I have all these town clothes tonics from way back when you made the switch, and I never did really understand why these didnt just become outfits.

Please, can we please have these as outfits at some point in the future? They would be amazing to just wear as outfits for our armor.

Thanks if you actually read this and respond!!

I’ve only been playing since October, and I literally just found out about these today. While you can buy them on the TP for cheap, they’re considered costumes now and you can’t dye them. Anet, please make them outfits we can dye.

They might not be as flashy as a lot of outfits, but they’re nice, and obviously a lot of work went into them since they’re unique by race. Seems like a shame to just leave them as tonics, where they’re temporary, unusable in combat, and cannot be dyed.

I’d love for them to be made into outfits as well, although if it’s not physically possible to do that then perhaps maybe create a new casual outfit that works the same way the wedding attire outfit does.

I would like to see this, too.

Dyeable outfits are probably a lot more work than simple tonics. My guess is that someone said, “hey, let’s make these tonics so we can get the wardrobe out on time and come back later to turn them into outfits” and then “later” never happened.

At this date, these seem like obvious options for in-game acquisition outfits, via laurels perhaps. In theory, these should be less work to turn into outfits than any new designs. (In practice, who knows.)

If they do finally give us back our town clothes, now in outfit form, they’d better not make us spend resources on them. Granted, they did give enormous gem refunds to those who had bought the town clothes, so they might feel it’s fair to now make us pay to recover what we had. But it really will seem cheap of them if they do. Especially the starter cultural clothes that we once all had immediately upon character creation — those at the very least should be free to everyone. Especially since they still won’t be mix and match, and we won’t have as much dye control (still will be immensely better than the useless drab tonics even if they do give us clothes combos we would not have chosen ourselves).

However, since this request has arisen in many a thread for years, ever since the Wardrobe came out and we discovered the loss of our town clothes, I don’t expect them ever to act on it. If they do, I’ll be happy (if they don’t find some way to make it worse), but expectation? I refuse to have any in this matter.

Agreed, the town clothes tonics should have been, and should be made into an outfit.

I agree. I never understood why they became tonics in the first place. I’d love to see them as outfits.

As I’ve said before I also think giving everyone a free starter outfit could actually encourage more sales. At the moment you can completely ignore the outfits tab unless you’ve already decided to buy one. This way people would have one to use right away, which gives them a reason to go to the tab (to switch to it) and increases the probability that they’ll look at the others and decide to buy one or more.

I can’t see how making them dyable could be an issue, because they were already dyable when they were town clothes. So the dye channels are already there, and they’re clearly able to maintain those when combining the separate pieces into one outfit because they did it with the gem store town clothes.

Please I’d really like these as outfits. I was really bummed when they were added in as the tonics which I still see as stupid and pointless.

As tonics, they don’t even have Costume Brawl skills! What the heck is with that?

Maybe you’re right about that particular detail, but the general point remains: the original town clothes were city-only, so something had to be changed to make them available as outfits in combat — lots of animations, adjustments to dye channels, whatever.

So I still like my imagined scenario: they considered it, decided to postpone it to get the wardrobe out sooner, and (like many similar decisions), never found the time (or perhaps never remembered) to follow-up.

City-only? I used to wear them out in the field all the time. With conjured weapons, I could even fight weak enemies in them, although my armor would automatically reappear as soon as I took damage. Couldn’t do a whole lot that way, but Mad King Thorn wielding a fiery greatsword used to be an unusual site back in the day.

Most of the barriers were mechanical limitations of town clothing, in that they disabled your skills and would turn themselves off when you took damage. There’s no animation difference, to my knowledge.

The Common Clothing outfit would be perfect as the ‘started’ outfit.

It should be reworked as an outfit players get for free the first time a character of the account reaches level 17, when the wardrobe is introduced, or upon login if the current character is already over level 17.

It’s the perfect ouftit for it as it’s different for each race, but it isn’t too fancy, so players won’t stick just with it, and once introduced into the system, they’ll be more likely to buy more.

all town clothes tonics should be released as outfits, maybe even free outfits, since I don’t think anyone actually uses the tonics now…

I don’t think anybody has EVER used the tonics more than once, with that once being “WTF is this kitten?”

I’ll confess I used the hoodie one for a bit in RP since before Wardrobe I had my grunt Guardian wearing that with trousers for his IC clothes. But having to reapply it every 15 minutes (with a confetti burst each time), and not having it in his preferred pale blue — plus dealing with the darn jodhpurs and riding boots attached to it — quickly ended that for me.

I agree, the Town clothing should be unified into the outfit system.
Oh, and ANet, just while you’re at the topic… dyes should be saved per outfit, not per character.

Will always say yes to this. Have been for over a year: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Tonics-to-Outfits-It-s-time/

The dye channels were there, and there’s a good 17 tonics that need converting.

Many alts; handle it!
