So lately we had some nice stuff added.Even more stuff is coming in next major patch. Im really excited about guild missions ,revamped dailies and such. Its nice to see that they are coming up with stuff outside new expansion…

BUT

Every stick has two ends.As much as i like new stuff beeing added to game i would much more prefer see current one beeing fixed. We still have number of gamebreaking problems which havent been fixed since launch.

We still have 0 class balance, number of classes are bugged badly making certain builds unplayble at all. Increasing number of perma-stuck events. Exploits in CM,Arah and etc. The list is long and painful

I prefer quality against quanity really. I would let all new stuff go for 1-2 months in exchange in actual major bug fixing on current content we have.

Im quality guy

How about you?

Why im even asking this? Well i think reason why they are focusing on new content is to keep players playing and maybe get old ones back but atleast for people like me fixing current stuff is way more appealing. Maybe if i not alone here they will turn their attention to major problems we have currently.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

I agree completely. There are some really annoying bugs that have been there since launch and they still are not fixed, despite them being REALLY annoying.

For example:
- Bug when trying to pick up an item while walking, prevents player from pciking it up and keep walking
- Gap closers not working on certain bosses, hitbox is messed up and gap closers keep casting for their full duration while not actually hitting the boss
- Hit boxes on several objects, like the Burrows in Ascalonian Catacombs. I miss my auto attacks while my greatsword really hits the object.
- Alot of dungeon and Fractals of the Mists bugs. (CoF p2: Magg bugged at the bomb running event. Poison cloud not dissappearing while using the fan in Uncategorised Fractal)

And not even mentioning the HORRIBLE drops as of late.

I’m pretty sure they have enough devs to work on problems and work on new content at the same time. I agree that I prefer quality over quantity, but in reality I’d prefer both.

There are two sides to this issue. One is that Anet really does need to keep the content locusts, and as such they need stuff to do. But they also do fix bugs. It’s just that some bugs are harder to fix and have higher priority than others.

The culling problem, for example, is a big thing they’re working on. And it’s important that they do work on it, because it’s got to be fixed. But it’s taking longer than they thought it would, as it is with just about all programming tasks.

I’ve seen many fixes to bugs they never listed, which I think it just silly. A couple of months ago, the ranger traits for opening shot was completely bugged. They fixed it, but never said anything. A couple of months ago, the mesmer insignia that gave you random boons every ten seconds wasn’t work. I reported the bug and they fixed it.

People think bugs aren’t being fixed, but all the personal story bugs I’ve seen are now fixed, and I’ve seen a few….I have a LOT of characters.

So yeah, I prefer quality over quantity, but don’t suffer from the illusion that every bug is being ignored. Bugs are being fixed by the team that fixes bugs. New content is designed by other teams.

Agreed. But there are some bugs that have been in the game since launch and that is just unacceptable in my opinion.

I’m sure the game came out six months early. I’ve been saying this forever. They had to beat MoP out, for obvious reasons. They couldn’t let MoP release first. So they did what they had to. And the game really wasn’t ready.

I know this. That’s why the game now, six months after launch is finally looking like it should have looked at launch. Guesting was a feature that was supposed to be in at launch. It never made it. Not because it wasn’t going to be in at launch, but Anet ran out of time.

Programs like MMOs are huge. They have tons of bugs. IMO ANet has been playing catch up since day one, and they didn’t count on the culling issue at all. It’s been a pretty wild ride for them. They’re not sitting sipping champagne and ignoring the bugs, I’m pretty sure.

And when new content comes out, new bugs get introduces as well. Some of those bugs are pretty timely.

Let me ask you this. If it’s not acceptable, show me an MMO that’s come out and six months later didn’t have as many problems as this one? Hell even games like Skyrim which isn’t an MMO has continual bugs pretty much forever.

This is the way the game industry is going. If you don’t manage your expectations, you’re gonna be way disappointed in the future of gaming.

You’re not the only one who thinks they just need to stop with the new content until they get their game fixed. This wasn’t even close to being ready for release, and it’s still got a partially-done feel and lacks a LOT of attention to detail that should have been in at release.

Quality is far better than quantity. There are many games out there to choose from (quantity). I want the good one (quality).

Sadly, this game is probably going to be set aside for a better quality one that may be released soon. Hopefully ArenaNet wake up and get some things done right, and with great care. Otherwise it’s never going to be the next super-MMO. Which is sad, because it could have been (and still could, but that hourglass is almost empty).

Step one: fix bugs and incomplete content.
Step two: when you DO release something, don’t break 3 other things (which seems to be the MO around here since launch).

