Maybe I’m just really being unlucky but since I passed level 20 or so I received not a single piece of worthy upgrades for my gear. I started buying my gear from the TP instead. Now that I’m level 70 I’m still in the same boat, every 10 to 15 levels I’m forced to buy new gear because its lacking so badly that killing more than 1 mob becomes troublesome or simply takes too long. Every piece of gear I have is at least 10 levels behind and whatever drops, is still worse than what I have, even if its 10 levels behind.

Storyline has not been kind either. After some cool tough quest which took quite some time too I figured the reward much be nice too right? I was eager. Guess what I got? GATHERING TOOLS! C’mon guys, are you kidding me?!

I think this is crap, sorry. I know I can craft, I can buy, and stuff drop in dungeons. I know all that, that is not the point. Crafting should not be mandatory for my upgrades and dungeons should not be mandatory to farm for gear during leveling. Nice to do once or twice, for sure and upgrades are nice if they drop, but they certainly don’t drop complete sets.

There is a sense of satisfaction, coolness, to get a nice upgrade every once in a while. To be able to upgrade old stuff is nice. Having to buy it doesn’t give the same feeling, it’s not as rewarding. And it doesn’t have to be rare either, just a nice green or blue would suffice, as long as it gets me through the game. I don’t believe drops from quests should be the best stuff at all, like I said, just good enough to get you through the game that’s all.

Right now I don’t even have the gold to buy new stuff. So I’m left to struggle and muddle, die because I accidently overpull or die because mobs respawn on me while I’m not finished with the one I’m killing.

the only good rewards I’ve found in any area of the game is map completion of the higher level zones. gives you a couple exotic pieces that sell up to a gold each.

I too have found this to be quite good for making money, granted map completion takes some time but the rewards for high level zones are decent.

The quest rewards are exactly the level of the quest. If you do the quests right when you’re of the level, it’ll work out fine. Actually the hat from CM-story is 45, so you may actually have to wait to equip what you get.

As far as the other stuff — I’ve recently become a believer in magic find. I equipped 4 Noble runes on an alt, and he started getting yellow and green drops. Still not guaranteed to be useful, but it raised overall what I had to choose from.

Finally, if you’re one who wants up-to-date gear as you level, you can get gear from the TP that costs just a few coppers more than you’ll get to sell it back. Consider it very cheap rent. In many cases, if you’re able to salvage the sigil/rune, you come out ahead on cost.

Make another armor set for Magic find and use it for farming it’s pretty dam good once you have it around 100%. You can also buy Omnomberry Bars and the cash shop item.

Just wish rewards for map completion were tuned to your class. Its just not all that much fun getting something you have to sell. They might as well just give you the coin, since I’ve never received anything from any map completion that I was able to use and I’ve completed every zone I’ve leveled in. Just vendor or TP trash. Why are story rewards tied to your class, but map rewards aren’t? Makes no sense. The code is there. It takes no real effort to tune it. Since almost every MMO since 2004 has tuned rewards to your character, it doesn’t make sense why ANet would do something that adds NOTHING to the fun of “winning”. Yeah, more gold…big whoop really.

Why don’t you buy new gear with Karma? Its very easy to stay up to date with at least greens by purchasing them from heart vendors.

Probably because most people want to save their Karma for when they hit 80, instead of “wasting” it on items you can buy on the TP for next to nothing.

Exactly.

But because I need 15 chars here’s a useless sentence.

Yeah, I pretty much only spend karma on Blue armor that I like the skin of. Can get Greens, and with the stats you want, for a silver or two right up to level 80.
