PvE & WvW: Would you sPvP if rewarded badges of honor?
Depends. I generally do not enjoy PvP (outside of Activities), and I pretty much just get my Badges via AP chests and a daily run through Obsidian Sanctum. I already avoid most fights in WvW; you’d need to give me LOTS of Badges of Honor (even on a loss) to get me to step into sPvP.
Nope, no interest in sPvP.
When I’m in the mood to play against other players, I play Dota2.
Zaxares
i see, thanks for your feedback!
another “what if” question if u dun mind, approximately how many badges of honor for participation would entice you to participate in sPvP more often?
Hobbitz,
well personally i find dota2 a bit too hardcore for my casualness though.
Well, how long does a typical sPvP match take? I can complete Obsidian Sanctum in < 10 minutes for 15+ Badges; a sPvP match would need to provide at least 10 on a loss for the same amount of time (and 20 – 30 on a win) for me to consider it worth it.

around 10 minutes on average.
well, for comparison purposes, obsidian sanctum chest is only 15+ badges per 24 hours.
if we could gain badges of honor from sPvP, it would definitely not be 15+ per 24 hour.
then again, if there is simply badges of honor for participation, i think some people may just join in and not really put in effort, they just want the badges of honor.
i think, if sPvP should reward badges, it should only comes from winning solo arena games and team arena games.
what do you think?
Nope, I’m completely happy gathering them via wvw. sPVP has never interested me as a game mode, alas, and I love our wvw community.
No. I have more then I need just sitting in storage.
Wish you could send them to me, ShiningSquirrel. I still need 800 more…
miriya,
i see. thanks for sharing your preference!
ShiningSquirrel,
aye, thanks for the feedback!
so not everyone wants more badges of honor.
Zaxares,
you building more legendary weapons? O_O
not much feedback, when compared against “why do you not play sPvP” topic so i guess badges of honor as part of sPvP rewards does not seems to be attractive.
No.
The rewards have nothing to do with my lack of interest in SPvP. The other players are why I don’t play. I just don’t like PvPing with strangers, either as teammates or opponents, and this game doesn’t offer me any options to just knock a private match out with a friend.
And no, the ridiculously expensive temporary private arena rooms aren’t a valid solution for that problem.
(edited by Melchior.2135)
Rewards are a secondary, or tertiary, concern for me. I do not find the current implementation of sPvP to be fun. It would take more than badges of honor to get me into sPvP.
In the why you don’t sPvP thread it seemed clear to me that the primary reason most players did not play sPvP was not the rewards. It was more game play related (no build variety, no multiple game styles, etc).
You’re idea would likely grab a small portion of players but not many and there would be the temporary ones if losses granted badges. People going for legendaries probably wouldn’t mind getting badges in sPvP for losses since losses in WvW do not grant badges of honor if they were not a fan of WvW.
Badges of Honor were officially made worthless as a currency when Anet started giving tons of them away in achievement chests. You probably can’t incentivize any activity using Badges of Honor at this point, much less the failed sPvP.
Melchior, Ashen, Seera, Lord Kuru,
thanks for the feedback! much appreciated!
Moderator,
this question is intended for PvE / WvW players who seldom or do not play sPvP, please move back into general discussions (PvE forum).
thank you.
No because i’ve already tons of stack of badges of honors of wvw. I dont think ppl play WvW because it rewards. WvW is just fun to play.
if you wanna ask that question you should post it on pve/wvw forums…<_<
[Teef] guild :>
He got trolled by a moderator, heuhuehueue.
this badges are useless – i have a lot and nothing i can buy with this
Pvp shouldn’t be based on any rewards, God almighty, playing a game should be it’s own reward.
I already have a job where they need to reward me with money to encourage me to go, I don’t want/need that here.
rhodoc,
thanks for the feedback!