Well, judging from this and many many other topics, all the player base active on the forums seems to agree on this. Bugged to hell, the official “beta” was more of an alpha and right now we seem to be in beta phase. Thing is…we can complain as long as we want.

Of course, something like Gw2 is not a small project. But they manage it wrong. Don’t throw money on new content and new features and produce more bugs, when there are still bugs that exist since the first beta event. And some of them won’t take longer than 2 minutes to fix. Priorities are kinda wrong.

ESO will be a very strong contender. Their only chance is to take their time, fix all the major bugs and come up with some innovative and well designed expansion.

HAHA Chuo, you don’t play many mmos do you. GW2 isn’t that buggy at all for a young mmo.

They are being slowly fixed, though it’d be nice if the bug fixing process was more advertised, sometimes a bug disappears and it’s not even documented, like the RTL and magnetic grasp fixes.

I don’t see where this balance complaint is coming from either, people just need to counter build, and anet are going to be adding a lot more counter builds if the SotG video is anything to go by.

Have you considered the fact that Anet is not one homogenized group of “game designers” all doing the same job? Or even all capable of doing all the different jobs involved in making this game.

Like most companies it’s made up of a lot of people with their own skills and specialisations. Pulling the artists and writers and marketing guys who are making the new content off of that and telling them to fix bugs wouldn’t achieve anything. They probably have no more idea of how to do it than most of us do. (I say most of us because I’m sure if I said “any of us” at least one person would tell me they’re a computer programmer.)

Do you think your job would get done faster if everyone else in the company was told to stop doing their jobs and come help you? Or would it waste a lot of your time trying to walk them through things they have no clue on when you could be getting on and actually getting something done?

On top of which as other people have said they need to do both. If they were 100% focused on fixing bugs and were refusing to add anything new until the game was 100% bug free this forum would be full of people complaining that it’s ridiculous that the game has been out for almost 6 months and they haven’t added anything.

Edit: Also like other people have said I’ve noticed a lot of bug fixes since launch. For example the Battle for Beetletun chain and the Swamp chain were both frozen on Desolation at launch. Recently I went back to Queensdale and not only found both working but even found people who had no idea they’d ever been broken.

At launch I also noticed a lot of small camera and text bugs which have been fixed and I don’t think they bothered to include them in the patch notes. (Before anyone asked I think they fix minor bugs like these and not some of the bigger ones because these are easy to fix, it probably took a programmer less than a minute.)

SWToR wasn’t as buggy. Didn’t that have to completely close a PvP area because it didn’t work at all? I guess you never played AoC or Warhammer at launch. Hell, did you try WoW at launch. That game was a mega disaster. For the first couple of weeks it was down more than it was up. And then there are games like Skyrim. Skyrim was amazingly buggy.

I’m a Guild Wars 2 fan, I’m sure you can tell by my posts, but I’m also a realist. I’ve played a lot of MMOs. The only game I remember launching that had less bugs than Guild Wars 2 was Rift, and the world was TINY compared to Guild Wars 2. There was far less content. It was a far less ambitious offering. And they had a self made security problem at launch that led to hacking far beyond what we’ve seen here on Guild Wars 2. Not to mention that Rift became buggier as it went on for the first six months.

I can’t tell you how many times they changed the skill tree completely during the first six months, causing me to have to completely respec, almost every time I logged in.

This is a buggy game, but it’s no where close to as buggy as other MMOs at launch. Many are all but unplayble.

So a few of you have disagreed with my statement, and I agree it’s a pretty general statement that can’t really be backed up by anything.

So how about this then? In the games I’ve played at launch (there have been 5 of them), all have been buggy to one degree or another, but none have had bugs that affected me so frequently as GW2.

I realize it’s a complex operation. Many large organizations are complex operations. That’s where good management skills come in.

Anyway, the point is, I’d rather them take more time on making existing content smoother, and put more care and attention to detail into their patches and expansions, than to just keep adding content that’s of the same quality we’ve seen so far.

Lots of frustrating content isn’t nearly as fun as a smaller amount of good, solid content.

True, but on the other hand it launched at time when there was much less competition and the playerbase had different expectations. If a game does not cut it today, it is much easier to go off and find an alternative.

Really? I am struggling to think of a game that had for example more bugged quests / evetns than GW2 had at launch, I am also struggling to think of a game that had more bugs / broken class skills / traits than GW2, perhaps more importantly I am struggling to think of a game that is slower to address those broken / bugged skills / traits than GW2.

