Hi Guys,

will ANET continue to give no information about the upcoming updates and plans, or was this just a Q2-Hype system? I really loved the opened communication but i also saw the problems connected with.

Having no communication on the other hand makes it sad, because there is no more “OMG I WANT THIS” feeling it’s more like “Huh? Oh Update”.

Which kind of communication do you expect from ANET right now? And what do you expect for Q3?

I believe that they feel so good about what they are going to deliver, that hey can afford to be silent ant even a little smug about it.
So, I am so hyped about the future update, that if they’ll to impress me, I’ll be all out rage mode on forums. Just watch me.

It was clear that keeping most of Q2 under wraps as a surprise worked. Whilst I am not a fan of no hype, it was evident from the almost unanimous positive outpouring that day, their strategy worked. In some ways that has created its own hype and expectations, since the quality of what they dropped was greater than expected and was in line with what people wanted.

Judging by the silence of the last few weeks from the dev team, I’m guessing they’ve been hard at it with another fairly sizeable patch of surprises alongside LS3.

I very much doubt we will hear about most of what they will drop, but they will almost certainly be hyping the story. They did it with raids using blogs and emails and story has a far higher catchment, so it will bring people to the game – I expect to start hearing previews within the next week or 2.

With luck Q3 will be better and not just ANet fixing what HoT broke.

It was anything but forgettable. The Spring patch really did deliver what a lot of people had been asking for. But the fact that the affected content seemingly doesn’t interest you has no bearing on the quality of said update. If it had interested you, you would’ve remembered.

As far as I’m concerned, this next update is a make or break point for GW2. If they want to retain the core population keeping the game popular, we need to see a real commitment and shift in priorities.

Specifically, they have to prove there is a place in the GW2 PVE end game for more than just raiding – and it needs to blow us away. They need to prove that they are committed to the game we bought 3 years ago and that they aren’t just moving to the same tired model used by other MMOs (where raids provide the primary end user experience between expansions).

I’m okay with the lack of communication as long as they actually deliver on the quality – and quantity – promised when they explained the delay.

I remember them adding JP to the daily rotation: that was AWESOME for me.

I also remember a lot of balance issues keep going still, a bunch of OP Elite Specs keep decimating build diversity, lots of very obvious bugs are still annoying people, new content outside raids continues to be really scarce, armor pieces keep having the short stick when compared to outfits and glider skins, with buttcapes and trenchcoats still being top fashion despite the years. For some reason Asura and charr still use equipment that doesn’t fit them.

I remember Anet saying they will listen more to us and communicate more frequently, and in the Engie forum, Irenio saying they will explore the possibility of adding alternative functions to the FGyro to make it more relevant in PvE.

So yes, the Q2 update maybe was good. But it is clear it was nowhere close to be enough…

I have no doubt that if ANet finally got some content available again, they will fall back into old hype train behaviors.

For now they should just hide in shame for the amount of content we received since HoT release. And that is how the silence actually feels like to me…

I’m sorry to hear that your guild is suffering.

I personally feel that it’s a bad idea to log into a game on the hopes of what’s coming in the future… When I’ve done it in the past, I wound up miserable and resenting the game: a sure-fire way for me to quit forever.

Instead I take frequent breaks. It’s honestly a main reason why even though I started playing shortly after launch, I have as much AP(etc) as people who’ve only been playing for a year or less. The nice thing about GW2 is that because there’s no subscription, you can pick it up and put it down as you need.

Unfortunately that does create problems for guilds to have any type of static player base. A solution can be to make the guild’s focus be teaching and playing with new players – it can breathe new life into what might feel like a stale game.

Anyways, good luck to you and your guild. I hope Q3 (whenever it winds up launching) helps revitalize your guild.

As that post is 2 years old (and talks about CDIs [Chris Whiteside was still here]), I’m not sure how relevant it still is. Probably should use one of Mike’s more recent posts since he took over as Game Director, where he talks about releases and communicating about them.