Cynz,
i originally posted it in the general discussions (PvE) forums. T_T
KarlaGrey,
aye, they got me good. >.<
Romek,
well, PvE / WvW players may buy something with them, who knows, maybe in the future, badges of honor could be used for various sPvP items as well? O_O
azuzephyr,
i can agree with that, but some rewards would not hurt if it helps to attract more players. but based on the few feedback i received from the general discussions (PvE) forum i think most people would not be attracted by badges of honor.
thanks again everyone for providing feedback!
No.
Badges of honor aren’t worth much other than for buying cheap siege.
If ascended gear starts to be purchasable with badges of honor (but without big laurel costs) then and only then do they become interesting.
Karma is a more interesting reward than badges, but activities already give karma and they are sorta pvp.
Am interested in seeing what the new rewards system looks like.
What would they have to implement for you to come tpvp?
If there would be any game modes beside conquest, maybe…but running to and standing in points is not really what i want to do…Obsidian Sanctum arena is about everything i need right now.
/edit: Also i’d like to have more build options in sPvP.

What would they have to implement for you to come tpvp?
The best thing they could do is to start giving pvp players some attention; treat them like real competitors by giving them the limelight (figuratively and with streamed tourneys) so they stop feeling like an underclass and get a real, visible, place in the community.
It’s great to spew rewards to get new players into the mists, and we are still getting record numbers from the recent changes, but it does nothing to address the hemorrhaging of good players and the severe lack of dedication to raising the level of play.
Why does sPvP need a PvE/WvW audience?
no.
At least, not until they have a dependable way to go with my friends.
Between WvW and keeping up with Living Story as best as I can, who has time for sPvP?
No.
Rewards don’t make the actual format more or less fun. It is a very gimmicky pvp format that I do not find fun. Activities in this game offer a far more balanced playing field than sPvP will ever be able to offer.

Badges of Honor don’t have much value.
So no, there’s not much incentive for PvE players like me.
I have enough from AP chests and the times I tried WvW for Map Completion.
They still sit in the wallet, haven’t been touched at all.
no, i would pvp and wvwvw if the maps were accesible via the “open world” and had an influence on the world and pve setting. this could be achieved via pve based rewards attained via pvp but it would not be enough… the pvp and wvwvw minigames should be more attached to the gw2 world… otherwise… fail
I would probably try sPVP if ANET share PvP and PvE characters (like PvE and WvW). I’m not really interested in a dual character (different exp type or rank is probably ok). I want to use my build with my gear etc. But for this BiS gear should be easily accessible so this will not happened with ascended. And, I guess, there are many other reasons why they separated it.
Reward doesn’t really matter.
I’ve already got badges out the wazoo but I’m really enjoying the new glory rewards in sPvP
(edited by Karizee.8076)
I think for me time is an issue. I can’t play all day long. I have limited number of hours and so try to do what I want. I love WvW, so I spend time there. I was working toward a legendary so spent a lot of time farming for gold and mats.
I haven’t had an interest in PvP for a few reasons. First, I jumped in there while I was a new player and had no idea what to do, got murdered many times, and left, pretty much crying and thinking the game in general was unfun and scary (I’m not a gamer, so ya, it’s intimidating). Second, I have bad nerves, and regardless of the fact that I am now quite competent in the general game, when I get into 1v1 fights I tend to panic and can’t find the keys I want or hit the wrong keys. And then I’m dead. The good players are just too good for me. Third, what I do there has no bearing on the rest of the game, so why bother UNLESS I want to improve my fighting abilities against other players, which I can also learn as I play in WvW, where I what I do DOES have a bearing on the rest of the game.
TL;DR. I feel PvP is for people who enjoy that type of play. I think the player base of GW2 consists of many people like me, who enjoy the “casual” aspects of the game, and don’t want to feel the pressure of PvP fighting. If I want pressure, I’ll go to work, thanks!
Oh, to answer the question in the OP, badges of honor would not make any difference to me, since I can earn those in an area that I truly enjoy: WvW.
No. Generally, you get plenty of badges from WvW and there’s really not much to spend them on, especially once you realize that the exotics can’t be thrown into the mystic forge or salvaged.
I tried to do some hot joins this weekend and always got stuck in an empty arena. Honestly, that kinda turned me off.
