help out – be it by manning siege, running supplies or just tossing red circles to keep your enemy’s endurance low. Arguably, until you get maxed lvl/gear, a PvP’er will make up for it by his PvP skill.
