So I know they can make quads up to 35 people but is this pvp only? Like lets say i wanted to pull 35 people into a party for clockwork chaos, is that doable? Not sure how this works and I’d hate to waste 100 gold on something I’m not sure I want.

Squads are both PvE & WvW. Up to 30 players.

I’ve read that before but are squads essentially like a raid group? or are they more like an arena team, where people are still in it even if they’re offline.

I think it’s 25 people and making a squad only makes a separate chat channel I think. I am a commander but never really used one after trying once on my first day and seeing no one joined the squad channel. I guess very few people use this part of the feature because there is LITTLE information out there about it.

I would say it would be worth getting your commander icon if you do plan to do things with the community with it. You just may need to be vocal about the squad part of it tho and play around with it.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

You wont see 30 names on the side of your screen as in a party I’m sure of that, you might see the 30 dots on the map however I really can’t remember.

You don’t see the dots of people in your squad, just those of people in your party. It’s basically JUST a channel with a bit of added functionality that lets you put up some special waypoints.

So, you know how a party adds to the damage caused by a target for possible loot? Well, so then if its just a channel then anyone in your squad won’t add to that loot damage I’m assuming then right? The purpose I was looking for would be to like kill champion and not have to worry as much about doing that certain % in order to get loot… but what your saying makes it look like its just a glorified chat channel where someone can mark stuff on a map… If thats true then it seems like a waste of 100g.

Ah so you want to get 30 ppl in a squad then sit back and have them do all the killing for you while you afk? Nope that wont work.

obviously i have to hit something, the point is, sometimes theres way to many people at one point and the champion goes down so quick i cant get that % in to get loot, hence why its good in the first place to be in a party, you have a better % change of getting it, 30 people would be better, im not looking to sit around and let everyone kill stuff, i know I wouldnt get anything… but for the times when mobs health drops too fast, its good to have

It kinda is a waste indeed. But then again the price is just there to make sure not everyone puts up a tag. Imagine seeing your whole map painted blue because every single player is a commander :p

Anyway, people in your squad don’t add to “loot damage” like people in your party.

Not true.

You are suffering from a dose of confirmation bias.

Being in a party and not being in a party does not change how much loot you get or the threshold for ‘tagging’.

Hey I never said it does. There has been talk of people leeching while in parties during these invasions on these forums over the past week tho so I guess I got that info from there. I never tried it so I guess I don’t have exp from it.

Having said that I have never needed to be in a party to hit these champs and get credit for them as I do plenty of damage unless I turn up at the very last second. I am far from a berserker build too all my gear is Power/Vit/Toughness and my build also does not favour damage. So I really don’t see how people are having problems here unless they are very under levelled for the zone and only doing “glancing” damage.

IMO you should be able to see squad dots, OR have the option to see GUILD members on the map. (Orange dots, like with names.) Would be nice. On GW1, we saw everyone. I just want to see guildies!

During these invasions, is there any benefit to being in a party other than seeing where other people were located?

The most functionality you get from the tag is in WvWvW as it lets you see how much supply the people in your squad have so you know if they need to resupply or not..

you get 2 things for a squad

1. chat channel
2. /squadinfo — commander gets a list of whos in the squad and how much supply they have

nothing else.
the system is pretty useless as is.