Nope. Only reason I play wvw is if I can be in a zerg. Only solo thing I’ll do is dolyaks/sentries. I hate pvp in general, cuz’ I suck at pvp. At least with a fps its more of an equal footing between players (still not equal, but at least closer).
Please give us a keyring…
WvW offers everything I would want for PvP in GW2. sPvP is pointless, and I refuse to take part in something that so adversely affects the rest of the game because of “balancing”
dear PvE / WvW players,
would you be inclined to participate, play sPvP more often if you have a good chance to earn some badges of honor from there?
yes? no? why?
just a simple “what if” question to think about.
thank you for reading!
No. The badges are mostly useless already. To make me deal with shoddy BG/Arena PvP would require unique rewards that were relatively easy to get. And even then I doubt I would subject myself to that community.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
WvW offers everything I would want for PvP in GW2. sPvP is pointless, and I refuse to take part in something that so adversely affects the rest of the game because of “balancing”
This. If only Anet would finally admit at sPvP has epically failed and start supporting WvW as the primary PvP game mode the game would be in a much better place.
Nope. It’s not fun. Besides that, I have thousands of the things and nothing to spend them on.
I personally enjoy and prefer WvW for my Gw2 pvp needs don’t need the badges, but when I get that itch to pvp in a more competitive setting I usually play Smite or Dota 2. I do dabble in Spvp once in a while to experiment with builds for all my classes but get bored quickly with there only being 1 game mode and it being very gimmicky and spammy.

No. Badges of Honor aren’t really worth much to be honest. I’ve had enough to gear up five level 80’s twice over and still plenty left over to buy siege and traps.
I just don’t find sPvP that interesting. Even when they started rewarding gold last patch I popped in for a little while but just didn’t enjoy myself so I left soon after.
I honestly couldn’t tell you what would encourage me to play sPvP.
Here’s a few points on why I don’t like sPvP (I like bullet points):
- I can’t mix and match my gear the way I can in PvE/WvW
- Every class is either a nuker or a bunker, there’s no variety
- There’s a disconnect between sPvP and the rest of the game
They should have just launched sPvP as a separate game altogether and called it Guild Wars 2 Arena, charged $20 and gave it their own resources to upkeep and maintain. By doing so they could have balanced the two games completely separate from each other, using the same professions as templates but having complete freedom over the rest of it that wouldn’t interfere with the PvE/WvW game and vice/versa.
No. Badges are already super easy to get
As a WvW player, no, I already have thousands of badges lying around doing nothing.
If I was an exclusive PvE player who is in a dead server/tier(with not much big fights going on, or the zerg for my server sucks and always wipes), Yes.
@Deimos: I’m actually saving up the badges to buy a PVT Invader’s armor set for my 5 characters. (I want a “generic” armor set I can fall back on if Berserker’s/Condi/Cleric’s/etc. isn’t suitable, and I need more armor sets to store my armor skins on anyway.) The irony is that I would have enough by now, if I hadn’t run out of bank space some months ago and foolishly decided to convert them to 4 Gifts of Battle instead. :P
nekretaal,
so if ascended armor, weapons could be purchased via badges of honor without required too many laurels, you might consider sPvP? if sPvP rewards badges of honor.
CachoDm,
i dunno, i dun have a team yet.
lavra,
i see. your primary issue is game modes.
and more viable builds for sPvP.
ens,
i think they are working on new game modes and eventually ladder, but i also think various balance issues must be addressed properly first so all 8 professions are viable.
as for more limelight, i think the core issues must be solved first before giving more limelight. i think.
Geff,
because sPvP population is quite low when compared against PvE / WvW population and attracting new players from existing PvE / WvW is one of the most immediate method to help increase the sPvP population.
Ashabhi,
oh, what do you mean? are you referring to hotjoin games?
you and your friends may join a same team in hotjoin games, well, usually at the start of a match.
if you joined in halfway you may need to play until the match is over until the next map change. then have all your friends join the same team in the next map.