I still prefer it over the hype -> delay -> disappointment in delay -> cancellation -> rage over cancellation -> hype cycle that often takes of the place of the hype -> delivery -> celebration and rage -> hype cycle that is supposed to happen with software hype.

(If I made a drinking game out of typing the word hype, I probably wouldn’t have made it through this post, lol)

Yup, there are more recent posts… but that was the first thing that came up in my google search, and it was recent enough for me. If others want to take the time to find the other more recent posts, more power to ’em. That one was still by Mike, and it is the same philosophy he stated when he took over as Game Director.

I am really hoping something legitimately good comes from the skill splits. I have been asking for them since before the game was released. They have a chance to make each area of the game have its own flavor whilst still retaining each skill having the same function. I know that initially they won’t jump into the deep end with this, but they have a real chance of offering players diversity of game play with this. I wish they’d just dive into the deep end with it. It could be something great.

Sadly, the legendary debacle has really tainted my view of this game. Multiple times they have said they were releasing them and they failed. It’s bad enough they were supposed to come in 2013 and not behind an expansion pack paywall, but to put it as a selling point for the x-pac and then drop it after the x-pac was out is just heinous. Customers deserve to be treated better.

I am cool with the lack of communication I guess. They can’t over promise and under deliver. Heck, is the Legendary Armor even in the game yet? Like, can I go get a full set of Legendary armor right now if I owned HoT? How many months has HoT been out?

Everything released in q2 was posted sporadically in the forum and reddit. And there were no real surprises to be had until you bury your head in the sand. People knew they were reworking map rewards in hot, people knew they were doing borderland changes, people knew ad infinium was being released, and people knew about the short bow. Only surprise I had was the lvl 80 booster, but I’m sure it might have been mentioned on reddit.
So what do we know that is coming in q3 update. New fractals are coming, infusions are being changed (a dev mentioned on reddit how it didn’t make q2 because it would delete old infusions). LS3 is coming. Legendary armor is coming.
Similarly how q2 theme was to make HoT more casual, q3 theme will probably be fractals and LS3.

I challenge you to find ANY dev post that specifically states as fact that anything related to legendaries was supposed to arrive in 2013. Do you mean precursor crafting? Pretty sure they said something along the lines of “if kitten doesnt happen and/or change, precursor crafting might be out by the end of the year.” And guess what? kitten DID happen and/or change and those plans changed along with them.

How are there people who still see statements of potential possibilities (“this may or may not happen at some point”) and somehow twist it so hard in their head it comes out as an inviolable Word Of God Fact (“this WILL happen by the end of the year”)?

I can’t even remember what was in the Q2 update, that’s how impressive it was, it was completely forgettable.

Seeing as I play all parts of the game, bar raids, I’ve not really noticed anything. Some loot changes in HoT that was about it. But if you think it was awesome, good for you. Sorry but fixing problems that HoT created it not content. It’s damage control.

My expectations for both information and content is nil at this stage. As such I’ve resigned myself to find other games to play until such time this gets resolved.
There was a giant hole left by the reworking of base functionality that took a lot of time away from designing new stuff and the expansion was the result. It was rushed out to a bleeding game with the thought it could hold everyone for at least a year or more. This failed and here we are again less than a year removed and the same anger has flared up, no information, no substantial PvE content, nothing but thin threads of rumors to cling to.

I’m spending my money elsewhere for now because frankly I’ve no interest to log in and play right now and I’ve got all the little trinkets I care to have.

New events in the HoT maps. A new area is a new area…didn’t say a map. It’s new, it wasn’t there before, it has a function; it’s a new area, whether it is appreciated or not…still content. Something new added to the game.

I don’t do structured PvP, but I don’t deny the Devs have added new features/content for that mode of the game. I’m sure it pleases some players.

Noting new added to PvP, unless you call a rebalance of classes as new content. But if you think that is worth shouting about and saying it was great, go for it.

