Is there any reason for this than other to be annoying. I’ve been doing all the events on an alt then I’ve just realised the tickets are soulbound and not account bound :-( my low level alt has no chance on the gauntlet.

This one mystifies me too. They were originally account bound and Anet changed it. I have no idea why, but I don’t think it was a good move on their part.

They changed it because people abused the ones you got in the mail on each character, as usual.

The only way to abuse this is if Anet forgot to make new characters ineligible.

It was simply abused by creating new characters, transferring the tickets, deleting the character and repeat as far as I understand it.

And making it impossible for new characters to get them wouldn’t really work either, since that would punish new players.

In theory you are correct about new players, but in practise new players won’t be able to complete the challenges anyway and getting tickets isn’t that hard.

It is fully possible to complete at least some fight in the Gauntlet while being upscaled.