You mention Rift, they would regularly put out 3 or 4 patches a week after a big update to fix fundamental things like skills not working properly, I have never played a game so slow to fix fundamental things like class skills / traits (and on top of that then manages to break them so often with “fixes”) as GW2.

It almost beggars belief that they put seemingly huge resources into fluff like events, whilst parts fo teh core gameplay like skills/traits/minion AI, etc remain broken for months.

Well, just to point out one statement of yours wherein Anet should get the game 100% bug-free, it’s really hard to do that, and that’s a fact. In fact, huge games like Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft and hell ,even any other game would have bugs, little or small.

If WoW or any other MMO stopped putting out content until they fixed all the release bugs then they would have never released more content. There are still bugs from release in every single MMO that I’ve played over the past decade+ and that’s quite a bit.

As a matter of fact…I’d venture to say that every single player game that I’ve played over the last decade+ still has bugs that were present at release. That’s just the nature of code people. Learn to adapt…it’s what separates us from the lesser animals.

Calling this game “buggy” is hilarious. Let’s take apart your list:

-We still have 0 class balance,
Let me guess: your own classes needs “some love” ? Or perhaps you need to practise ?

-number of classes are bugged badly making certain builds unplayble at all.
Finished four 80’s and had almost no bugs. Feel free to enlighten me on these bugs ?

- Increasing number of perma-stuck events.
There’s far less stuck events than at the game’s start, what’re you on about ?

-Exploits in CM,Arah and etc.
Nothing I’ve run across, are you sure you weren’t looking for them ? (which is a bannable offense BTW)

- The list is long and painful
No, it’s not, you have four items on it, and none of them makes much sense to me.

It almost beggars belief that they put seemingly huge resources into fluff like events, whilst parts fo teh core gameplay like skills/traits/minion AI, etc remain broken for months.

I did mention Rift. They changed stuff all the time. This isn’t indicative of fixing stuff. This is indicative of changing stuff. You really think that Rift was balanced? Really? Okay then.

So every day I log in and I have to reset my cleric and my rogue and my mage because they couldn’t get the skills right. Almost every day. Sure I got a free point reset, but that wasn’t the point. Why did the skills change all the time? Skills deleted. Skills added. Skills moved from one point in the tree to another.

In fact, every single day, at around the same time, they went down for a patch, five, six, seven times a week. So they made changes.

And two months after launch with all the changes there were MORE bugs in Rift than at launch. Not less. Do you remember Rift’s first big event. How half the people got stuck in queues and couldn’t get in. And that was on the servers the event actually worked on.

Do you remember the launch bug that allowed people to get passwords directly from the database, until a fan figured out why so many accounts were stolen?

Rift had a relatively good launch but it was my no means even close to bug free. Many of the skills didn’t work right or as advertised and quite a few of the quests had stupid bugs in them too. Not to mention the number of dynamic events that were bugged and sat there, because they couldn’t be finished, until they finally despawned.

And Rift was a modest game compared to this. 500 quests to GW 2’s 1500 dynamic events, without no personal story or mass big battle PvP to worry about.

I guess you weren’t there for Warhammer or AoC’s launch. Or Aion. Disasters all. So many bugs. Warhammer was almost unplayable. Want to talk about balance issues. All the games had them. Rift had them too, why do you think they had to keep changing the skills.

Even months after launch they were doing it. Did it make the professions more balanced? It gave me the feeling they hadn’t a clue what they were doing. They’d announce some change to PvP and then revert it, because it wasn’t going to work after the fans told them it wasn’t going to work.

Look at ANY MMO forum six months out, try SWToRs, or probably even WoW’s and see what people were saying on those forums. They look pretty much like these forums.

No, it’s not, you have four items on it, and none of them makes much sense to me.

- Some classes only have 1 or 2 builds with weapon sets that fit with them in PvE.

- I agree, haven’t come across any game breaking class bugs.

- There are tons of exploits in dungeons/fractals, but I won’t go into detail on those. Especially CM has a few and Fractals aswell.

- The list sure is long.

But I agree and disagree. Sure, this game has just been released for 6 months. So what? They gave us a patch that fixed a couple of things the 28th of january and the next patch will be the end of february. I would expect a patch every week to fix issues in this stage of the game.

You have every right to insist on quality and every right to complain. However, I don’t agree with your assessment that it all comes down to “sloppy work” but again, it’s your right to think such things.

Honestly though…if you learn to adapt you’ll end up being a better person for it. Either way, your unwillingness to do so will not stop me from moving forward.