And how is that doing? Ye exactly.

This summer patch is either going to retain players or start to lose a lot. They scrapped legendary weapons to work on this and if it’s the same crap like the HoT story that only takes an hour to do people will leave. The fact that nothing has been teased or mentioned is worrying.

If you’re going to split skills, give professions back their mechanics. Help balance thief so that it’s viable in sPvP, and nullify the insane amount of powercreep that has grown the past year.

How do you think I feel? I still wanted to play PvP after HoT and they pretty much destroyed any chance I had of doing that by gating the best builds behind elite specs and HoT’s paywall while at the same time saying they wanted to grow esports. The best way to grow esports would have been to balance elite specs in line with core specs so that f2p players, core players, and HoT owners were all on a level playing field. This is precisely why they are being quiet about info. The words they say didn’t match their actions with anything in the hype leading up to HoT.

I agree with you. Heck, I’d take it multiple steps further with the skill splits. I’d make it so different weapon sets were more viable in different formats. Take Elementalist as an example. In WvW, make staff really attractive. Tone it down for sPvP where 95% of the fighting happens in a tiny area and AoE can be really strong. You don’t want staff as strong in sPvP as you would in WvW where the size of the fight area is totally different. Make S/D, D/D, and focus really attractive in PvP or something. Elite specs can be tuned higher in HoT where they can be used by the people that bought them.

I’m not saying there isn’t a chance they implement this poorly, because there is. The type of build diversity I am talking about in the above paragraphs can be applied to all professions. Different weapon sets being strong in different formats would actually make me want to play all the different formats because of the build diversity. It’s supposed to be fun to have a lot of options. As someone who refuses to buy HoT because of the gross market speak and it just doesn’t look fun to me, I am kitten in PvP because of HoT and don’t play it. There are only a handful of core specs on very few classes that can barely tread water next to Elite Specs. That isn’t ArenaNet trying to grow esports with their actions. Their actions are only concerned with the amount of money they are pulling in at the expense of esports.

Where’s the a la carte, PvP only, elite spec purchases? I’d pay $5 each for a few of the elite specs in PvP. I ain’t spending $50 on an x-pac to use the elite specs in PvP when I have zero desire to play anything in HoT. The lack of a la carte elite spec purchases in PvP is a gross oversight on ArenaNet’s part and speaks to larger blind spots they have as a company.

It doesn’t matter how well it is doing. Please read the posts before commenting next time and bringing up something that isn’t even part of my post and the one I responded to. Thanks.

So, first of all, nothing any developer says anywhere about anything can be considered unassailable fact, because there’s always a disclaimer that things may change. But you have to admit that the statement that we’ll see new types of legendaries and legendary armor in 2013 is pretty kitten close to that.

So to then add them behind a paywall and then cancel them? You can argue semantics all you want; that’s skeevy af, to me.

Ayrilana, Stronghold was introduced with HoT, then disabled in December. It’s not new content. It’s another fix.

If stronghold was disabled, why is it that I was just playing it the other day? It was only temporarily disabled until they could fix an issue with stealth and minions or something like that.

Stronghold is a new PvP mode and map. That’s pretty much content.

Because it was fixed and enabled again in the Spring patch? But you’re touting it as something new, which it’s not.

Edit: It was actually enabled well before the Spring patch. My apologies. But the point remains the same: that it’s not actually relevant to this conversation.

Did Stronghold exist before HoT? No. Therefore it is new.

It is new as of HoT. It is NOT considered new content introduced in the Spring patch, which was your original premise.

Read my actual post. I was not talking about the spring patch. I never even referenced the spring patch.

Also, it was brought back within a week. I even remember playing in in S2 which was before the spring patch.

How is your post even relevant if you didn’t read what you were responding to? This thread is discussing quarterly updates to the game since HoT, so I really don’t understand why you would read one post and assume it meant that nothing new has ever been introduced in pvp.
