No, it wouldn’t change anything for me. It’s not the lack of rewards that pushes me away from sPvP, but I simply do not like its gameplay at all. Adding rewards won’t change that.

Atlas,
so for you, rewards is your priority.
would you consider sPvP if badges of honor have more purchasing power?
say, badges of honor can be used to buy ascended armor, weapons.
or even heavily time gated precursor fragments?

Actually PvE is my top priority.
Rewards are a secondary or tertiary priority, competing with storyline.

How does the game feed into my main addiction that is PvE?
Living Story pushes (slowly) the world along for PvE, so I play it.
sPvP doesn’t do much, if anything, to contribute to PvE.
Due to this there’s no motivation to play.
Also the game structure itself is not fun.

I don’t PvP. I barely cared for WvWvW, and Sanctum/Snowball fights are tolerable to me only because the reward chests sometimes give me a rare for salvage purposes and the occasional silver.

If Badges of Honor had more purchasing power, chances are I’d still not use them too much. The amount I have will be sufficient for The Flameseeker Prophecies legendary I’ll eventually acquire some decade from now.

So that’s probably the reason why I don’t mind Sanctum/Snowball/Dragonball. The games are structured better and pay gold, which I can use for whatever projects I’m working on.

Badges of Honor really do nothing and wouldn’t help incentivize me using them anyways since I have them bookmarked for my eventual long term project.

If ANet says I can use them for precursor, I’d still probably find some way to get what I need for a Legendary without playing sPvP. Once again the game mode just isn’t fun.

If ANet eventually says I can get my Legendary without using them that would further devalue the poor little tokens. They’ll collect dust much like the dungeon tokens I’ve accumulated so far.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

If they removed restrictions on the exotic weapons obtainable by badges, then badges would be more useful. So then it comes down to what I’m trying to do and how many badges PvP offered as compared to WvW among other things, so theoretically yes. I may play more PvP if they offered badges and something to purchase with badges.

Re: empty maps. I went to the hotjoin guy and hit “play now” or whatever the button is labeled in the lower right hand corner. Four times, three times I was taken to a map with 0 players on each side.

Anything I post is just the opinion of a very vocal minority of 1.

Aeonblade,
what if badges have more uses?

so you think there is something wrong with the sPvP community?

It’s not this game specifically, it’s the instanced PvP community in general in any game. The last good community based around that kind of PvP was WoW pre BC. Everything since has caused an influx of people from FPS games that constantly whine that things are unbalanced. It’s really something I actively avoid since there is no sense of community and every sense of hostility.

If they made ascended gear purchasable with badges and sPvP awarded massive amounts of them, I would put up with the game type and community for the reward. That’s about it.

Elthurien,
what if stats are spread out across all 6 trinket slots instead of amulet + jewel? imagine
back + jewel, amulet + jewel, rings + jewels, accessories + jewels

the current conquest mode does kinda encourage bunker builds and burst builds though. need new game modes besides conquest.

as for “disconnect” between sPvp and PvE / WvW what do you think could be done to make it feel more “connect” with one another?

well too late to separate the game now. as it is, guild wars 2 feels like 3 games in 1, and the sPvP side needs more love.

In response to the first two questions, what if instead of attributes being allocated by amulet and jewel, they follow the same recipe as the rest of the game? If I could use my PVT hat/coat/legs with Valkyrie Shoulders/Gloves/Boots with Valk gems in each, PVT weapons and Berserker Trinkets and Back, then I might be more interested in sPvP.

Even if this were done, I just don’t think I would be that interested in sPvP. If I want to play a match of conquest, I can do it in Battlefield4 with better graphics, better latency and a lot more interesting game-play involving Jets, Tanks and Assault choppers.

I just can’t get into fish bowl game modes. CTF, TDM, DM, King of the Hill, Conquest have all been done ad nauseam. Warhammer Online had a couple of interesting Scenarios, but nothing memorable enough for me to repeat, Alterac Valley from Warcraft was probably one of my favourites in the early days, but I doubt that would translate well in sPvP. Age of Conan had better open world PvP than it ever did with sPvP so there’s nothing there worth repeating. It’s all been done and dusted.

Maybe if Australia/NZ had a regional sPvP server it might be worth playing too, high latency can be overcome in WvW/PvE to some degree but that split second is a killer in sPvP. I doubt that there is enough revenue coming from OCX for that to happen though.

No. I already play WvW and I have tons of badges I don’t need.
sPvP in GW2 is nowhere near the level of GW1’s PvP.