VOLKON,
hmmm good point. that is why i only do PvE daillies, sPvP daillies, clear monthlies and living stories nowadays.
Mireles Lore,
i see. so for you, conquest game mode is the main issue.
as well as balance, since not all 8 professions are balanced properly.
Atlas,
so for you, rewards is your priority.
would you consider sPvP if badges of honor have more purchasing power?
say, badges of honor can be used to buy ascended armor, weapons.
or even heavily time gated precursor fragments?
for example, 1000 badges of honor, buy 1 precursor fragment, can only buy 1 per day, time gated. accumulate 50 – 250 precursor fragments to build precursor weapon of choice.
number of fragments required would depend on market rate of precursors on the trading post.
Dindin,
so distinctive lack of any real connection to the main open world PvE is your main concern.
so there needs to be more interlinking between sPvP and PvE in order to catch your interest, yes?
WRay,
reward is not an issue for you, but the difference in stats? because sPvP and PvE / WvW have very different stats allocation, for balance purposes i reckon.
because, currently, in sPvP, sPvP armor has no stats, stats comes from the sPvP amulet + jewel.
would you consider sPvP if the sPvP stats are spread out across all 6 trinket slots? the amulet, back, 2 rings, 2 accessories, complete with jewels, more combination then?
Karizee,
ooo thanks for the feedback!
do you mean the new gold rewards?
because glory will be removed in the future.
ozmaniandevil,
so you prefer WvW more than sPvP.
and perhaps some people find sPvP a bit stressful.
also thanks for sharing your sPvP experience with us!
TooBz,
what if,
the exotics can be thrown in the mystic forge?
there are more things can be bought with badges?
when i check the game browser, i often find rooms with lots of players, how did you end up in rooms without players?
skullmount,
thanks for the feedback!
Neural,
so you think sPvP is pointless?
do you wish to elaborate more?
Aeonblade,
what if badges have more uses?
so you think there is something wrong with the sPvP community?
Lord Kuru,
well, not everyone enjoys large scale battles though clearly a lot of them do though.
Herr der Friedhoefe,
what would be fun to you?
what things do you want to buy with badges?
Deadcell,
would you consider sPvP if there are new game nodes?
no conquest with secondary objectives.
Elthurien,
what if stats are spread out across all 6 trinket slots instead of amulet + jewel? imagine
back + jewel, amulet + jewel, rings + jewels, accessories + jewels
the current conquest mode does kinda encourage bunker builds and burst builds though. need new game modes besides conquest.
as for “disconnect” between sPvp and PvE / WvW what do you think could be done to make it feel more “connect” with one another?
well too late to separate the game now. as it is, guild wars 2 feels like 3 games in 1, and the sPvP side needs more love.
style,
what would motivate you to play sPvP?
Izaya,
i see. thanks for the feedback!
what kind of things would entice you to play sPvP then?
Zaxares,
ooo i see. thanks for sharing!
ouch, that’s 2,000 badges of honor gone. O_O
dear PvE / WvW players,

No need for badges. They should just add other objectives for Spvp. The biggest turn off is the same kitten game mode every kitten matchup, its boring afer a while, espeially if its the only game mode after a years release.Same builds allover the place, louzy rewards ( yes 15 silver,i dont care about you ).At times its like playing the same matchup over and over.We need different types of game modes..
Deathmatch, Capture the flag, Holding objectives,a Kurzick – Luxons type of game mode where one team needs to hold a fort when the other is trying to breach it…the need to run ore to repair gates etc,Would make it so much more interesting..instead of capping points and holding them with your bunker build…Ugh,Spvp is a bore atm.

indeed. more than a year, still conquest mode. >.<
only spirit watch is a bit special with the spirit orb but it seems like not many people like that map, due to some professions are better at running the orb.
the new game modes better be good.
I already have tons of them, there’s no good use of them to spend. I only buy some sieges and sell on tp. 6 badge = 3 silver, doesn’t even worth it.
I would Spvp more if it awarded badges of honor.
