New events in the HoT maps. A new area is a new area…didn’t say a map. It’s new, it wasn’t there before, it has a function; it’s a new area, whether it is appreciated or not…still content. Something new added to the game.

I don’t do structured PvP, but I don’t deny the Devs have added new features/content for that mode of the game. I’m sure it pleases some players.

Everyone doesn’t have to agree, but it doesn’t make it any less factual.

Noting new added to PvP, unless you call a rebalance of classes as new content. But if you think that is worth shouting about and saying it was great, go for it.

Stronghold says hi.

This summer patch is either going to retain players or start to lose a lot.

As far as I’m concerned, this next update is a make or break point for GW2. If they want to retain the core population keeping the game popular, we need to see a real commitment and shift in priorities.

Groan… Why do people keep making such statements? I see them all over and they are never true. All games lose players over time no matter what content they provide.

I have been seeing statements like this for the longest time and GW2 keeps going strong. Statements like these have no factual backing to support them because again, GW2 is still going strong despite the content drought and patches that are more repair than anything else.

It isn’t anything personal against you two, but I roll my eyes at these comments every time I see one.

On topic, I thought the Q2 Update was pretty run of the mill. I wasn’t excited and I wasn’t disappointed.

On communication, the first few years communication was very open and almost everything was laid on the table. So much so IMO that people over hyped and over expected. When the content came out they had built it up so much that when it came out it was great content yet people were complaining left and right because that had built it up to be much more than it was supposed to be. We got what they said they would give, and it was never good enough. (Except for a few things like legendaries, etc.)

I think the communication should be kept at a minimum to avoid over expectation. That way we are happy with what we get.

People say things like this because there are less people playing. I’ve noticed far less players on maps compared to a few.months ago, sure some will be people who have got what they wanted, but not to the point where Meta’s are failing when they where not a month or so ago. This summer patch needs to be heavy on the content side. If it is not, it will most likely not have the draw or retention of players ANet needs.

I have seen a drop off of players every summer so not a shock.

Again, as I said, all games lose players over their life. That includes GW2. Just because you or other players in particular lose interest or don’t like the content, does not ring the death knell for the game.

Nor can the people making those statements back them up with fact other than saying, “I see less players.” or “I know tons of players who have quit.” So what? The kinds of predictions made above are baseless and obtuse.

No one said the game was dead if the summer patch was content light. Not a one. All I said was that ANet need to bring the player numbers back up. More players = more people likely to buy gems = more income for ANet. But if this patch is content light, there will be scepticism towards future patches. After 9 months of nothing “new” added out side of raids, ANet need to deliver something for player retention alone.

Not exactly true or false. Did you even read the quotes on the first reply you gave me? One claims they are going to lose players the other says it is the make or break point. And make or break point is a pretty close prediction of death IMO.

And THAT is what you commented on my first post. You backed them up, I responded. Yet again, what you are ignoring, is the fact that none of you actually know how many people they gain or lose when they do anything.

As far as ‘content light’, that is subjective. Some people thought HoT and the Q2 Update were chock full of content and love. Some, like apparently you, thought it was not. I am somewhere in the middle on both. Again, subjective.

No matter what they deliver for ‘player retention’ you will have those who will complain that it is not enough and those that will claim it wasn’t enough and players will be dropping like flies. I put no stake in people like you who make claims about what ‘has to happen’ in order retain player base.

Hope so, the expansion was based almost entirely on player feedback and metrics and it turned out mediocre to terrible in pretty much every area.

Nice to see you have blind faith that everything is fine and there is nothing to worry about, I too put no stake in players like you who think everything is fine and there is nothing to see here.

HoT at launch was not friendly towards players who didn’t not have 2 hours to spend on one map, it is a lot better now, but the maps being on timers was a bad move Imo. Silver waste was better in being player driven. But it is what it is. The spring patch did a lot of fixing what HoT broke. I just hope summer is not more of the same.

I said that people who claim doom and gloom or declining sales or leaving players or anything else do not have any evidence of such. That includes me and you and anyone else not in ANets accounting department. Something that you keep ignoring. Not once did I say things would be fine. I did say that I keep hearing these predictions of downfall and they don’t happen so I don’t bother with them, but not that ‘things will be fine.’ So don’t turn this on me because you don’t have facts to back up your claims.

You clearly state that the game is doing just fine despite a lack of content and seem to think that failing to deliver a huge injection of new playable material won’t have a significant impact on the game.

If that’s not thinking everything’s going to be “fine” then you probably need to define what the word fine means to you in this context.

By your logic the only way Anet could screw up is to make the game less fun to play. Simply failing to improve it’s current state and forcing players to wait months for another go at it would have limited to no negative repercussions.

Hmmm let’s see the company is over 10 years old? In all that time has ANet given out lots of information on what is coming up? Nope. Every time they give out some things they are working on that are possibilities and then it doesn’t work out people read them the riot act and they go back to almost no information. Honestly I don’t blame them to give almost no information with the reception they get from some people.

Not according to this article ([E3 2016] Guild Wars 2 Season 3: which interestingly, is back up). There was a thread where this was discussed, and someone (Ayrilana.1396) translated that page.

The game, as you probably already know who follows development post-launch, is divided into seasons. The Season 3, scheduled for the coming months, probably by the end of the summer, provides a lot of irons in the fire and the introduction of new content both in PvE you in PvP.

I have no idea when LS Season 3 will drop, or when the Summer Update will be released, but doesn’t ‘by the end of Summer’ mean any time before the end of summer, not necessarily at or after the end of summer.

And, even though it’s not technically correct, don’t most consider summer (in the Northern Hemisphere) to be June, July, August, so it would release by the end of August? If so, probably would not be 3 months, but less than 2 months.

Regardless, features/content/updates will come when they come.

kitten , I usually consider end of July to be end of summer in terms of updates, so I was hoping we would get a patch soon. I hope they didn’t mean end of August.

Who knows, I personally think they’ll hold onto to it to compete with the release of Legion, which will be August 30th and what I take to mean the end of summer (kids heading back to school and all in my area). October to August with no LS is a long time.

Some people will wait for that content, and that’s fine if they’re okay with that. Others won’t.

You’re either splitting some mighty thin hairs here or performing some four dimensional logic gymnastics if you think those are two different opinions.

It is going strong. Their financial numbers are still up although not as strong as when it first came out but still up there but that is to be expected. It is going strong despite 4 years of people saying “this is make or break for the game”.

Where I am arguing that I did not say it was fine is in content and what they are doing to keep players. While the game is going strong itself in terms of $$$, I do question some of the way they handle information and content.

You will never hear me make a “chicken little” statement saying “This is make or break” or “If they don’t do this or that players will be leaving in droves.” Four years of those inane statements and the game is still making a lot of money. So the game is going strong. The content and how they are dealing with keeping players interested is still up in the air for me.

Since it seems you are more interested in being right and winning an argument for doomsaying, there is your explanation spelled out. It isn’t splitting hairs or logical gymnastics, it is giving credit to people for intelligence and understanding where I obviously shouldn’t.

You will never hear me make a “chicken little” statement saying “This is make or break” or “If they don’t do this or that players will be leaving in droves.” Four years of those inane statements and the game is still making a lot of money. So the game is going strong.

This has largely been my perspective, too.