Also, the handling with the community. They seem to have plenty of time to post fanart pictures on Facebook or boast about upcoming content. When it comes to talking to the community about a little heads up or talking about what’s maybe wrong at the moment and what not…they lack a lot.

So that’s one dungeon path out of three explorable paths, for one profession. That’s your example. And it means you’ll have one clone less some of the time. I see. This is just terrible. I mean, how could Anet have possible missed on mechanic off one fight, in one dungeon for one profession and not gotten around to fixing it. I mean, your mesmer is probably completely unplayable in that dungeon because of this. You probably haven’t even finished the dungeon. /sarcasm

Not only doesn’t this problem affect all professions, it doesn’t even affect all mesmers. It affects only mesmers that use that particular trait line in that particular part of that particular dungeon path. I’m pretty sure the things that have Anet going on things like culling issues that they didn’t expect, and bugged personal stories that prevent progress. As annoying as that is, and I’m sure it is, it’s hardly game-breaking and a terrible example.

The thing is: I care about the game. Played Gw1 from day 1 until the first beta of Gw2. But, if more bugs keep piling up than bugs that are being fixed, more and more people will tend to move on to more enjoyable things. It’s just that they need to go back to the higher quality work they delivered with Gw1.

And I didn’t say that everything comes down to sloppy work. But not having automated tests for stuff like the achievements, which is pretty much slapping the developer in the face and screaming for tests, yes, I call that sloppy work.
We: customers. They: should be the ones adapting. The only thing we can adapt to is to live with the bugs and other stuff. But if it keeps piling up…
So, maybe if ANet adapts, they’ll end up being a better company, to use your phrasing.

I would adapt if it wasn’t for bugs that existed since day 1 and bugs that are just plain stupid and could have been detected by automated testing (see achievement bug). That’s sloppy work.

You can still adapt…don’t let the bugs stop you from doing so.

Report the bugs. Wait for a fix. If said fix doesn’t come in what you feel is an acceptable time frame and it makes the game unplayable for you then move on to something that might be more enjoyable. Adapt.

However, insisting (not saying you are personally) that all bugs be fixed before new content is release is not adapting…it’s being unreasonable.

Since day 1, the “clone on dodge” trait for the mesmer stopped working when you got transformed into ghosts in the Ascalonian Catacombs. It was fixed with the last patch. That’s several months for a bug that kills the core mechanics of a class in AC.

I’m not insisting that all bugs be fixed before new content. What I insist on however, is that mechanic breaking bugs and alike are going to be fixed. And what I insist on is better testing.

That was one example and I didn’t call it game breaking, but mechanic breaking. If you pick up on personal stories being bugged, there are still some personal stories that are bugged since day 1. There’s just a plethora of stuff that is broken since release (and prior). But hey, look, we have some crabs running around on an useless island. That’s what I meant by priorities. The quality in that aspect is lacking.

Can we please ignore the hyperbolic claims that this was “buggiest game evarerest” maybe?

It’s pointless to argue against it and it wastes time. The bugs in this game are NOT all that massive. There are a few which naturally draw a large amount of people to and yet existed for quite a long time. But again, there have been instances of things being broken for a LOT longer in other games.

Irony…. xD

IS not about the game being the buggest ever…IS more about the same bugs continue to be there since release and have got worse sometimes and everytime something is modified something new comes up, everytime something is added some stuff change for worse…like if it was somekind of private server, stop trying to be a fancat and accept it, no MMO game that i remember has ever had the same bugs since release.

The good thing the bugs arent that big atleast (?) and others seem to not gonna ever change, impossible to them for fix or will take years (?)

Unfortunately the phrase “We fixed one thousand five hundred and seventy five bugs” is not going to bring new player.
However “We add new content every month” is more appealing, even if all possible new players stop playing right away after encounter that everything is bugged.
That and those fanboys encouraging Anet for every single useless change like the mindless grinding or senseless storylines or those who bash every single post where someone don’t praise Anet and instead, point the problems in this game.

Normally wouldnt even bother answering but since your manner is so offensice i will.

1. No , im maining ranger and i cant see myself on downside in pvp . Doing pretty well. Thou i pitty necros and warriors. In addition i would like to see thief and mesmer put to their right place in line with another classes not beyond them. 50% of spvp population are thiefs and mesmers for ‘some’ reason.

2. DO you really need a list of bugged skills/traits etc etc? do you srsly? cause u must be joking here

3. I started playing 2-3 months ago and i’ve seen way less of stucked events than i do now. So its really not following improvement path , do it?

4. Searching? i dont know how ppl find these gaps in map design but yes im aware of them. And i dont enjoy them beeing there at all.

GuildWars 2 is good game with bad management.

No I don’t think Rift was balanced, but on the other hand it has way, way more skills and combinations of skills so is much harder to balance, regardless of which it is irrelevant to the point, which was bugs / broken skills etc.

And two months after launch with all the changes there were MORE bugs in Rift than at launch. Not less. Do you remember Rift’s first big event. How half the people got stuck in queues and couldn’t get in. And that was on the servers the event actually worked on.

Yet is still launched with less bugs than GW2 and when you consider how many more skills there are in Rift, that just makes GW2 look even worse. Then when you compare three or four months into Rift and how many of the class skill bugs had been fixed to the pages and pages of bugs / broken skills / traits in GW2 after teh same time, well…

As for the event, you mean it was about as useless as the cursed shore event.

I guess you weren’t there for Warhammer or AoC’s launch. Or Aion.

No, though I do seem to remember people telling me Warhammer was terribly buggy and that this was in part the reason it lost population so quick, the last two MMORPGs I was there at launch for were Rift & LOTRO, both were better than GW2 in terms of bugs / broken stuff.

Look at ANY MMO forum six months out, try SWToRs, or probably even WoW’s and see what people were saying on those forums. They look pretty much like these forums.

To a certain extent I agree (LOTRO excepted), but than this just shows why many programmers, project managers, etc view the games industry in a poor light, people would be fired / taken to court in other fields, if they released software in the state many games companies do.

I’d also add Anet made a rod for their own back, by saying they would not make the mistakes other companies had and that it would be released “when it’s ready”, then doing precisely what other companies had done and released a buggy / incomplete product.

This would of been less of an issue if they were actually quick to fix things, but they are not, they have been slower than any other game I’ve played, six months in and my engineer and necro are still full of bugs, there are still numerous DE bugged out, WvW is still full of exploits and orbs are still missing becasue of their inability to sort it, they’ve managed to introduce numerous bugs through trying to fix / add stuff (e.g – Asura engineers rubberband when they use elixir S since they changed FOV, nothing seems to be done about this) and so on.

Their lack of speed is especially annoying on what are virtually game breaking bugs, for example they were told time and again about the guardian block bug in sPvP, it took weeks, and weeks for them to get round to a fix, yet it had an absolutely huge impact on playing sPvP.

Yet they throw resources at fluff like events, it boggles the mind…

what class isn’t balanced?

All of them.

If they were ‘balanced’ 5 of any class ought to be able to complete the same content in approx the same amount of time (give or take say 20%).

Class balance is actually in a good place.
Necro, Engi and Ranger need some buffs and D/D Ele needs a nerf, but that’s about it.

Wait, isn’t that why they aren’t adding any more new zones/dungeons and building upon the core game instead? What major bugs are you running in to? They fixed a decent amount of class bugs (for my guardian at least) within the last patch, as well as various event and story mission bugs. Not to mention getting rid of some dungeon exploits. I know nothing about class balance as I just play whatever is fun for me, so I can’t comment on that.

Hello,

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/NEW-Elementalist-bugs-and-glitches-thread/first

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/Engineer-Bugs-Compilation-1/first

feel free to read those 2 threads and you will see, even fixing all the engineer and elementalist bugs would be more than enough for 1 patch. Besides that there are still a lot of major bugs like character rendering in WvW/Dragon fights or the “famous” sound bug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbdEc1sldQ8).

Anet already fixed a lot of profession bugs (like you said the guardian is one example) but there are still many more.

When it comes to balancing Anet did a mediocre job. Some professions seem to be balanced while others are not. The elementalist is a pretty good example. The D/D bunker build is really strong right now while other builds are weak. For me however it does not really matter because I am also playing for fun which means whatever I feel like. I do know a lot of friends though who complain about the imbalance.

I agree with the sentiment but, as much as I love the game, GW1 is hardly a better example of quality control. Go on the GW1 wiki and pretty much every article of substance has multiple bug notes on it. This is just SOP at Anet. The only gameplay feature they seem to have kept from GW1 is the prevalence of bugs.

Way way more skills in Rift? Are you sure about that? Because I’m not so sure, there are a lot of skills in Guild Wars 2, unless Rift has more skills than Guild Wars 1: Prophecies (Guild Wars 2 has more than Proph) I don’t think Rift has more than Guild Wars 2. Just saying here.
